Flying the flag for Music Therapy!
Last Friday I had the opportunity to share the benefits of Music Therapy in adult mental health at the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Eastern Region Conference. This was a presentation using a service evaluation and report written by me, whilst working as a music therapist in an acute mental health setting. One of the doctors was keen that this be shared and recognised by other health professionals. Here is the team that put it together!

I had a great time this week with a highly experienced Music Therapy colleague visiting a local university. We delivered a presentation and workshop for trainee counsellors, exploring how Music Therapy can provide clients with a non-verbal means of expression. The trainees were invited to choose a musical instrument and to have conversations and interact with the group, through them. During this there was a marked shift in curiosity as trainees recognised how their instrument choices and ways of playing and interacting with other members of the group arose from unconscious processes. The parallels and differences between talking therapies and music therapy were explored as well as how a music therapist seeks to build a therapeutic relationship with a client through the music in a creative, non-verbal way.

Welcome to my Music Therapy practice based in Suffolk and beyond. I work both with individual clients and groups. I invite enquiries from organisations who recognise the value of including Music Therapy as an important part their programme of care for clients. Music Therapy is an evidence-based intervention as an Allied Health Profession. As a Music Therapist I am qualified with an MA degree in Music Therapy and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Please contact me to find out how my Music Therapy practice can provide a therapeutic space for you, family member or someone close to you. Every person's experience of Music Therapy is unique. My approach is client-centred as I seek to support each individual or client group. I encourage a collaborative therapeutic relationship through musical improvisation, listening, talking and composing.
Often a session will involve exploring emotions or feelings through sound. For some people, this nonverbal communication provides a creative and safe place to experiencing parts of themselves in a different way.
