Bereavement Cookery Club – Week 3 Update 🫛🍟

Week 3 was a big hit as our group took on a classic British favourite, fish and chips, all made from scratch!

This week, participants learned how to prepare and cook, battered haddock, triple-cooked chips, mushy peas and to top it off they made homemade tartare sauce.

It was a fantastic session filled with new skills and confidence-building.

A huge thank you to Birchall Foodservice, who are very kindly sponsoring the ingredients.

Just look at how delicious the final dish turned out! 😍

Meet the Team Tuesday 💛

𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐳 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐝 – 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫

Sarfraz has been volunteering with the Hospice since last May and is a valued member of our retail team, working four days a week at our Keirby Walk shop. His role is a busy one and includes sorting and rotating stock, processing Gift Aid, helping customers, making cups of tea and of course having a good old natter with customers.

Sarfraz said: “I love working here at the Hospice. It gets me out of the house, meeting new people every day, making new friends, and I really enjoy interacting with customers and making people happy.”

When asked about his favourite memory so far, Sarfraz shared that it was getting together with the other retail staff for a Christmas dinner at the Hospice.

Outside of his regular volunteering hours, Sarfraz spends much of his spare time at the Hospice helping out wherever he can, especially in the donation centre (on his days off!). When he’s not at the Hospice, he enjoys going out for walks, spending special occasions with his family and shopping with his parents. 🛍️

Sarfraz is well known around the Hospice for being a cheeky chappy.

We are so lucky to have him as part of our team and we love seeing him around! ✨

Three Generations of the Holt Family 🖼️

Three generations of artistic talent from one local family are being brought together through art and community spirit. As the Holt family raises funds for Pendleside Hospice in memory of loved ones who have passed away, while also giving thanks for the ongoing care and support the Hospice provides.

The family’s relationship with Pendleside Hospice began nine years ago, when Michaels father’s partner passed away at the Hospice.

Six years later Michael and his wife Carole, who was diagnosed with dementia, first accessed support through one of the Hospice’s dementia peer support groups.

More recently, Michael’s brother Nigel sadly passed away. Nigel’s artwork forms an important part of the exhibition, with Michael continuing his brother’s creative legacy by showcasing his work.

Now, the Holt family are honouring their artistic legacy and giving back once again by hosting a special art exhibition in support of Pendleside Hospice.

The exhibition will take place on Sunday 25 January, from 11am to 4pm at Foulridge Village Hall.
