Last of two lovely days at the wellbeing fair this weekend 🌿

It’s been such a positive weekend meeting so many people from the local community, alongside other practitioners and organisations doing meaningful work around wellbeing and mental health.

Many people know me through Katie Malley Therapy and the counselling and therapeutic support I offer, but alongside this I also run Katie Malley Training & Consultancy.

Through this work I support organisations working with children and young people to become physically and psychologically safer, drawing on my background in school leadership, safeguarding, mental health and trauma informed practice.

Whether I’m working therapeutically with individuals or training and supporting professionals, the heart of my work is always the same: helping create safer, more connected and compassionate spaces where people can thrive.

Thank you to everyone who came over for a chat this weekend. I’ve loved the conversations, connections and sense of community across both days 💚

A lovely way to finish Day 2 of the wellbeing fair this weekend.

I ran a giveaway on my stall and here I am drawing the first and second place winners at the end of the event. Thank you to everyone who entered and to all the people who stopped by across the two days for conversations, support and connection.

This weekend has been such a positive experience. I’ve met parents, professionals, fellow therapists and members of the local community, all with a shared interest in wellbeing, mental health and compassionate support.

Alongside my training and consultancy work, it was also really special to share more about my counselling and psychotherapy practice and the wider wellbeing work I offer.

Congratulations to the winners and thank you again to everyone who visited the stall.

As Mental Health Awareness Week comes towards the end, it feels like a good reminder that supporting mental health is not something that only happens for one week a year.

It lives in our relationships, our communities, the spaces we create and the way we show up for ourselves and each other every day.

This year’s focus on taking action is important because small actions really do matter. Reaching out. Slowing down. Checking in. Creating safer spaces. Asking for help. Offering support. Helping people feel less alone.

Over the weekend I’ll be at the Kokoro Wellbeing Festival in Ramsbottom and would love for people to come and say hello if you’re there. 💚

These kinds of community spaces can be such an important reminder that wellbeing is not about perfection. It is about connection, support, movement, rest, conversation and feeling part of something.

Wishing everyone a gentle weekend and a reminder that your mental health matters every week, not just this one.

A lot of people are carrying more than others realise.

Children trying to hold it together in school. Parents running on empty. Professionals supporting everyone else while neglecting their own wellbeing.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, there can sometimes be pressure to say the “right” things about mental health. But meaningful support is often much quieter than that.

It is found in relationships. In emotionally safe environments.
In adults who stay curious instead of reactive. In communities where people feel seen rather than judged. In moments of co-regulation, compassion and connection.

Taking action for mental health does not have to be complicated.

Sometimes it is simply:

• checking in with someone properly
• creating space to talk
• reducing shame
• noticing signs of overwhelm earlier
• offering support without judgement
• helping people feel less alone

Small actions matter because people matter. 💚

Lovely evening with the brilliant people at Ramsbottom Running Club supporting Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

I donated a little raffle prize with a cup, pen and a free sound bath session, and spent the evening chatting, connecting and soaking up the community spirit. There was coffee, cake, plenty of laughs, and a few dogs too… including Rudi, who very much enjoyed himself 🐾

A reminder that movement, connection, fresh air and community all play such an important role in our wellbeing.

Get me going to run club haha 🏃‍♀️☕🐶

Following on from yesterday’s post for Mental Health Awareness Week, I’ve been thinking about how often people believe they need to “earn” rest, support or compassion.

So many adults and children are functioning in survival mode while still appearing capable on the outside. They keep going, keep coping, keep showing up for everyone else, often without recognising how overwhelmed they really are.

Taking action for mental health is not always about doing more. Sometimes it is about noticing when our nervous systems are asking for something different.

Slowing down.
Taking breaks.
Saying no without guilt.
Asking for help.
Connecting with safe people.
Stepping outside for air and movement.
Giving ourselves permission not to carry everything alone.

These things matter.

Mental wellbeing is not built through pressure or perfection. It grows through safety, connection, regulation and support.

