✨Resilience & Stress Training at Hurlston Hall Sport & Leisure✨

This week I had the pleasure of delivering a resilience to stress session with the amazing team at Hall Sport & Leisure

We talked about:
🔹 How to turn stress into clarity - moving from feeling overwhelmed to focused.
🔹 How to recognise stress in others - and offer support in meaningful ways.
🔹 The 4 Pillars of Psychological Safety, (from Timothy R. Clark), which help teams feel safe, connected and empowered:

1️⃣ Inclusion Safety - Feeling accepted and safe to be yourself
2️⃣ Learner Safety - Feeling safe to make mistakes and talk about them
3️⃣ Contributor Safety - Feeling valued when sharing ideas
4️⃣ Challenger Safety - Feeling safe to speak up and ask questions

💬 And the reflections from the team were brilliant:

“I’ll focus more on action instead of just concerns”
“Spend more time outside with my team”
“I’ve learned more about the stress others face - and how I can support them”
“I need to take more breaks for myself”
“Be more present – at work and at home”

Stress is part of life – but with the right tools, mindset, and support, we can build real resilience. 💡

💭 What helps YOU stay resilient when life gets a bit much?

⚠️ Burnout isn’t slowing down -it’s being ignored.

According to Mental Health UK’s 2025 report, 91% of UK adults said they experienced high or extreme stress in the past year.

That’s 9 in 10 people -the same as 2024.

Even more worrying, those who feel this level of pressure all the time has risen from 5% to 7%.

When I deliver mental health training, I often ask:

“Who here takes proper breaks or stops for lunch?”

❌ Most people say they don’t. They work straight through, every day.

Here’s the reality:

Burnout is like a plug socket. Keep overloading it without pause and eventually - it blows a fuse.

We’re no different. Constant stress with no reset leads to exhaustion, anxiety, and reduced focus.

Quick Tip:

Block out just 5 minutes in your diary to step away, breathe, and switch off.

Micro-breaks help prevent overwhelm and support better productivity.

💬 What’s one thing you do to manage stress or avoid burnout?
Let’s share practical tips that actually work 👇

Discover the Fascinating History Behind CPR Training!

Earlier this month, while delivering an EFAW course, I shared a captivating story about "Little Annie," our CPR manikin. Did you know she's based on a mysterious, unidentified young woman from Paris circa 1885, whose serene face became an iconic piece of art?

This story underlines the importance of learning CPR – a skill that could make you the most crucial person in someone's life. So, let's remember: CPR stands for Cardio (heart), Pulmonary (lungs), and Resuscitation. By learning it, you could potentially save a life.
