Sarah Coe - Individual Counselling

Sarah Coe - Individual Counselling Hello and a warm welcome, I'm Sarah and a counsellor for many years. Hello and a warm welcome, I'm Sarah. Free Initial Consultation offered.

I offer a Free Initial Consultation and I work in all areas such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, low self-confidence, bereavement, stress, relationship issues, OCD & much more. I am an experienced and compassionate counsellor offering one-to-one counselling for adults in a calm, confidential setting—either in person, from my peaceful garden cabin in Bardwell (just 9 miles northeast of Bury S

t Edmunds), or remotely via Microsoft Teams or telephone. Sometimes we all find ourselves struggling through life, facing emotions & feelings, situations & behaviours that we think we have to manage alone. At these times in our lives we just need a bit of space & peace to talk, be heard and work out exactly where we are in our lives & where we want to be. I know picking up the phone or emailing can be daunting and perhaps difficult and that you may have been thinking about it for some time and only now feel able to take that step. I will always answer my phone if I am able to and respond to emails as quickly as possible. Both my phones and email are confidential and messages can be left in confidence - please leave your message including your name and details of the best way to contact you. Perhaps you are facing something specific, or perhaps it feels harder to name? My ethos is one of true compassion which is rooted in my deep respect for every person making this decision to reach out for support. I will not be passing judgement nor will I tell you what to do -I am here to guide and support you to reach the answers and decisions you need for yourself but that may feel too painful, confusing or difficult to work out on your own right now. These are just some examples of areas I can offer support with:

Anxiety, panic attacks, stress or persistent worry
Low self-esteem or confidence
Depression or general emotional overwhelm
ADHD-related challenges
Grief, loss, bereavement
Trauma, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual)
Relationship and family struggles
Coercive control, co-dependency
Identity, purpose, belonging
Work-related concerns: employment, redundancy or retirement
Social anxiety, isolation or feeling disconnected
Compulsive thoughts and behaviours

I will work with you to help you make sense of those difficult feelings, explore those changes which you feel would benefit you, helping you to fulfil your potential. Free Initial Consultation session - Taking that first step into counselling can sometimes feel daunting, so I offer a free initial consultation to help ease that process. It’s simply a chance for us to meet, talk through what’s brought you here, and gently explore whether counselling may be helpful for you. I will also explain how I work and explain in more detail what I can offer you and how we could work together. There’s no pressure to continue beyond this session. Should you feel comfortable moving forward, the consultation also reserves your regular appointment day and time. No referral is needed to contact me. You may be feeling very alone with your thoughts and feelings and unsure of how to move through them - having someone by your side in these times can bring about change quicker than struggling alone.

Here's another Myth vs Reality 🧐

Myth: A therapist’s job is to give advice and "fix" my problems. 🛠️

Reality: You are the expert on your own life.

My role isn’t to tell you what to do, but to act as a professional guide. Together, we explore your thoughts, identify patterns, and uncover the tools you already have to find your own solutions.
Counselling is a collaborative journey. In our work together I provide the map and the compass, but you’re the one behind the wheel. 🧭🚗

"Myth vs. Reality"
Myth: You have to be "in crisis" to start therapy.
Reality: Therapy is for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, manage daily stress, or simply have a dedicated space to talk. 🗣️✨

Just like you don’t wait for a broken bone to see a doctor, preventive mental health care is just as important.

✨ Grief has a way of bending time.

I don't know about you, but I think, and feel
that grief doesn’t move in a straight line, and it certainly doesn’t stay politely in the present. It drifts. It loops. It pulls us into memories we thought had settled, shakes something loose in the middle of an ordinary day, or suddenly reminds us of a future that will look different now.

Some moments bring a rush of longing for what was.
Others highlight the weight of what is.
And sometimes it’s the ache of what will never be that catches us off guard.
None of these moments mean we’re “back at the beginning.”
They’re simply part of loving someone who isn’t here in the same way anymore.

If your grief has been time‑travelling lately into the past, the present, or the imagined future, I hope you can meet both it and yourself with gentleness. There is no right pace. No correct direction. Just the ongoing, human work of carrying love in a world that keeps moving.

Feeling like you don’t quite "fit in" is one of the loneliest experiences there is.
Whether it’s in social circles, at work, or even within your own family, the pressure to mask who you are just to feel accepted can be exhausting - a bit like playing a role in a play where you never quite learned the script. Often it comes with a fear that if we showed our true selves, we’d be "too much" or "not enough."
Remember that what we feel about something isn't always the reality of a situation - you may in fact be accepted by those you care about but are worried to find out if that's true in case you are rejected, humiliated or dismissed. Strengthening our our sense of self means building up our our self worth, our confidence and our own acceptance...

