Sarah Coe - Individual Counselling

Sarah Coe - Individual Counselling Hello and a warm welcome, I'm Sarah. Free Initial Consultation offered. Perhaps you are facing something specific, or perhaps it feels harder to name?

As a psychodynamically trained counsellor, i offer a safe, supporting, non-judgemental and confidential space for you in my peaceful cabin to speak and be heard. I am an experienced and compassionate counsellor offering one-to-one counselling for adults in a calm, confidential setting—either in person, from my peaceful garden cabin in Bardwell (just 9 miles northeast of Bury St Edmunds), or remotely via Microsoft Teams or telephone. Sometimes we all find ourselves struggling through life, facing emotions & feelings, situations & behaviours that we think we have to manage alone. At these times in our lives we just need a bit of space & peace to talk, be heard and work out exactly where we are in our lives & where we want to be. I know picking up the phone or emailing can be daunting and perhaps difficult and that you may have been thinking about it for some time and only now feel able to take that step. I will always answer my phone if I am able to and respond to emails as quickly as possible. Both my phones and email are confidential and messages can be left in confidence - please leave your message including your name and details of the best way to contact you. My ethos is one of true compassion which is rooted in my deep respect for every person making this decision to reach out for support. I will not be passing judgement nor will I tell you what to do -I am here to guide and support you to reach the answers and decisions you need for yourself but that may feel too painful, confusing or difficult to work out on your own right now. These are just some examples of areas I can offer support with:

Anxiety, panic attacks, stress or persistent worry
Low self-esteem or confidence
Depression or general emotional overwhelm
ADHD-related challenges
Grief, loss, bereavement
Trauma, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual)
Relationship and family struggles
Coercive control, co-dependency
Identity, purpose, belonging
Work-related concerns: employment, redundancy or retirement
Social anxiety, isolation or feeling disconnected
Compulsive thoughts and behaviours

I will work with you to help you make sense of those difficult feelings, explore those changes which you feel would benefit you, helping you to fulfil your potential. Free Initial Consultation session - Taking that first step into counselling can sometimes feel daunting, so I offer a free initial consultation to help ease that process. It’s simply a chance for us to meet, talk through what’s brought you here, and gently explore whether counselling may be helpful for you. I will also explain how I work and explain in more detail what I can offer you and how we could work together. There’s no pressure to continue beyond this session. Should you feel comfortable moving forward, the consultation also reserves your regular appointment day and time. No referral is needed to contact me. You may be feeling very alone with your thoughts and feelings and unsure of how to move through them - having someone by your side in these times can bring about change quicker than struggling alone.

Want to learn new skills about planting and growing fruit trees, berries, vegetables and herbs?

Greener Growth is holding a series of planting volunteer days with the first two in November.

You’ll be helping plant a Food Forest at Dandelion Farm a Holywell Row near Mildenhall, promoting the growth of local, sustainable produce for the local community.

It’s one of the projects that we’ve supported through our Building Resilience And Nutrition (BRAN) fund set up to support food projects that are working to:

• lift people out of food poverty such as through additional support to help people improve their finance
• give people increased confidence and skills such as growing their own food or making low cost healthy and nutritious meals
• connect with local producers and food retailers to share food and reduce food waste
• ensure the resilience of food projects by developing or expanding their existing offer and upskilling volunteers

BRAN has been created from £90,000 given by Suffolk Public Sector Leaders and is being delivered by West Suffolk Council in partnership with Community Action Suffolk and Suffolk County Council

Thank you to C.C for allowing me to share one persons experience of depression and the effect of counselling. If you relate to any aspect of this post please do reach out for support - counsellors like myself are here for you.

"Depression for me is like a constant painful gnawing chaotic oppressive darkness, an emotional and physical ache so intense that it consumes my mind and body, it ravages me, it feeds off me. I sometimes get a feeling of standing on the edge of a deep crater and a desire to lean forward and just enjoy the sense of weightlessness, of no pain, no noise in my head, no voices telling me how useless I am or how no-one cares or will even notice. My existence is pointless and keeping going hurts.

