Join us tomorrow lunchtime (22 April) for our next LIVE CPD Academy webinar - The importance of advice to reduce worm risk and the vital role of the equine SQP in delivering this - with Jacqui Matthews 12:30-13:30 https://www.amtra.org.uk/AcademyDates.

Advice is a cornerstone of the SQP role. Resistance to equine wormers is prevalent and every interaction is an opportunity to slow the development of resistance. The importance of informed advice and sound discussions with horse owners to reduce inappropriate use of wormers and slow the development of resistance is key. Professor Jacqui Matthews will talk through this and the CANTER guidelines, to which she made significant contributions.

If you're a a livestock SQP and are working with sheep producers/farmers, encourage them to complete the industry-wide UK Lambing Survey which will help build a clearer picture of the challenges facing the sector, from disease threats and vaccine supply issues to unpredictable weather and other emerging pressures. The UK Lambing Survey 2026 is being led by the University of Nottingham and Fiona Lovatt of Flock Health Ltd, who also chairs the Sheep Antibiotic Guardian Group (SAGG).
Dr Lovatt is encouraging sheep producers to complete the survey, stressing the importance of gathering accurate information from farms across the UK. The survey can be completed using the following link https://lnkd.in/eDffzSuk or by scanning the QR code in the graphic below.
The survey will close on 30th June 2026.

Working for the long term future of the RAMA sector

AMTRA is a not-for-profit organisation, working since 1986 to support the long term future of the Registered Animal Medicines Advisor sector, managing the RAMA registration for almost 7000 AMTRA RAMAs.

AMTRA is appointed by the Secretary of State to keep its Register of SQPs (RAMAs), which brings associated responsibilities including an effective disciplinary process to take action in the case of RAMAs not following the SQP Code of Practice, together with a mandatory system of CPD.

Additionally, AMTRA undertakes a number of other activities to support AMTRA RAMAs, helping to support and enhance the quality of AMTRA RAMAs, the service they provide to animal owners, and supporting their long-term future.
