Summer is coming and with all the jobs of repotting, propagating, trimming, rotating, watering, cleaning and so much more, it can easily feel overwhelming.

Instead of covering all my summer plant care jobs in one video, I’ve decided to create an 8 part mini series to cover all aspects individually.

Follow along this 8 part series where I’ll be covering the following:

Part 1 - Plant room run through - making a mental note of jobs to do

Part 2 - Prune & let go

Part 3 - Repotting

Part 4 - Watering

Part 5 - Light positioning reset

Part 6 - Feed, clean & style

Part 7 - Propagating

Part 8 - Pest checks & prevention

Head over to my YouTube channel to have a watch of Part 1 up now: https://youtu.be/7vRl2tbLhCs?si=gXWnkMQ8Asnum8lp

If there are any tips you’d like me to cover, please let me know in the comments.

AD / Part of my house is 500 years old which means a low ceiling and dark corners.

I wanted to have a plant in this corner but the plant never thrived with the low light that it’s been receiving.

Since using the .store Pianta Grow Light, my plant has had 5 brand new leaves all at once!

The Pianta LED light promotes photosynthesis which helps plants grow healthier and more robust indoors.

When I grew up in South Africa, I had so many beautiful plants in my garden and surrounding spaces from succulents, cacti, Ficus, Euphorbia, Philodendron….

I never had to water, pest check, dust or care for them as nature did that for me.

A little confession….

When I started my houseplant collection in the UK, I expected my plants to look after themselves indoors too. I wouldn’t really treat pests as I was so used to nature taking care of that for me!

I’ve learnt the hard way as pests would eventually take over and kill my plants.

I’ve experimented over the years and found the best pest solutions that work for my plants.

In my last YouTube video, I’m chatting about the most common pests in my collection - fungus gnats, thrips and mealybugs and how to treat them with controls that truly work!

At the end of every month, I like picking my favourite plants and my new YouTube video is all about that - my March favourites!

None of the plants that I’ve picked are particularly special, rare or unusual.

January to March have been super busy months with team building workshops so I haven’t had much time to check over my plants as much as I would do normally.

So these plants that I’ve picked have been super easy and low maintenance (might be useful if you’re looking for easy plant suggestions) and some have even rewarded me with new growth!

🪰 Little Black Flies / Fungus Gnats 🪰

One of the most annoying things when keeping plants is having to swipe away black flies, also known as ‘fungus gnats’.

Fungus gnats lay eggs in soil and multiply very quickly.

The adult gnats fly around the top of pots and they’re usually caught with yellow sticky tapes.

However, the young larvae breed underneath the soil and they need to be treated with nematodes (microscopic eel worms). Nematodes target the young larvae and stop the breeding cycle.

I’ve been using nematodes on my plants as I had a fungus gnats infestation - I can’t recommend this treatment enough.

I recently visited the Cambridge Botanical Gardens.

Beautiful to see the plants arranged in a way that mirrors their natural habitat.

Some of these plants I had around me growing up in South Africa and some I have in my plant room now.

My dream trip would be a botanical excursion to somewhere like Colombia, Indonesia or even a week back in South Africa just to explore plants in their natural habitats.