Depression for me is also like waking up and thinking come on I can do this, today I can get up and open the curtains, today I can answer the phone if it rings or take a shower. Depression ebbs and flows between states within me that have a deafening hold one moment and a detached silence the next. It means that when I don't answer the phone I am gripped by anxiety and can't talk, it means I haven't got the energy to socialise or smile, or eat, or walk. It means I feel as if I can barely breathe. It means I want to sleep but wake up tired.

Counselling gave me a reason to try to find me in the chasm of darkness, it has given me hope that things can change because I am changing. Without the support I am receiving I wouldn't have as many brighter moments as I do at the moment...and they are growing...and the darkness gets smaller. I know it will take time but finally I realise that I am worth that time, that I have the choice that I felt blinded from before and each day I get stronger and can actually say I am living".

Particularly on World Mental Health today - this poem means so much x

Today I said “I’m fine”, not once
But five times altogether
When people asked “how are you?”
Then made small talk of the weather

And so I hid behind my mask
The one I’d worn a while
I set in place my bravest face
And dressed it with a smile

And that was how the day went
All “I’m fine” and talk of rain
Until somebody asked me how I was
Then asked again

They asked if I was truly fine
And I said I was not
And they said they were sorry
That they couldn’t do a lot

But then they sat beside me
Whilst I spoke the truth at last
They listened and they held me
As the tears slipped through my mask

And where before, I’d felt I should
Maintain this brave façade,
I realised there was much to gain
By letting down my guard

See, though my load was still the same
It now was not as heavy
‘Cause sitting and offloading it
Had helped a bit already

Today they asked “how are you?”
And I told them I was fine
‘Til someone saw behind the mask
And asked me one more time

And though they may have felt
That there was little they could do
They’ll never know how much it meant
To tell someone the truth

For those with the gift of speech, words are powerful ways to communicate our feelings and needs. Yet sometimes we can struggle to align our thoughts with our words or find the 'right' word to truly convey our sense of something. Being consciously aware of our words and mindful of what impact they may have on another person requires us to create a space between thought and action. The Sufi poet, Rumi sums this up beautifully for me with his concept of 3 gates...

Our Story

I am a MBACP qualified and approved Psychodynamic Counsellor offering Individual Counselling for Adults. What is Psychodynamic Counselling? Psychodynamic Counselling looks not only at problems in the present but, crucially, at the roots of these problems in the past. Psychodynamic practice aims to help you make sense of your existing situation and of the feelings and thoughts and associated memories that are brought about by this situation. In psychodynamic counselling, feelings, thoughts, images and even dreams can be explored and reflected on. This can help to gain deeper understanding of your emotional patterns of how you relate to yourself and to others. Some patterns may provide positive outcomes whilst others may repeat themselves in later life in a damaging way. Coming to understand this can empower & enable change to take place. How I work I am a caring, empathetic counsellor who is committed to your personal growth and wellbeing. I will not be passing judgement & I will not be shocked as to what you may say. I work in a nondirective way which means I will not force you to confront issues and I will not give you advice. “Together we can explore whatever you wish to talk about confidentially” You will take sessions at your own pace, talk about what you want to talk about and decide whether you wish to further explore issues. I will listen and observe the important therapeutic relationship that develops in our working alliance and use this to reflect together. With insight brings the potential for change. What I can offer you I am a sole practitioner and offer both short term and longer term Individual counselling for adults from ‘The Cabin’ in the garden of my home. I can offer you face to face confidential counselling sessions in a safe, private, counselling room and a friendly, professional approach. No referral is needed to contact me. Once you have contacted me an initial 50 minute consultation session will be offered. No fee is charged for this consultation session & there is no obligation to enter into a counselling contract after this session. I will send you a letter confirming our appointment date and time, map & directions and an outline of what you can expect from the appointment. Please email or call me to arrange an initial consultation.
