The lovely weather we've been enjoying recently has brought along an unwelcome companion - bugs. From greenflies and mosquitoes to ticks and wasps, these little creatures can put a damper on our time outdoors.
While some lucky people seem to get bitten less, others can feel like walking bug magnets - and may even experience strong reactions to bites and stings. My recent trip to Scotland proved that I am not invincible to the bites too...
Here are a few homeopathic remedies that can be really helpful for insect bites and stings:
Apis - The No. 1 remedy for stings.
The affected area will likely be red, swollen, shiny, and stretched - often with a burning or stinging pain. There may be edema, and in some cases, swelling can spread (e.g. if stung on the head, the tongue might swell).
Better for cold applications
Worse from heat and warmth
Ledum - Excellent for puncture wounds, including insect bites and tick bites.
The area may feel cold and puffy, and appear purple or red. Ledum is especially helpful right after a tick bite.
Better for cold applications
Worse from heat, touch, and movement
Urtica urens - For stinging, burning, itchy rashes or hives.
Pain can feel biting, stinging, or burning, and may radiate into the joints. A go-to remedy for hives and prickly heat.
Better from rubbing
Worse from heat, exercise, and at night
Staphysagria - When bites are unusually painful or the skin is very sensitive to touch.
This remedy can also be helpful for people who tend to attract insect bites more than others. The pain may be cramping or tearing in nature.
Better from warmth
Worse from touch
It is always the best to consult a professional homeopath before administering any homeopathic remedies.
