I’ve been trying out these device’s on myself over the last couple of weeks as I don’t like to offer anything at the clinic that I can’t guarantee works. I was so impressed 🤩 last week I started to incorporate them in my treatments, 👐🏼 the tissues speak for themselves on the effectiveness! I’m very excited to continue using them at the clinic.

Cupping draws blood to the surface of the skin 🩸
These marks (petechiae) form when small blood vessels or capillaries, break under the skin due to the suction.

Marks vary depending on several factors ⚖️
- individual’s health
- intensity of the suction
- location of the cups
😳 They might look dramatic but they fade over time, typically within a few days - 2 weeks

🧐 The colour of the marks provide important clues about the body’s internal state and when used regularly, how the therapy is impacting you.

Light Pink/Red
👍🏼 The area treated is in good condition
➡️ Therapy is enhancing circulation without encountering significant blockages/toxins ❓The therapy has pulled blood to the skin’s surface to a mild degree.
(These marks fade the quickest)

Bright Red
👌🏼 Typically appear in areas with significant muscle tension or inflammation
➡️ The body is actively dealing with stress or tension in that area
❓The therapy is quickly restoring blood flow to an area where it was previously restricted.

Dark Red/Purple
👎🏼 Associated with chronic conditions
➡️ Long-term stagnation of blood/buildup of toxins in the area
❓There has been restricted blood flow/tension in the muscles for an extended period.
The stagnant blood is brought to the surface resulting in darker marks but are an indication that the cupping is working effectively to promote healing.
(These marks may take longer to fade, often up to 2 weeks)

Yellow/Greenish
👌🏼Usually appear as the darker marks begin to fade
➡️ Sign that the body is breaking down and metabolising the waste products that were brought to the surface during the cupping session
❓As the body processes the stagnant blood and toxins, it breaks down the red blood cells leading to the appearance of yellow/greenish colouring as part of the natural healing process.
Your body is in the process of healing and the treated area is recovering. 🥳

None
🙌🏼 No marks or very faint ones, is seen in areas where there is excellent circulation and minimal stagnation.

What is cupping therapy?

Cupping therapy also known as myofascial decompression, involves placing cups onto the skin to create a suction.

What does cupping therapy do?

The suction involved in cupping loosens the fascia and connective tissue and stimulates localised blood flow to speed up the healing process.
This action also stimulates the body’s heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) system, which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neurotransmitter regulation effects.

* reduces adhesions (knots) in muscle tissue
* Aids in the break down of scar tissue
* Passively stretches myofascial tissue
* Increases range of motion of the affected area
* Increases collagen production and tissue repair
* Relieves muscle spasms
* Breaks up adhesions in tissue
* Reduces inflammation
* Aids in the reduction of cellulite and tones skin
* Detoxifies the lymphatic system/aids lymphatic drainage

What conditions can cupping help?

* spinal disk wear and tear (cervical spondylosis)
* high blood pressure
* cardiovascular disease prevention
* musculoskeletal pain
* lower back pain
* neck pain
* fibromyalgia
* carpal tunnel syndrome
* headache
* migraine
* cellulitis
* soft tissue injury
* arthritis
* digestive issues

How are the effects different from massage?

The suction creates a negative pressure environment, allowing for myofascial decompression as the skin is drawn into the cups.
While massage therapy uses direct pressure to release tension, cupping uses negative pressure to lift the muscle fibers and increase blood flow to the area.

Will it mark my skin and How long will it leave marks on my skin for?

Cupping causes marks to the skin, due to blood being drawn to the surface.
Spots left behind, typically fade after several days or a week and this varies from person to person.
Lower limb cupping doesn’t mark the skin so much and tends to fade quicker than the upper body.

Due to this nature, cupping is not suitable for some medical conditions and is not available to all clients.
