National Obesity Awareness Week - 10th - 17th January 2026

This week is all about raising awareness of obesity as a serious public-health issue across the UK and encouraging positive action toward healthier lifestyles. Obesity affects many people and is linked with conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. Simple changes β€” like increasing daily activity, choosing more nutritious foods, and supporting each other β€” can make a real difference. Let’s work together to turn obesity around and promote wellbeing for everyone! πŸ’š

Snow and ice warnings are in place across the country.

Falls are common, particularly in older people. If you or someone else falls, try to stay calm. Take a couple of minutes to check for any pain or injuries and see if you think you can get up.

If they need further help, call 111 or 999.

WORLD BRAILLE DAY! ☝
Braille is a tactile code that replaces each letter of the alphabet with a rectangular β€œcell” of six raised dots. Braille cells can be read through touch and can be combined - in the same way as letters from other alphabets - to make words. Braille has removed barriers to communication and information for people with sight loss.

January is Walk Your Dog Month. Get up off that sofa, get moving, and don’t let that sub-zero winter temperatures drag you down. Dogs need plenty of exercise throughout the year and the best way to keep them active in winter is to take them for regular walks. Even a short walk around the block on a cold day makes a big difference. So, begin this year with a pledge β€” better health for you and your dog! 🐾🐾

January is Walk Your Dog Month and we are celebrating ways to keep your dog healthy and active this winter!
