Maternity services in East Lancashire have been praised for focusing on the needs of local women and families and outstanding practice following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) 👏.

The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England and rate services in five categories - safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led - and maternity services at all sites at ELHT have a ‘good’ rating in every one.

Thank you to our maternity services for consistently providing brilliant care for our families and communities, and well done for this well-deserved recognition 💙

Behind our last door today, door 24 is Katie:
Hi my name is Katie, I'm a band 6 midwife and have been a part of the amazing Burnley birth centre team for about 6years. I am dual qualified and prior to midwifery I work as an orthopaedic nurse in Harrogate.
As long as I can remember I've always been fascinated by pregnancy and love a newborn snuggle. My lifelong dream was to become a midwife and this came true in April 2014 when I qualified. I am the lead midwife for Dr Khan's where I have seen women throughout there 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th pregnancy. I care for women and their families in the antenatal and postnatal period and occasionally cared for them in labour.
Outside of work I live on a small farm in the Yorkshire Dales with my partner Ste and our 3 beautiful children. The eldest who's 7 is following in my footsteps for her love of horses, the second for my fascination of pregnancy and love of the newborn and the youngest is following in his dad footsteps with the love of tractors.
All 3 of my children were born at home. I was lucky enough to have the support of my amazing colleagues and friends through out my 2nd and 3rd pregnancy. Something I'll never be able to thank them enough for.

Behind door 23 of our advent calendar today is Jess:
My name is Jess. I have worked on Burnley Birth Centre for almost two and a half years! I absolutely love my job, being able to care for women in labour and also working as the named midwife for Manchester Road Surgery in Burnley. It's such varied work, the best thing ever is when I get to care for a woman I know from Manchester Road during labour. It's so lovely to see the whole process from providing antenatal care through to that point of birth and afterwards. We are really honoured as midwives helping at such an important moment (and in the first moments) of people's lives.
I don't mind too much wearing masks still in the hospital environment, that way I can have a sneaky cry when things get really emotional. Watching women birth never ceases to amaze and move me!
I commute from Hebden Bridge where I live with my partner Dan and kids Edie 6 and Ezra 3. They are all cheeky monkeys (including Dan). We enjoy walking and roaming in the hills up from our valley. We have lots of reservoirs, rivers, and waterfalls we like to wild swim in (during the summer...though I would love to build up to some winter dips!)

Behind door 22 today is Vicki:
Hi my name is Vicki, I’m a band 6 registered midwife lucky to be part of the team at Burnley Birth Centre.
I wanted to be a midwife from a young age, I always find pregnancy and birth an absolute miracle 💙
I have been qualified now for 6 years and trained here at ELHT. I always wanted to work on the Birth Suite until I rotated to BGBC and found my ‘home’. My colleagues are so much more than this name, they are like family - we support each other through the good times and the not so good. I’m so lucky to be part of an amazing team.
I’m the named midwife for Barnoldswick and Pendle Valley Clinics, I absolutely love being involved with women throughout the whole pregnancy continuum. It is an immense privilege I feel to be part of the dawn of new life whilst providing low risk intrapartum care both on the Birth Centre and in women’s own homes.
I have been married to Steven for 18 years, he’s my absolute rock and support throughout my crazy busy personal and professional life 💙 We have two children Amelia and Freddie of whom we are incredibly proud, Mills following my footsteps with a love of all things equine and becoming a talented jockey with her horse Tom and Freddie P loving all things outdoors his biggest passions being rugby and mountain biking.
We are so so lucky to have our crazy beautiful dog Matilda to add to the madness along with our gorgeous boys Ace and Tom - I occasionally compete when I find the nerve 🫣🤣
