Only 14% of employers truly understand employees’ health & wellbeing needs. Here’s why that matters, and what to do. 🧭
Latest research from Towergate finds just 14% of employers strongly agree they grasp needs across all four pillars (physical, mental, social, financial), even though 86% are already asking employees via surveys, manager feedback, reviews, forums/focus groups and informal channels. Debra Clark, head of health and wellbeing at Towergate Employee Benefits, says the gap isn’t about intent, it’s about method and follow-through: blend anonymous routes for sensitive topics, collate insights centrally, and review regularly so support keeps pace with changing needs.
Practical takeaways:
- Pair short pulse surveys with manager 1:1s and moderated focus groups to reduce blind spots.
- Segment by role, location and life stage; track uptake and outcomes (not just clicks) to see what actually helps.
- Publish a simple “four pillars” roadmap so people know what’s available and how to access it.
- Re-test sentiment after changes and iterate—treat wellbeing like any other product.
