to help you stop feeling anxious and start feeling prepared: https://www.betterbirthandbaby.co.uk/masterclass-better-birth I am Debbie Willis, a Pregnancy and Birth Coach and Antenatal Educator specialising in Hypnobirthing. I had two normal and straightforward (I often call them ’boring’) births that led me to want to support women and birthing people to have the birth they want – a positive one - just like I did. During the past 10 years I have supported over 300 couples to feel calm and even excited about the birth and have had a great many positive birth stories from them showing how the tools and techniques they learnt helped them, no matter what birth journey they had on the day. My passion is for all women to have a positive experience of birth and not be in fear of what their body is designed to do. My experience has led me to develop 7 key steps that help mums-to-be reduce fears they have around the birth and trust in their bodies to enable them to have the birth they want. They include hypnobirthing and mindfulness techniques to help reduce the likelihood of interventions, to reduce pain that they may be feeling and help them feel in control, and having the tools to be able to make informed evidence-based decisions that are right for mum and baby. WHEN BIRTH DOESN'T FOLLOW THE 'PLAN'

It’s not always the events of birth that feel traumatic, it’s how suddenly everything can shift, and how unprepared (and not listened to) we feel in that moment.

Having a birth plan is a brilliant way to clarify your hopes, values, and preferences. To guide others in the birth room with you. But birth doesn’t always follow a script. And when things change quickly, not having discussed your options or how you want to respond can leave you feeling powerless, unheard and overwhelmed.

That’s why I encourage every client to explore the “what ifs” in advance:

🤔 What if you’re offered an induction?

🤔 What if labour slows or speeds up unexpectedly?

🤔 What if your care provider recommends intervention?

🤔 What if you feel like things are out of your control?

Talking these things through ahead of time, especially with your birth partner, helps you stay grounded and feel in control. It gives you space to ask questions, weigh your options, and still feel in charge, even if the plan changes.

A positive birth isn’t about everything going “to plan.” It’s about feeling informed, supported and confident in the choices you make, whatever those end up being.

If you want support creating a flexible, confident birth plan (and mindset), I’d love to help.

Being labelled 'high-risk' in pregnancy can feel like a tidal wave of fear, statistics, and restrictions.

It often comes with more appointments, more opinions, and more assumptions about what your birth is going to look like.

If you’re over 35 for example, or maybe planning a VBAC, or maybe had complications in a previous pregnancy, you may already feel like the choices are being made for you.

But let me offer this reframe:

Being classed as high-risk doesn’t mean you’re destined for a traumatic, highly medicalised or intervention filled birth.

It simply means the system is watching more closely.

But it can sometimes feel like you you’ve lost your voice, or your ability to experience pregnacy and birth in a calm and positive way.

So here is what I want you to know:

✅ You can be consultant-led, and still make informed decisions that feel right for you. You can say 'No' to anything. It's always your choice.

✅ You can have birth preferences, even if you’re having an induction or planned caesarean.

✅ You can carry the label 'high-risk' and feel like you have everything in control.. and even look forward to the birth.

Most importantly, you don’t have to navigate this alone.

If you’re pregnant and feeling overwhelmed or anxious and want more than just a checklist.. you want clarity, confidence, and meaningful support.. my support is designed for you.

✨ I help mums and mums-to-be prepare for birth in a way that calms the mind, supports informed choices, and helps you feel ready, no matter what route your birth takes.

📥 If that sounds like what you’ve been looking for, send me a message and we can chat about how we can work together.

There are 3 things about birthing in today’s maternity system that you need to know about:

1️⃣ You need to ask questions. Don’t let white coat syndrome stop you from speaking up. Just because something is routine doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for you. It’s your body, your baby, and your baby's birth - so ask, understand, and make decisions that feel right.

2️⃣ They won’t teach you how to birth with minimal intervention. The system is set up to manage birth, not necessarily to support physiological birth. If you want to reduce interventions, you’ll need to prepare yourself. That means learning how your body works, how to manage your environment, and how to stay in control.

3️⃣ Your birth partner needs to be your advocate. You’ll be deep in what I often call the 'birth-zone' during labour, so having someone who knows what you want and can speak up for you is crucial. A confident, informed birth partner doesn’t just help you, they also make it easier for others to respect your wishes.

💡 If you want to feel prepared, in control, and fully supported, I can help. My support will give you the knowledge and tools to navigate the system with confidence. Message me for more info.

There’s a moment in pregnancy that doesn’t get talked about very much.

Usually late at night.

One hand on your bump and the other scrolling advice that all seems to contradict itself.

And something shifts.

You realise everyone seems very certain about what you should do.

What the guidelines say.
What’s safest.
What’s sensible.

And yet… something inside you hesitates.

Not because you want to be difficult.
Not because you don’t care.
But because it doesn’t quite land right in your body.

That moment when you realise you might not want to follow the herd can feel unsettling.

