It was great to visit the 7th Lichfield Scouts last week when we handed over another two of our refurbished laptops for their team to use for keeping on top of their administration.

Based in Ash Grove, Lichfield they meet every day of the week except Sunday, have an enthusiastic group of adult volunteers and over 200 members ranging in age from 6 to 18, taking part in Kayaking, Canoeing, Paddleboarding, Raft Building, Air Rifle Shooting and a wide range of other traditional Scouting activities.

It was really inspiring to meet Carl from Cherry Orchard Garden Services CIC (Community Interest Company) earlier this week, when we handed over three of our refurbished laptops for them to expand the delivery of their digital skills courses to the elderly and vulnerable in the local community.

Starting out as a training organisation to help local people with learning disabilities and autism take a more active and positive role in their community through work based learning, their students progress to provide award winning gardening services to local elderly residents, supporting them to live in their own homes without the worry of their gardens getting untidy and overgrown.

As time has gone on and the world becomes a more digitally managed place, the team realised that many of their clients and service users were potentially some of the most vulnerable to the increasing number and complexity of online scams, which appear on an almost daily basis.

As a result they have developed and expanded their services to provide two week digital skills courses, teaching vulnerable people how to use their phones, tablets or laptops more effectively, and how to stay safe online through identification of the most common scams and improving awareness of phishing attacks.

Following on from our recent posts looking for local charities or community interest companies who could make use of our refurbished laptops, it was great to meet Josh from Three Spires Gaming the other day when we handed over two of the refurbished laptops for their club to use for administration purposes, and to display some of the online games played during their club sessions.

Set up in 2019 as a non-profit community group in Lichfield, they meet once a week to help people with their mental health through the power of table top gaming. Offering a safe and secure place for people to meet and play these games with like minded people.

With 30 to 35 regular members, the group has had to move to larger premises since the pandemic as more and more people are looking to join.

A final reminder to all registered Charities and / or Community Interest Companies in the Burntwood and surrounding areas that we are looking to find new homes for six refurbished laptops and the deadline is tomorrow!! (Wednesday 17th April). So get your nominations / requests in now.

In total, we have 6 laptops – 5 of which have 15” screens and 1 which has a 14” screen, with a mixture of Intel i3 or i5 CPUs with 500GB HDD or SSD drives, 8GB+ RAM, USB 3 & HDMI ports. Each laptop has a working charger, the disks have been wiped clean of any data and a fresh install of Windows 10 has been loaded, ready to commission by the new user/s.

If a group that you are involved with would like to make use of one of these laptops, simply send an e-mail to sales@mercianlabels.com and / or leave a comment below before April 17th.
Please also share with your wider communities so we can reach any other suitable organisations who you think may benefit.
