📋What other needs to know about your choices for care and treatment 📋

A ReSPECT form (Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment) is a simple but important document for older people in the UK. It records their wishes for emergency care if they become seriously unwell.

Here are the key benefits:

* Ensures wishes are respected
Clearly states what treatments the person would or wouldn’t want, including CPR and hospital admission.
* Guides healthcare professionals quickly
In an emergency, doctors and paramedics (including those in the NHS) can make decisions based on the person’s preferences without delay.
* Reduces unnecessary or unwanted treatment
Helps avoid interventions that may not improve quality of life or align with the person’s values.
* Gives peace of mind
Reassures both the individual and their family that decisions are already thought through and documented.
* Supports dignity and quality of life
Focuses care on what matters most to the person, especially in serious or end-of-life situations.
* Helps families and carers
Removes uncertainty and stress by making the person’s wishes clear, reducing difficult decision-making during crises.

You can get one of these completely by your GP or other health professionals.

📄 Understanding DNAR Decisions 📄

Talking about future care can feel difficult—but planning ahead can bring clarity and peace of mind 💛

A DNAR (Do Not Attempt Resuscitation) decision lets healthcare professionals know your wishes about CPR.

Here’s why it can be important:

✔ Ensures your wishes are known and respected
✔ Helps avoid unwanted or distressing interventions
✔ Supports clear communication with healthcare teams
✔ Gives reassurance to family members during difficult times
✔ Forms part of wider care planning

These decisions are always personal and should be made with the right support and information 🤝

Having open, honest conversations can help everyone feel more prepared.