Especially if you’re capable, informed, and already emotionally stretched.

Here’s what I wish more women knew:

Thinking for yourself in pregnancy isn’t rebellious.
It’s quietly brave.

It’s not about rejecting care.
It’s about learning to listen.. to evidence and to yourself, your body and your baby.

Because when decisions feel big, it’s not the loudest voice that helps most.
It’s clarity.
Confidence.
Knowing about the evidence.
And trusting that you’re allowed to choose thoughtfully.

If this resonates:
You’re not behind.
You’re not overthinking.
You’re not being difficult.

You’re becoming a mother who trusts herself.
And that matters more than following any herd ever could.

Warm wishes,
Debbie

Are you worried about tearing during birth?

So many of you will have heard horror stories about tearing… or you might be wondering how on earth a baby can be born without a perineal tear.

Maybe you’ve experienced a tear before and want to reduce the chances of it happening again this time.

I get it. I felt exactly the same when I was pregnant. I assumed tearing was just a part of birth and I was genuinely scared about how it would affect me afterwards, at a time when all I wanted to do was focus on my baby.

Then I discovered a few golden nuggets of information. I learned why tearing happens and, more importantly, what actually helps reduce the risk. I couldn’t believe I’d never been taught this… and honestly, I still can’t believe everyone isn’t.

And guess what? It works.

Over the past 13 years, I’ve supported hundreds of couples and taught them the key things they can do to have a positive birth experience and how they can have a better post- birth recovery.

The feedback I get time and time again? It makes a real difference.

I know this can feel like a sensitive topic, but having the right information and practical steps can be incredibly empowering.. and can positively shape your whole experience.

A BABYMOON WITH PURPOSE.

It’s that time of year when many of us are thinking about how, when and where we are going to spend our holidays or long-weekend getaways this year.

When you are pregnant and due a baby, these decisions can feel a little more complex…

Not wanting to use up too many precious holiday days.

Not wanting to travel too far from home.

Wanting rest, reassurance, and something that genuinely feels worth it.

But what if there was a perfect solution?

Imagine arriving at a beautiful, peaceful retreat on the edge of the Suffolk countryside.

No rushing. No schedules to keep. Just time.

Time to slow down.

Time to breathe.

Time to reconnect with each other as a couple before life changes forever.

Your days are unhurried.. gentle walks, cosy evenings, deep rest.. alongside guided hypnobirthing sessions from my Bespoke Better Birth Course, woven naturally into your stay.

You learn how to calm your nervous system, build confidence in your pregnant body, and prepare together for birth in a way that feels empowering rather than overwhelming.

This isn’t just a babymoon.

It’s preparation, wrapped in calm... and designed with the intention of helping you to step into birth feeling calm, prepared and in control

Have you thought about how and where you want to escape to before baby arrives?

Be careful how you speak to yourself during pregnancy… your birthing brain is always listening

The language you use during pregnancy and labour matters more than most people realise.

Your brain is constantly forming associations between words, emotions and bodily responses. And your subconscious doesn’t filter language or question it.. it simply absorbs what it hears, especially when messages are repeated.

Pregnancy is often filled with fear-based phrases we barely notice like "I don't think I'll cope with the pain.”

Over time, this kind of language can shape expectations. And expectations influence how the body responds in labour.. through muscle tension, stress hormones and how safe or threatened your nervous system feels.

This isn’t about 'positive thinking' or pretending birth will be easy.

It’s about understanding how your birthing brain works and using that knowledge intentionally.

When language is calm, positive, informed and supportive, your body will be able to relax more easily and respond to labour as it's designed to.

You may not even realise how you are speaking to yourself.. but your birthing brain notices everything.

Every thought, every story, every internal dialogue is quietly laying foundations long before labour begins.

Learning how to reframe language is one of the most practical, evidence-based ways to reduce fear, build confidence and help you to have a better birth experience.

✨ This is a core part of my Better Birth Programme, where we focus on informed preparation, understanding your physiology, and giving you tools that help your mind and body work together.. whatever your birth circumstances.

Science shows that gratitude can rewire neural pathways, reducing anxiety and improving our ability to cope with pain and stress.

This matters in pregnancy and birth.

Pain isn’t just physical, it’s neurological. When the brain feels threatened, pain intensifies. When it feels safe, supported and resourced, oxytocin flows more freely and your ability to cope with contractions improves.

Gratitude isn’t about pretending birth is easy. It’s about creating the biological conditions that help you cope better within it.

As this year comes to a close, I’m feeling incredibly grateful:
🙏 To every couple I’ve supported
🙏 To those who trusted me with their birth preparation and birth stories
🙏 To everyone who attended retreats, babymoons, courses and refresher sessions

You are the reason I love what I do.

With so much to look forward to next year including retreats, babymoons, courses and more, I can’t wait to support even more of you on your journey.

Thank you for being part of my year 💕

Season’s greetings to you and yours.
