Last year, Suzanne Hall’s husband, Billy, was cared for at Bury Hospice.
Suzanne said: “Over the weeks, Billy, our family, and I built a warm, trusting relationship with the incredible staff. Their kindness, dignity, and gentleness were unlike anything I had ever witnessed. They always greeted Billy with warmth, explained every step of his care, and protected his privacy with such respect. He longed to see our fur baby, Scruff - and when the staff told us Scruff was welcome, it lifted Billy’s spirits instantly. Scruff became a daily visitor, curling up beside him and sleeping the days away with his daddy. On May 24th, my beautiful warrior took his last breath. Scruff was curled up on his bed, and my Mum, Dad, sister and I held his hands as he slipped away. I tell everyone that the staff at Bury Hospice are angels on earth - because they truly are.”
Suzanne is organising a charity fundraiser – A Night for Billy - which is taking place at Olive Restaurant on Sunday, May 17th between 5pm and 10pm. Tickets cost £10 (including entertainment and food) and are available online at: https://donorbox.org/events/932545/steps/choose_tickets

This week is Dying Matters week - it's all about encouraging conversations about death and dying 🌻

At Bury Hospice, we see first-hand how important it is to be able to open up, and talk about dying with your loved ones or our team of nurses and healthcare assistants. It is such a comfort and relief to know that your wishes, or those of your loved ones are heard and understood.

Dying Matters is a national campaign led by Hospice UK. For more information and resources, visit their website: https://www.hospiceuk.org/our-campaigns/dying-matters

For nearly 35 years Bury Hospice has provided free palliative and end-of-life care to people in the local community with a life-limiting illness.
The hospice has commissioned a handcrafted and unique Sunflower by the talented team at the British Ironworks that can be dedicated in memory of someone special, or can be purchased to show support for the work the Hospice does for patients and their families across Bury. Anyone can dedicate a flower, you don’t have to have experienced our care first hand at the hospice.
Memories stay with us forever and we hope our Sunflower Appeal will help you remember and celebrate the lives of someone special. Every flower tells a personal story, so whether you are making a dedication in memory of a loved one or as a way of supporting the hospice, every donation will make a difference to people in our local community.
We would like to invite you to join us in remembering your loved one through our Sunflower Appeal.
All of the flowers dedicated will be on display around the pond within the grounds of the hospice from July 31st until Friday, August 21st, where you will be able to view them. You will also receive the flower as a colourful keepsake which you will be able to collect after the display has ended.
Each Sunflower is available for a minimum donation of £25. If you dedicate two Sunflowers, we can offer a special discount of £40 for both. Sunflowers can be dedicated online at https://sunflowerappeal2026.dedicationpage.org/ or by calling the fundraising office on 0161 797 1748. Everyone who dedicates a flower will also receive a personalised dedication card.

Bury Hospice staged its biggest annual fundraiser, Strictly Best Foot Forward on Saturday, April 18th at Holy Cross College.
In front of a star studded judging panel, 14 couples danced their hearts out to raise money for the hospice. Each couple had their own reasons for taking part, many of whom had experienced the amazing care and support provided by Bury Hospice.
The event was led by fundraising volunteer, Deborah Lisle and her fabulous Strictly team. Each year the glamorous competition helps to raise thousands of pounds to help fund care for patients and their families across Bury.
After 12 weeks of rehearsals the dance couples performed in front of a panel of celebrity judges including Sally Carman-Duttine, Vicky Myres and Erin Shanagher, alongside professional dance teachers Alan Newman and Alison Park.
The champions on the night were Nicola Reynolds and Daniel Wood who lifted the glitterball trophy to be crowned winners of Strictly Best Foot Forward 2026.
This year’s annual Strictly-style contest has raised an incredible £103,000 – including a donation of £20,000, which was made on the night by a mystery donor. It has now been revealed that one of the dance couples, Corin and Tricia Dalby, of Box Power CIC made the generous donation through their charitable foundation fund. We would like to say a huge thank you to Corin and Tricia, and to everyone involved in this year’s event.
Follow our social media and look out for our recruitment campaign to enlist our next dance troop to compete in Strictly Best Foot Forward 2027.
