Godfrey Care recently visited the site of our upcoming residential care service – our first to be launched in Derby City – to discuss the exciting plans for Cedar House.

We’re bringing together care professionals, construction specialists and, most importantly, families, to shape a truly person-centred environment.

The historic Queen Anne Revival building will be thoughtfully transformed to create six self-contained apartments set within two acres of land, each with its own private garden area. The aim is to develop a bespoke setting that supports independence while delivering wraparound care tailored to individual needs.

We are delighted to be continuing our work in partnership with Derbyshire ICB, as well as partnering with commissioners from Derby City for the first time. The collaborative process is now underway as we gather insight, experience and perspectives from across the support network to help create a service that reflects the needs of each individual and the community.

In this video, we catch up with Business Development Lead Hayley Morgan and Managing Director Tracy Johnson as they share Godfrey Care’s vision for Cedar House and what this service will mean for the people we support.

Godfrey Care is delighted to announce the appointment of Tracy Johnson as Managing Director.

Tracy brings nearly three decades of experience in health and social care, with a strong track record in operational leadership, quality improvement and cultural transformation across multi-site specialist services. She joined Godfrey Care in August 2023 as Director of Operations and has played a pivotal role in strengthening performance, governance and quality oversight. Her appointment reflects both her impact within the organisation and her longstanding commitment to excellence in social care.

Prior to joining Godfrey Care, Tracy held senior roles with national care providers, including Group Head of Quality Operations and Director of Operations. Her progression from Support Worker to Registered Home Manager, Regional Manager and Director-level roles gives her valuable frontline insight alongside board-level experience.

In 2018, Tracy was recognised by the Care Quality Commission as one of 70 individuals nationally who made a significant contribution to health and social care, featured in Driving Improvement – Individuals Who Have Made a Difference, marking 70 years of the NHS.

Since joining, Tracy has worked closely with co-founders Andy Barnes and Hayder Atia to support the organisation’s continued development and growth. Godfrey Care delivers bespoke residential and supported living services for adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire, with new services launching in 2026.

Speaking about her appointment, Tracy said:

“Having been part of Godfrey Care’s journey for the past few years, stepping into the role of Managing Director is both a privilege and a responsibility that I embrace with great enthusiasm. I am proud to be part of an organisation deeply committed to making a difference to people’s lives. Working with our team, I look forward to strengthening our vision and position within the social care sector, guided by our mission of building futures together and our values of innovation, inclusivity, and resilience. Our success has always been powered by our people, and I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated team as we continue to grow and achieve incredible outcomes for the people we support."

Andy commented:

“Hayder and I are absolutely delighted to see Tracy move into this role. Tracy’s leadership, integrity and deep understanding of quality-driven care make her the ideal person to guide Godfrey Care through its next stage of development. She is passionate about raising standards and delivering meaningful, person-centred services, and we are confident in the future under her leadership.”

Pathways to Progression: Abbie Jaques

At Godfrey Care, we celebrate the career journeys of our colleagues. The latest feature in our Pathways to Progression series is Abbie Jaques, whose story highlights how support, opportunity, and hard work can lead to remarkable development.

Abbie joined Godfrey Care in January 2024 as a Support Worker at our Ash Tree House service in Burton-on-Trent, quickly developing skills, confidence, and a clear sense that adult social care was the right career path. She moved into leadership as Team Leader at our Field House service in Burton-on-Trent, and then Team Leader at nearby Canal Lodge, helping open the new service and supporting people through transitions.

Her dedication and growth were recognised with a promotion to her current role as Deputy Manager at Ash Tree House, where she continues to expand her knowledge, skills, and leadership experience.

Reflecting on her journey, Abbie says:

"I’m incredibly proud of how far I have come and grateful for the support and opportunities provided to me. I’m excited to continue my progression and will be starting my NVQ Level 5 as the next step in my development.""

Abbie’s story demonstrates how Godfrey Care invest in our people and create genuine pathways for progression. We’re delighted to support her as she continues to grow as a leader in care, epitomising our commitment to building futures together.

