BROWNIES VISIT

Residents welcomed the Bushey
Brownies ,their leaders and family members to Bushey House on Sunday . The Brownie group from Bushey Synagogue, visit us yearly on their Mitzvah day , where they sing for our residents and then come and talk to them all and present little gifts they have made . This visit is always a hugely popular activity and our residents really love to meet the children and hear them sing .

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Last week two of our residents celebrated birthdays on the same day . Both Kathleen and Michael enjoyed singing and birthday cakes with all the other residents and staff and said how much they had enjoyed their special days .

Yesterday we had Julie Churchouse from Alzheimer's Society come into Bushey House Beaumont Care Home to delivery a Dementia Friends session. This is their new session which was really interesting and informative.

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends initiative is all about increasing people’s understanding of dementia and inspiring everyone to make a difference for people affected by the condition in their communities. If you didn't make it this time, we will try and arrange another one, just let us know if you would like to come.

At the same time we took delivery of our new Dementia empathy dolls, Johan and Nelly. Our dementia champion Gail, immediately made them feel at home!

Concert in Bushey House with one of our residents' favourite performer, David Brierley. 🎼🎵🎶🎙🎸

Listening to music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness, and memory. Our residents enjoy singing along with David as they hear familiar songs sang by their known artists before. 👌

Last Friday we had the pleasure of hosting St Margaret's School, Bushey here at Bushey House Beaumont Care Home.

The school were honouring St Margaret with a "Day of Giving Back" and some of their pupils came to give a musical recital for our residents. One of the children had even baked home made cookies for our residents! Such a special and thoughtful thing to do.

It was a wonderful occasion and the standard of musicianship was outstanding. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the pupils and staff at St Margaret's School, Bushey who came to visit. We hope it won't be too long until you come to Bushey House Beaumont Care Home again.

COFFEE WITH THE MANAGER

Residents enjoyed a coffee morning with our General Manager, Mary Jane , on Tuesday .

We have regular residents meetings at Bushey House , but GM Mary Jane wanted to introduce a more informal setting ,for the residents to chat to her and ask any questions they may have . We will be doing a monthly Coffee Morning with the Manager going foward ,which all the residents are really pleased about . Residents felt it was nice to meet in a smaller group and to have a chance to chat ,and really appreciated this new monthly activity that Mary Jane has put in place .

Dementia Friends
We would like to invite members of our community in the Parish of Bushey and the surrounding areas to our Dementia Friends session this Thursday. If you would like to become a dementia friend, please come along and learn about the different types of dementia and how you can Support someone living with it. Keep calm and play a game. 😊

Our residents here in Bushey House enjoyed the sunny afternoon playing "Articulate Game" which was led by our Activities Coordinator, Tina. Everyone possess insight, knowledge, and wisdom, bringing them confidence and freedom as they engage in this brain exercise activity. 👏👏👏

CHRISTMAS CAKE COMPETITION

Residents enjoyed an arts and crafts activity last week,drawing a design for our Christmas cake competition . Bushey House will be submitting our entry to the Barchester Christmas cake competition where the cake will be made by our Head Chef Avni . Our residents all put Foward a different design and Avni will choose the winner, then create his cake from the design . We will pick the winner this week and then show the design and the finished cake before the competition in December .

Today our Home Services Advisor, Sarah Pratt went out into the Bushey Community to deliver invites for our Dementia Friends session next Thursday 20th November at 3:00 pm as well as our Parkinson's Pals Café leaflet. She was overwhelmed by the community spirit in Bushey and how everyone was happy to promote and pass on our free events. Becca Fatherly, Communications Manager at Mencap Watford was lovely to talk to and there will definitely be some collaborations we can work with.

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

🏅 Silver Success for Hugh Myddelton at Enfield in Bloom 2025 🌸

We’re happy to share that Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in won Silver in the Best Communal Gardens category at the Enfield in Bloom 2025.

The team proudly received their certificate from the Mayor of Enfield, Margaret Greer, at the Chickenshed Theatre – a joyful moment for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who helped make the gardens so beautiful this year, especially volunteer Pat and Resident Ambassador Rosa.

Jade Shea, General Manager at the home, said: “Our garden is not just a beautiful space it’s a source of comfort, activity and pride for everyone here. This award belongs to our entire community who have worked so hard to make it flourish.”

The Enfield in Bloom competition, held annually, honours the best in gardening and environmental efforts across the borough.

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”
