Nordic Walking East Anglia

Nordic Walking East Anglia Katharine and Mary run regular walks and Beginners’ workshops that are sociable and fun. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF NORDIC WALKING? Social and fun

Nordic Walking is the fastest growing form of fitness in the UK and is a technique of walking with specially designed Nordic Walking Poles, derived from cross country skiing. It can be adapted to be enjoyed by a wide range of people regardless of fitness level, age or gender. Weight Loss You can burn up to 46% more calories than with ordinary walking by using the poles. By spreading the effort acr

oss 90% of your skeletal muscles you do not perceive the increased effort. Tone your upper arms and trim your waist. Posture and Tension: The technique emphasises a good posture and involves rotating the shoulders. This helps you release tension in the neck and shoulders and relearn the best posture for your body. Strengthen your back and abdominal muscles. Reduce the impact on the joints. The poles bear the impact of walking, not your joints. Being a weight bearing exercise, it is excellent for bone health.

If you’re curious about Nordic walking but still not quite sure what it actually is, you’re not alone.

It’s one of the most common things I hear before a beginners workshop. People are interested, but a bit unsure, and often don’t want to ask in case they sound daft.

That’s exactly why I recorded this short podcast episode: “What is Nordic walking?”

https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/what-is-nordic-walking-with-vicky-welsh/id1557030616?i=1000513496493

It explains how it works, what the poles actually do, and why it’s so much more than just a walk with poles.

It’s a really easy way to get a feel for it before you come along, and to get to know me a little bit too.

Because I promise… I’m very approachable 😊

If you’ve got questions after listening, just drop me a message. I’m happy to have a chat.

And if you’re sitting on the fence about the beginners workshop, this might just give you the nudge you need.

I regularly get asked ‘why the curved poles’? Expert Karen could not have explained it better. Maximum power, maximum comfort, I wouldn’t be without mine.

Straight poles work brilliantly. Curved poles go one step further.

If you already love Nordic walking, the Exel Curve is where things get interesting. The curved shaft stays firmer under load, so more of your effort turns into forward drive instead of flex. Add 100 percent carbon, and the walk feels smoother, quieter, and more controlled from the first push.

This is not about replacing straight poles. It is about progression. Better power transfer. Cleaner rhythm. More natural arm movement. Less vibration over longer distances.

The design comes from cross-country ski engineering, where efficiency across thousands of steps matters. Many walkers notice the difference quickly, especially when training more often or walking further.

If you are curious why curve geometry changes how Nordic walking feels, the latest blog explains it clearly and simply.