Sometimes, stepping away from the busy pace of work life can take you off the beaten track. This weekend, some of the Godfrey Care team did exactly that, heading to the Peak District for a well-earned team hike.

Amid a month of seemingly relentless rain, we were lucky enough to pick a glorious sunny day! Andy Barnes, Tracy Johnson, Ashley Hunt, Courtney Weir and Hayley Morgan were joined by Pablo the dog as we climbed Mam Tor, taking in some spectacular views before making our way back down into Castleton, completing a 6-mile walk in total.

Spending time together outside of our usual roles gave us the chance to connect, check in with one another, and enjoy a change of scenery with good conversation and a few laughs along the way — plus a well-deserved light refreshment at the end! The hike left us all feeling recharged and really positive.

We’re hoping to organise more walks and hikes in the future and would love more colleagues to come along. It’s a great way to unwind and strengthen friendships within our team.

Godfrey Care are delighted to introduce our latest property investment in Derby City, where we are breathing new life into a historic building to create a new specialist residential care service.

Previously used for a range of services, the Queen Anne Revival building has served the city for over a century but has been vacant since August 2024. Now, we are proud to begin its next chapter. Having purchased the site earlier this month, we are transforming the property into Cedar House — a bespoke service for people with complex, high-acuity needs.

Cedar House will be carefully redesigned and redeveloped to create six self-contained apartments alongside thoughtfully planned communal spaces that promote connection, independence and wellbeing. Occupying two acres of land, the site has a high proportion of ground-floor accommodation, creating a valuable opportunity for each living space to have direct access to its own private garden area.

Godfrey Care Co-CEO, Hayder Atia, said:

“Cedar House represents our continued commitment to developing high-quality specialist residential services in this region. Our development model is built on genuine co-production. From the earliest stages of planning, we work closely with local authorities, commissioners, healthcare professionals, families and, most importantly, the people we support. Through collaborative design and a focus on individual needs, we will create an environment where people are empowered to live with greater independence and opportunity. We are very excited about the significant potential of the space within these buildings to develop something special.”

Further updates on Cedar House will follow as redevelopment progresses.

Waverley House: celebrating six months as a standout service!

At Godfrey Care, we’re proud to work in close partnership with local authorities to lead innovation in bespoke care services, built through genuine co-production with commissioners, professionals, families and the people we support. This collaborative approach ensures services are not only personalised, but truly responsive to complex and evolving needs.

Waverley House in Alfreton is a standout example of our co-production model in action. Opened just six months ago, the service has already had a positive impact on the people who moved in, supporting them to achieve goals that were previously out of reach in other settings.

Waverley House was praised by Derbyshire County Council as an important new residential service supporting young people with high care and support needs. This recognition highlights Godfrey Care’s growing reputation as a trusted partner to local authorities and care commissioners, delivering innovative, person-centred solutions where traditional models may fall short.

We’re incredibly proud of the Waverley House team and grateful to the families and our partners at Derbyshire County Council for their collaboration. Together, we remain committed to developing high-impact, bespoke services that enable people to live fulfilling lives determined by their choices and aspirations.

We’re delighted to share the appointment of four senior leaders, further strengthening our team as we continue to grow and develop our services at Godfrey Care.

Lucian Suciava joins us as Regional Manager, overseeing Supported Living East Midlands, The Meadows, Waverley House and the opening of our new Derby City service. With over 35 years’ experience in social care, Lucian trained as a registered nurse and has progressed from support worker to senior operational leadership roles, including peripatetic turnaround projects. A passionate and self-motivated leader, he is committed to delivering high-quality, safe, effective and well-led services through strong engagement, coaching and team development.

Sue Brinkworth has stepped into a new Regional Manager role following several months as Interim Manager with Godfrey Care. Sue will oversee Pine Bank, Dorset House, and the opening of two new services in Nottinghamshire. Bringing more than 25 years’ experience in social care, she has extensive expertise across residential and supported living services, supporting adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge. Sue is a values-driven leader who equips teams to implement positive behaviour support and drive meaningful, lasting change.

