Pendleside Hospice exists to promote and enhance the quality of life for people with advancing long term and life limiting illnesses, as well as provide support for their families and carers 💛 Local people commenced fundraising in October 1988 to provide hospice care for Burnley and Pendle people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting-illnesses. A day care service soon followed and we were allocated space at Pendle Community Hospital, whilst fundraising continued to build the Hospice, which opened in 1997. Since then, many thousands of local people have benefitted from our specialist palliative and end-of-life services. We now offer day therapy, specialist physiotherapy, complementary therapies, inpatient care, 24/7 hospice at home, counselling, bereavement support and spiritual care. Pendleside was built “by the people and for the people of Burnley and Pendle”; a statement that remains true today. Our vital services are only possible because of the outstanding charitable support of local people, who have given generously to Pendleside over many years. Without that support, the Hospice wouldn't be able to provide care that is relied upon by so many local families at very difficult times in their lives.

Glitterball champions crowned at Pendleside Does Strictly 2025 🪩

Pendleside Hospice sparkled once again on Friday 14th November as the hugely popular ‘Pendleside Does Strictly’ returned to Impact Conferencing (Life Church) in Burnley for its third consecutive year.

The glittering event brought together ten local ‘celebrities’, each paired with a professional dancer from Sandersons Nelson & Burnley delivering show-stopping performances that lit up the stage and the hearts of everyone watching.

Competition winner, Lee Clough, said: “This has been the best experience of my life and I’ve been lucky to share it with nine other fabulous contestants. A big thank you to everyone who supported us.

It's Santa suit collection week! 🎅

The countdown to the Santa Dash is on and it’s time to grab your Santa suit!

You can collect your suit from the Pendleside Hospice Reception from today (Monday 24th November) until Friday 28th November between 9am – 7pm.

Can’t get here before the event?

You can also collect your suit on the morning of the dash from the Pendleside Hospice gazebo at Towneley Park.

The countdown is ON… and we want to see as many of you as possible on Saturday 29th November at Towneley Park, dressed head-to-toe in Santa suits for this year’s festive Santa Dash!

Here are some questions we have frequently been asked:

👉 Can I walk the course?
✨ Absolutely! Most people do. It’s all about festive fun, not speed!

👉 Can children take part?
✨ Yes! Children are more than welcome to join in. The more mini-Santas the better!

👉 Do I have to wear the Santa suit provided?
✨ Nope! If you already have your own Santa suit, amazing! You get a reduced registration fee!

👉 Is it suitable for families?
✨ 100%! This is one of the most family-friendly events of the year.

We’re still blown away that Pendle Pub Walk 2025 raised an incredible £146,452.47, which makes it a record breaking year!

Thank you to the Rotary Club Of Burnley Pendleside and to all 2,542 walkers, along with our volunteers, pub partners, sponsors and supporters, for making this year’s event truly special.

Thankful Thursday 🫶

Thank you to our amazing abseilers!

A huge shoutout to everyone who took part in the Abseiling Challenge at Burnley College on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October!

Over 40 brave individuals took on the 60ft descent and together, raised an incredible £15,954.52 in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

This amazing total will go directly towards funding patient care, making a real difference in our community. 💛

Thankful Thursday 🫶

A huge thank you to Thornton in Craven Cricket Club & The Red Lion Earby!

Back in June, these incredible people came together for an amazing fundraising challenge, walking the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats by completing 321 laps around Earby and Thornton Cricket Club (that’s 837 miles in total!).

This was the second year running they’ve taken on this challenge, with all proceeds split between Thornton-in-Craven Cricket Club and Pendleside Hospice.

Thanks to their dedication and the support of the community, they raised an incredible total of £3,818.31! 👏

We are so grateful for their efforts and commitment to making a difference. 💚

Help us round up our yellow buckets and red tubs! 💛

As we’re getting closer to the end of 2025, we need to collect back all our red collection tubs and yellow buckets so we’re fully ready to launch our 2026 fundraising campaigns.

If you have one, whether it’s in a gym, café, workplace, community spot or even on your dining room table, we’d love for you to return it to us. ☕

And if you’ve spotted one out and about, please encourage others to bring them back too.

All buckets and tubs can be dropped off at our reception.

Royal Recognition for Pendleside Hospice’s Meals on Wheels Team 👑

We are bursting with pride as our very own Mark Scott, Catering & Domestic Services Manager, was invited to Clarence House to meet Her Majesty The Queen as part of Meals on Wheels Week!

This incredible honour comes after Pendleside won the 2025 NACC Meals on Wheels Award, a national recognition for the dedication, compassion and outstanding service our team delivers every single day. 🏆

Helen McVey, Chief Executive at Pendleside Hospice, said: “We are so proud of Mark and the whole catering team.

“The recognition from NACC and the invitation to Clarence House is wonderful, but it’s the people we serve who make this work so worthwhile. The difference our team and volunteers make to people’s lives every day is what truly matters.”
