What if you could reduce BRD cases AND improve growth rates at the same time? 📈

A study of 3,000 cattle, averaging around 270kg liveweight, were split into randomised groups of 150 head per pen. The cattle were on a forage and concentrate ration, and all health checks and protocols were carried out as standard.

The treatment pens received 2g per head of Celmanax, a yeast culture found in our Cattle Booster Plus buckets, and the control group had none of this supplement, and the performance of the cattle was monitored over 66 days.

The results:
✔ Significant reduction in BRD cases
(32.4% vs 42.4%)
✔ Improved growth rates
(1.37kg/day vs 1.25kg/day)
✔ Treated cattle were, on average, 9.7kg heavier

Pre-calving nutrition should be a priority 🌱
Continuing buoyancy in global beef markets should encourage spring calving, suckled calf producers to double down on pre-calving nutrition.

Correct supplementation should always be a cost-effective investment, but, with store and finished cattle prices forecast to remain strong, it will pay to be in a ‘best practice’ mindset.

The six to eight weeks leading up to calving is one of the most critical parts of the process of producing strong, healthy cattle for sale, so providing a proven, well-formulated and balanced source of nutrition at this point should be your priority.

Not just because they are such a heartwarming sign of spring, but because daffodils are the foundation of a groundbreaking project called ‘Dancing with Daffodils’ that we hope will reduce agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions ☀️

How?
As part of a team, Rumenco’s nutritionists and development chemists are working on a new feed additive made using an alkaloid found in daffodils.

When?
We are halfway through a four-year project that is aimed at cultivating daffodils as a cash crop to help produce the feed additive. While we are still in the early stages it is hoped that the project will deliver a feed additive that can reduce the impact of livestock production on the environment.

Daffodils are more than just a sign of spring…🌼
As part of a four-year study we are working with a group of 10 contributors on the ‘Dancing with Daffodils’ project.

The project aims to:
▫Develop a new feed additive that will reduce the impact of livestock on the environment
▫Make milk and meat production more sustainable
▫Reduce the carbon footprint of livestock production
▫Improve ruminant dietary protein utilisation

The humble daffodil is the key to achieving this and the project is working on extracting an alkaloid found in daffodils that will produce a feed additive.
