Thank you so much for your generosity! We were delighted that Graham surpassed his fundraising target and that the overall funds raised during the event mean that new harnesses can be purchased so more children can be included in activities.

Graham flew down the 50 foot zipline and tackled the climbing tower. But he also decided to go on the rather terrifying looking 3G swing as an added bonus!

Rhys was in it for the marshmallows... 🤣

There's still time to donate for anyone who wanted to - the link is in the comments.

We continue to be so grateful and blown away by everyone's generosity - we're now £20 off Graham's fundraising target. If you're able to spare a couple of pounds, it all helps and is very gratefully received. Please see the donation link in the comments.

Rhys is put out that he can't go up the climbing tower (not quite yet). But we hope that he and many other children can continue to access this facility for years to come. I'm sure he'll still enjoy watching Daddy fly down a 50 foot zip line on Saturday - I know that I will 😉

Scouts Scotland have said the following about how funds will be used:

At Scout Adventures Fordell Firs, we believe that adventure should be accessible to everyone. The right equipment makes all the difference in ensuring that people with complex and additional needs can take part in the excitement, challenge and confidence-building experiences that the outdoors offers. In the past, our accessible climbing equipment has enabled countless participants to enjoy activities such as climbing and crate stacking. These sessions have supported individuals with a wide range of needs, including lower limb paralysis and Cerebral Palsy, helping them to experience adventure in a safe, supportive and empowering way. Unfortunately, this specialist equipment has now reached the end of its safe working life and has had to be retired. Without it, we are currently unable to offer these vital accessible sessions, limiting opportunities for those who benefit from them most. By funding a new, modern harness system, we can reopen our existing accessible activities and go even further. Improved trunk support would allow us to safely expand opportunities to include experiences such as the zip wire or abseiling wall, while ensuring participants are properly supported and comfortable throughout. With your support, we can remove barriers, restore vital provision, and continue to make adventure truly accessible for all.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated so generously! We're £55 away from his fundraising target to help support the work of Scouts Scotland at Fordell Firs and make activities like climbing accessible for more children.

If you can spare even a couple of pounds, we'd be so grateful. You can donate through the link in the comments or by popping me a message to donate in person.

Graham has reached 70% of his fundraising target (including a £20 offline donation that is due to be collected this weekend) to support Scouts Scotland at Fordell Firs! Thanks so much to everyone who has already donated!

If you can give a couple of pounds to help him raise the last £75 of his target, we would be incredibly grateful. We have a hard copy pledge sheet if any local friends would prefer to donate in person. The link is below or pop me a message.

In the photos, you can see some of the activities that you will be supporting.

However, many young people with disabilities cannot take advantage of what Scout Adventures Fordell Firs has to offer unless the right equipment is in place. Items like disability harnesses, ropes and other equipment. We are raising funds to help replace these disability ropes and harnesses which have now come to the end of their usable life.

This is what Scout Adventures Fordell Firs says:

The right equipment makes all the difference in ensuring that people with complex and additional needs can take part in the excitement, challenge and confidence-building experiences that the outdoors offers.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already generously donated to this cause! We're super excited that Graham's already hit half of his fundraising target to help upgrade the equipment at the Scout camp at Fordell Firs!

We love that they provide accessible activities for children and young people - both scouts and children at local schools.

If you can manage to donate a couple of quid, it could help make a big difference. I've also got a pledge sheet if anyone who's local wants me to pick up your donation. Just pop me a message or donate at the link in the comments.

Asking for help is a key activity that can support our wellbeing as parents!
So I've asked my husband for help (I don't do heights) and he has kindly accepted the challenge of flying down the 50 ft zip line and scaling the climbing tower at Fordell Firs on 14 March!
The Scout centre at Fordell Firs near Dunfermline not only provides opportunities for scouts across Scotland. But it's also used by local schools in the region and provides accessible activities for children with additional support needs.
The climbing tower which can be adapted for children with additional supports and their accessible harness are currently in need of replacing. To support this fantastic facility to continue to provide accessible activities for our communities, we'd be grateful if you could donate even a few pounds. Every penny helps! Thank you for any support you can offer!
The link to donate is in the comments!

While holidays aren't the same as they were before he was born, travelling with my son has been one of my favourite activities.

That's because I'm passionate about visiting new places and having new experiences together as a family. I can also see how much he learns from travelling.

As a family, we've been camping, travelled from the UK to Canada several times to visit family, stayed in cottages and had city breaks and longer holidays in Europe.

This includes visiting new places and learning to appreciate places we've been to previously in a different way with a child.

We've had to navigate challenges at times but also been pleasantly surprised by the ease we've found at other times.

While travelling with children can be an incredible experience, many parents that I speak to avoid going on holidays that involve travel with their children. Or they book holidays and then feel anxious.

That's why I'm going to offer a 90 minute Travelling with Children workshop on Monday 19 May from 7:30-9pm.

The aim of this workshop is to share both practical tips for travelling with children. But it will also focus on supporting you to manage your anxiety about travelling with your child.

The investment for this online workshop will be £10 and a recording will be available if you can't make it live.

But they are just thoughts - even if they feel "horrible." Learning to be kinder to yourself can help when these thoughts pop up.
