A demonstration- Prasarita Padottanasana to Sirsasana

A wide leg forward fold flowing to a tripod supported headstand, inspired by the natural movements of the giraffe.
Nature and yoga go hand in hand with their synergistic relationship and nature is all around us offering constant inspiration.

This asana flow challenges strength, balance and flexibility, promoting a deep mind body connection and allows for concentration and decompression to calm the mind.

** Caution ** People with certain health conditions should not attempt a headstand, these include high blood pressure, glaucoma, neck or shoulder injuries, heart conditions, and pregnancy. It is also advised to avoid with other conditions, these include severe migraines, epilepsy, weak blood vessels, and recent eye surgery. It is best to consult a doctor or qualified instructor, such as Sue with GP referral accreditation, before practicing if you have any health concerns.

Had a fabulous weekend of training Mysore style Ashtanga Vinyasa, pranayama and mindfulness with my lovely friend and teacher Yvette who hosted International teacher Scott Johnson owner of London studio . Fabulous weekend workshop .
It was fabulous to give myself the time to dedicate to my own practice , and when I came home, switched on TV , there it was , the best Yoga asana (pose) known as PRASARITA PADOTTONASANA B (wide leg forward fold)
The benefits of which stretches the hamstrings and inner thighs also the spine. It improves balance and strengthens the car because it is an inversion. It has a common effect on the mind stimulate digestion and helps circulation to the brain. ! (Still waiting for the latter to take affect)!

In Yoga, Asanas (or postures) help to strengthen different parts of our physical body, whilst opening energy channels that can calm the mind, promote mental clarity, and release stress.

Utpluthih is Sanskrit for “uprooting” and the Utpluthih Asana is both a physical lift and arm balance posture, where we use our arm and core strength to lift us off the ground, and a posture that provides mental release, to lift us from states of anxiety and stress.

The regular practice of this asana will improve muscle tone, as you are using all the core muscles for the lift and balance. If you do the Utpluthih Asana on a regular basis, in a safe way, you can build strength in your deeper tissues, bones, ligaments and tendons.
It promotes hip stability and enhances upper body strength. This asana also helps to stretch the outer leg muscles and the hips. It can also improve the functionality of the digestive system.
Utpluthih Asana promotes calm and strengthens the mind body connection which can help you to develop a strong sense of balance, physically and mentally.

*Disclaimer* this asana is not suitable for those suffering from irregular blood pressure or heart conditions, or those with injuries (present or previous) to the wrists, shoulders and knees. Correct breathing is essential to executing and maintaining the posture, therefore you will require supervision and guidance whilst learning.

If you would like to learn more about the Yoga Asanas, and challenge your body and mind, book on to one of our small group classes or enquire about 1:1 PTs with Sue.

A 1:1 Reformer PT with Sue offers you the opportunity to improve all aspects of physical health and general wellbeing.
The Reformer is designed to focus on core strengthening Pilates movements that boost flexibility, tone muscles and improve posture and overall wellness, and in your 1:1 PT you will achieve this all under the expert guidance and watchful eye of an experienced professional- with over 15 years of Pilates qualifications and accreditation.

A 1:1 allows you to execute each move on the Reformer safely and effectively, as Sue guides you through a workout designed for your specific health and wellness needs, which with her GP accreditation can even include safe injury rehabilitation.

Reformer PT sessions will help to improve both your physical and mental wellbeing.
Increased flexibility can promote improved joint mobility, reduce muscle tension, and enhance range of motion, leading to greater ease of movement and reduced pain and stiffness, and, by focusing on precise and controlled movements, Reformer Pilates helps develop greater mind-body connection, concentration, and mindfulness. This, in turn, can boost mental clarity and calm. It only takes a few sessions to see and feel the positive changes!

The first sign of Autumn isn’t the changing leaves…it’s the return of pumpkin spice lattes.
In fact, it’s the return of pumpkin everything! From scented candles to stuffed scatter cushions, pumpkins right now are everywhere, but did you know the pumpkin actually has some pretty deep meaning?

In symbolism and tradition, the pumpkin represents abundance, happiness, generosity, gratitude and prosperity!
They also symbolise transformation and personal growth.

In spiritual symbolism, the whole pumpkin represents the world we live in, filled with blessings waiting to be granted. Each seed represents a blessing, an opportunity available to us in this life, and with the average pumpkin having about 500 seeds you can literally count your blessings!

Along with representing blessings, pumpkin seeds also represent your dreams! Whether that’s a dream for your future or the ones we have while getting a good night’s rest, each seed represents a possibility.
When appearing in a dream, pumpkin seeds are believed to be deeply connected to our spirit or soul, providing reassurance for a decision or goal you are pursuing. To dream of a whole pumpkin is to symbolize openness to new possibilities and encourage you to try new things!

The vine of the pumpkin ties directly into our lifelines of friendship and connection. The pumpkin receives all its nutrients from the ground through the vine, and is a connection to the world from which it grows.
Much like the pumpkin, we gain our social and spiritual “nutrients” through the “vine” of friendship. Making a connection with another person is how we grow as individuals, find deeper meaning in our lives, and stay healthy and strong. Without a strong connection to others we begin to shrivel up and lose our connection to the world we live in.
From a spiritual perspective, a weak “vine” or connection to our beliefs can weaken our faith and leave us lost. By strengthening our connection with our own spirituality we can better connect with the world around us and help others find their way.

So, next time you spot a huge pile of pumpkins in the supermarket, remember to count your blessings and be grateful for your transformative growth 🎃