A gentle reminder today that you are allowed to be human too. 💚

It’s SATs week, and for many children this can bring pressure, worry and big feelings, not just for them, but for parents too.

While SATs are one small snapshot of learning, they do not measure your child’s worth, personality, creativity, kindness or potential. Children need reassurance of that now more than ever.

Here are 5 simple but important ways parents can support children during SATs week:

1️⃣ Keep routines calm and predictable
Simple routines help children feel safe and regulated. Try to keep mornings steady, evenings calm and avoid overloading the week where possible.

2️⃣ Focus on effort, not outcomes
Children need to know they are valued for who they are, not just their scores. Praise their perseverance, courage and hard work rather than focusing only on results.

3️⃣ Protect sleep, food and downtime
A regulated nervous system supports learning far more effectively than pressure does. Rest, movement, hydration and opportunities to decompress really matter.

4️⃣ Notice behaviour as communication
Some children may become emotional, withdrawn, irritable or unsettled this week. Often this is stress showing itself, not “bad behaviour.” Responding with reassurance and co-regulation helps far more than criticism.

5️⃣ Remind them they are more than a test. SATs do not define intelligence, success or future potential. Children need consistent reminders that they are loved and accepted exactly as they are.

For some children SATs week will feel manageable. For others it may feel overwhelming. Compassion, connection and emotional safety make a huge difference. 💚

💚Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that mental health is part of being human.

We all need spaces where we feel safe, heard and connected. Sometimes that starts with a conversation. Sometimes it starts with rest. Sometimes it starts with simply knowing we are not alone.

This year’s theme is Action, and that feels incredibly important. Awareness matters, but meaningful change also comes from the actions we take every day to support ourselves and each other. Sometimes those actions are small, but they still count.

This is one of the reasons I do the work I do. Whether through therapy, safeguarding, training, sensory support or working with children, adults and professionals, it always comes back to connection, safety and relationships.

This week I’ll also be taking action out in the community to support mental health awareness. I’ll be at the Kokoro Festival in Ramsbottom on 16th & 17th May, and also heading down to a local run club on Tuesday evening to support mental health awareness through movement, connection and community.

Be gentle with yourself this week. Check in with someone you care about. Reach out if you need support. Small actions and small moments of connection really do matter. 💚

There’s something really special about taking 90 minutes just for you… to slow down, soften, and let your whole system settle.

My May Sound Bath is on Thursday 21st May at 7pm, and I’d love you to join me.

This session is a full 90-minute immersion using sound, vibration and stillness to support deep rest, regulation and gentle reset. It’s a space to step out of the noise of everyday life and come back to yourself.

A small update to share… from May, the price for the 90-minute sound bath will be £25. This reflects the depth and length of the session, and allows me to continue holding these spaces in a sustainable way.

If you’ve been meaning to come along, this is a beautiful place to start.

Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.

👶🏻Working in EYFS means you are constantly attuned to others.👶🏽

You are noticing small changes in behaviour, holding children’s emotional needs, supporting families, and often responding to safeguarding concerns at the same time. It asks a lot of you, both professionally and emotionally.

What is often missing is a space for you.

A space to pause and think about what you are holding. A space to reflect on the quieter moments that stay with you. A space where you don’t have to carry decisions on your own.

The EYFS framework is clear about this need. It states that providers must put appropriate arrangements in place for the supervision of staff who have contact with children and families. Effective supervision should offer support, coaching and training, promote the interests of children, and foster a culture of mutual support, teamwork and continuous improvement.

Reflective supervision offers a way to do this well.

It is not about judgement or performance. It is about giving you time to process, to make sense of your experiences, and to feel supported in the work you do every day.

In EYFS especially, where relationships are at the centre of everything, having that space matters. It helps you stay grounded, thoughtful and connected to your practice.

Whether it is monthly, half termly or termly, having a consistent, confidential space can make a real difference over time.

I am currently putting supervision agreements in place for the next academic year. If you are thinking about support for your team, you are welcome to get in touch.