So if you’re feeling "on the outside" today here's a few things to keep to in mind
🌱 Your worth isn't defined by how well you blend in.
🌱 The right people will value your authentic self, not the version you think they want.
🌱 Belonging starts with accepting yourself, even the parts you try to hide.

It takes immense courage to stop performing and start just being but you don't have to navigate that journey alone x

The struggle to keep up an external image for the world as a way to protect your true self can be exhausting and lonely. Through my work with clients we can gently begin to allow the true inner self to feel safe enough to show itself and build confidence and self esteem and live a more authentic you.

This poem captures the essence of both these states ; the trapped authentic self starting to break through the external everyday self that masks it...

The mask is heavy, forged in lead,
A weary weight that wears me thin.
I guard the things I’ve never said
To keep the world from peering in.

But in this fort of stone and gate,
The air is stagnant, cold, and grey.
I buckle underneath the weight
And push the world too far away.

The shield has kept the spirit whole
And saved me from the stinging blow,
But there’s a winter in my soul
Where only I can ever go.

Yet somewhere in the frozen deep,
A quiet light begins to wake.
The promises I meant to keep
Are stronger than the parts that break.

Anon.

When anxiety feels like it’s taking over, even the smallest tasks can feel like climbing a mountain. 🏔️
If your mind is racing or your chest feels tight today, please know you’re not alone. In the UK, millions of people are navigating these same feelings, and it’s okay to admit that things are tough right now.
Here is your gentle reminder to:
✨ Exhale. Try to make your out-breath longer than your in-breath.
✨ Ground yourself. Find three things you can see and two things you can hear.
✨ Be kind. You wouldn't judge a friend for feeling this way; try to offer that same grace to yourself.
Healing isn't a straight line, and some days are just about catching your breath. That is enough. 🌿

Welcome 2026 ❤️and some inspiring words from Alecia Beth Moore (the singer songwriter P!nk)

" I know that 2026 is going to be better because that is the choice that I have made. I hope and pray every person can make that wish, have that choice. I know that isn’t a reality for some. I will work this year to help preserve the choices of others to make for themselves and their families and this very pursuit of happiness.
Let’s do better for ourselves and for others.
Let’s not be afraid to take care of ourselves and others.
I choose joy and I leave behind the hurt.
I’m going to choose positive thoughts over negative ones.
And I’m going to rage against the dying of the light. I’m going to reclaim my wild.
And I’m going to keep searching for the light, even as I experience the darkness. upwards as my father used to say. Happy new year and may you experience more joy than sorrow, more sunshine than rain, more love than hatred. Let’s shed that old snake skin. And find our horsepower "

Our Story

I am a MBACP qualified and approved Psychodynamic Counsellor offering Individual Counselling for Adults. What is Psychodynamic Counselling? Psychodynamic Counselling looks not only at problems in the present but, crucially, at the roots of these problems in the past. Psychodynamic practice aims to help you make sense of your existing situation and of the feelings and thoughts and associated memories that are brought about by this situation. In psychodynamic counselling, feelings, thoughts, images and even dreams can be explored and reflected on. This can help to gain deeper understanding of your emotional patterns of how you relate to yourself and to others. Some patterns may provide positive outcomes whilst others may repeat themselves in later life in a damaging way. Coming to understand this can empower & enable change to take place. How I work I am a caring, empathetic counsellor who is committed to your personal growth and wellbeing. I will not be passing judgement & I will not be shocked as to what you may say. I work in a nondirective way which means I will not force you to confront issues and I will not give you advice. “Together we can explore whatever you wish to talk about confidentially” You will take sessions at your own pace, talk about what you want to talk about and decide whether you wish to further explore issues. I will listen and observe the important therapeutic relationship that develops in our working alliance and use this to reflect together. With insight brings the potential for change. What I can offer you I am a sole practitioner and offer both short term and longer term Individual counselling for adults from ‘The Cabin’ in the garden of my home. I can offer you face to face confidential counselling sessions in a safe, private, counselling room and a friendly, professional approach. No referral is needed to contact me. Once you have contacted me an initial 50 minute consultation session will be offered. No fee is charged for this consultation session & there is no obligation to enter into a counselling contract after this session. I will send you a letter confirming our appointment date and time, map & directions and an outline of what you can expect from the appointment. Please email or call me to arrange an initial consultation.
