Burntwood Holistic

Burntwood Holistic I provide reflexology from my room in Burntwood. I qualified in level 5 Reflexology in 2018 after completing a year long course with Jubilee College.

I have a keen interest in supporting those who are neurodivergant or have mental health difficutlies. Reflexology is an ancient holistic treatment where pressure points (usually your hands and feet) that correspond to other areas of the body are stimulated to produce a therapeutic effect. Reflexology can be beneficial for many conditions and disorders.

What are your favourite things to do that make you feel good?

Here are some ideas for you to try. These can be done every day, but especially when you're having a bad day. Music is one of my feel good favorites.. Putting on a favourite song to listen to can really lift my mood.

Can we talk about caffeine? According to the NHS caffeine can cause a whole host of side effects including anxiety, palpitations, sleeplessness and nervousness.

Have you ever thought about how caffeine could be affecting you? It certainly has and still does affect me but I am very careful about any caffeine I consume because I am very aware of how it makes me feel.

In my younger years from probably about 15 I used to drink probably about 5-10 cups of tea and coffee a day. I also suffered from chronic anxiety, insomnia, depression and a whole host of other issues. I never connected the two and never actually noticed any symptoms when drinking it. I had panic attacks most days. When I lived in Manchester I had actually been taken into hospital after having a distressing panic attack whilst at work.

In the days and weeks after this, I did some research on panic attacks and noticed lots of advice saying to reduce caffeine intake. I actually gave up caffeine completely for about a year. This really made a difference to me. It did take away my anxiety but I have never had a full blown panic attack again (for me this was hyperventilation, unable to talk, unable to move).

I do drink some caffeine occasionally now but only when I am feeling well, only in the morning and I only really drink tea and not coffee. It does still give me side effects but because I am so aware now about how it makes me feel I am able to control my intake. I generally only drink herbal teas as these do not negatively affect how I feel at all.

So if you are struggling with anxiety, sleeplessness or any of the other symptoms caffeine can cause it might be worth experimenting with how much caffeine you are drinking. You could also try some alternatives to help give you that stimulation and alertness without the caffeine such as cold showers, rosemary tea, taking a nap, staying hydrating ad some breathing techniques.

Welcome to all the likers and followers who have come across from Burntwood Foot Health and Reflexology. That page is now closed as I have merged my two page to just keep this one.

Below is some exciting updates about my Burntwood Holistic reopening and the services I'll be offering.

I want to day a massive thank you to all the people who have bared with me this past 3 years as I have been close due to having a few difficulties with my own health and wellbeing.

Whilst I am still still experiencing some issues I have made some incredible improvements thanks to my friends, family, NHS and some private healthcare services.

I am ready to start seeing clients again for Reflexology and will be reopening my Reflexology practice as of December. I will be seeing clients from my home treatment room which is currently having a little make over.

I won't be offering Foot Health for the foreseeable future but it is something I may revisit at some point. I would like to focus on providing reflexology and supporting my clients to look at their health and wellbeing holistically.

Indian Head Massage is something I will be offering and Ear Reflexology will be a new service I'll be offering from 2025.

Thanks again for.the support from.all.of you.

What are you currently doing that is just for you?

I'm doing a free blended learning course with Community Forest Services to help me find some natural alternatives to beauty, cleaning and much more...

This course is part way through but im sure they will sun it again at somw point... If you havnt done any learning with this company before then go check them out. I think most of their courses are free to residents of Staffordshire. Most are online but some are face to face or blended.. Rebecca, Mandi and the rest of the team are lovely and will definitely support you, should you have any additional needs.

Can we talk about self care and prioritising your self for a minute?

For a long time I have really struggled with this. Even before having my children, I have always been that person who is running around looking after everyone else, often to my own detriment. When my children arrived this was even worse..."My children come first" I would say to my self not realising my children were actually getting an exhausted, grumpy and really poorly Mummy as a result.

When my health took a massive turn for the worse after having my daughter I realised something needed to change because my self neglect, although not causing my illness was certainly not helping matters. I used to think that putting my self first meant I was putting everone one else last but that really isn't the case.

Through lots of research, counselling, a variety of nhs and non NHS workers and support from friends and family I have found ways to prioritise myself whilst still meeting the needs of my nearest and dearest.

I honestly feel that this switch in my attitude towards my own self has been the catalyst to the improvements I have seen in my health.

So if your struggling with prioritising your self please start taking steps today and you will see rewards for you and your whole family.

Start small by doing little things first such as making your drink and food first, set aside a little bit of time each day for you to do something just for you, write a list of things you would like to do, is ask for help if you need it and If your having a bad day, bad week or even a bad year...get that treat for your self, get your self some reflexology or a massage(or anything that will help you take time for your self) and remember that it is absolutely okay to say no.

Know someone who could do with some support with this? Tag them or send them this post to their in box.

Comment CARE if you would like to see some more posts around self care.

Michelle x

Happy Novemeber to you all.

Do you like the Autumn? What's your favorite thing to do?

I love the Autumn and so do my children. They love the crisp leaves and wonderful colours to see. As a family we love to spot all the weird and wonderful mushrooms that are sprouting up in almost every nook and cranny.

I got married in the Autum. Infact yesterday was our tenth wedding anniversary. We got married in the woods on Halloween. It was a glorious sunny day in my favorite place to be.

Me and my journey to becoming a Reflexologist and Foot Health Practitioner.

My name is Michelle and I have 13 years experience in the Health and Social care industry. I have always enjoyed caring for people and have worked with some lovely people throughout my career in care. My passion for holistic therapies started at a young age and I am still amazed at how beneficial they can be. When I was in my early 20`s I witnessed how Reflexology was helping calm and reduce behavioral issues in my severely autistic clients. This was the first time I had heard of reflexology and I was amazed at how my clients responded to it.

Almost 10 years later I tried Reflexology for myself with the lovely Karen at Loving Hands Holistic Clinic when I was struggling to conceive and under a lot of stress. I found the whole experience amazing, It really helped my stress and anxiety levels and I was left feeling so calm for days after each treatment. It was then I realised I wanted to help people using Reflexology. I completed Level 5 Clinical Reflexology alongside Level 4 Anatomy and Physiology in 2017 at Jubilee College in Sheffield. I thoroughly enjoyed my training which included palliative, fertility, and maternity reflexology training. I also completed training in Indian Head Massage with Birmingham Holistic.

During my time delivering Reflexology services to people in my local area, I noticed lots of people I had been treating had problems with their feet such as cracked heels, fungal nail infections, corns and callus. The more people I saw, the more and more I realised I wanted to be able to help these people. This is why I decided to complete the Advanced Level 4 Foot Health Practitioner course with Stonebridge College in Birmingham where I was taught how to treat all of the foot and nail conditions I had being coming across in my reflexology clinic.

I am a fully insured and registered Foot Practitioner. You can find my registration here on the Foot-reg register for Foot Health Practitioners. I am also registered with the Federation of Holisitc Therapists (FHT) and I am on their Complementary Healthcare Therapist register. Only therapists who are qualified, have received professional training and are insured can be on this register. You can check my listing here. I am also registered with the Guild of Holistic Therapists. You can be fully assured your in safe hands when receiving treatments from me.
