Assurer Medical are running a mountain medicine specific PHTLS course on 8/9 February in Coniston, Lake District.
NAEMT’s 9th edition, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is internationally recognised as the leading continuing education programme for pre-hospital emergency trauma care. Our course is delivered specifically to the mountain medicine environment and as such practical elements will be held outside whatever the weather.
Our faculty are subject matter experts in mountain medicine and Nick is the author of chapters in both 9th edition UK textbook and forthcoming 10th edition.
The beautiful Lake District is our normal home for course delivery and our friends at Coniston Mountain Rescue Team host us. The venue in Coniston provides our candidates great access to the surrounding mountains where skills can be put to practice contextually.
As well as delivering the standard PHTLS course content we bolt on additional teaching such as:
▪️high altitude medicine, including the use of the portable altitude chamber
▪️stretcher handling
▪️Point of care ultra sound for use in remote areas
This intensive 2 day programme teaches candidates how to effectively manage a multi-system trauma patient, whilst helping to expand clinician knowledge, critical thinking and skill-set in order to help reduce mortality and morbidity of those injured. Following practical and knowledge assessments, NAEMT certification is awarded and is valid for 4 years.