We’re also pleased to welcome Dariusz Brysz as our new Head of Quality & Compliance. Dariusz brings over 19 years of experience across regulatory, operational and strategic roles in adult health and social care, including three years as a Care Quality Commission Inspector. He has led transformative quality improvement initiatives that strengthen compliance with CQC standards and embed a culture of continuous improvement. With strong expertise in data analysis, project management, stakeholder engagement and regulatory frameworks, Dariusz is passionate about driving innovation and improving outcomes for the people we support.

We are equally delighted to introduce Sheridan Bettney as our new Service Manager at Dorset House. Sheridan brings extensive experience in the care sector, having begun her career in recruitment before progressing into service management. Having completed her Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management, she combines strong operational understanding with fresh ideas and enthusiasm. We are confident she will be a fantastic addition to the already excellent team at Dorset House.

Together, these appointments reflect our continued investment in leadership, quality and service excellence. We’re excited about the experience, energy and commitment they bring as we continue building futures together.

Supporting National Apprenticeship Week!

At Godfrey Care, we are proud to champion apprenticeships and work-based learning across our organisation. We believe that learning and growth go hand in hand with making a real difference. Work-based learning gives people the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence they need while doing the work they love. There’s no better place to see this in action than in social care, a sector uniquely suited to apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships enable our teams to immediately apply new knowledge in real-life settings, strengthening confidence and competence. They open doors to new opportunities by helping colleagues build practical, career-enhancing skills and progress into leadership roles.

Godfrey Care are committed to creating clear progression pathways through apprenticeships at every stage of a career. We’re currently supporting colleagues undertaking their Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care, others progressing through the Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care, and senior leaders completing the Level 7 Senior Leader apprenticeship — a Master’s-level qualification.

By supporting continuous professional development, we empower individuals to grow, advance into management and senior leadership roles, and help shape the future of care. Investing in people not only builds stronger teams but also ensures the highest quality of care for the people and communities we support.

For some people, the sight of heavy snowfall is a signal to stay indoors. For others, it’s a cue to head outside and embrace the winter wonderland!

The fun-loving folk at Ash Tree House in Burton-on-Trent definitely belong to the second category. A thick covering of snow was irresistible to LC and JB. The pair layered up to play in the garden, enjoying the crunch beneath their feet as they stepped across the lawn, then headed further afield to have fun in the local park and discover a frozen lake.

At Godfrey Care, we love the great outdoors — whatever the weather, whatever the season!

Godfrey Care are delighted to mark another milestone in our ongoing growth with the purchase of a detached property in Sutton-in-Ashfield, which will be redeveloped as our latest residential care service.

The property will be transformed to a bespoke specification, creating four self-contained apartments alongside thoughtfully designed communal spaces that encourage connection, independence and wellbeing. Each apartment provides ground-floor living enjoying its own private garden. The new service, to be called Willow Lodge, will follow Godfrey Care’s highly successful development model, engaging families, local authorities and care professionals from the outset to help inform an environment that truly supports those who live and work there.

Our experience in delivering complex design-and-build projects ensures each development is tailored, future-proofed and fully aligned with our person-centred approach to care and support. As with previous projects, Willow Lodge will be developed through a collaborative process, reflecting best practice in care delivery while responding to the needs of individuals and the local community.

Andy Barnes, Co-CEO, Godfrey Care, said:

“The property we have purchased for Willow Lodge has enormous potential, and we are incredibly excited about what we can achieve through its redevelopment. Last year, we transformed two properties into thriving services — The Meadows in Beeston and Waverley House in Alfreton — both of which are now recognised as benchmarks for co-production in complex care.

Willow Lodge will represent everything we strive for at Godfrey Care: thoughtfully designed environments, high-quality accommodation and care services that genuinely enhance people’s lives.
