I’ve been blessed this week by being able to attend THREE classes with this week, which have transformed my energy and vitality. I’ve been as jittery as a boxing hare for a while (full moon, + rising awareness + kids + life) but the combo of opening up with back bends with an emphasis on the out breath has been transformational, then today the phenomenal ‘emotional stability’ series. In yogic terms, it’s a very fancy CALM THE F@CK DOWN KATE in the kindest, most profound terms.
Left to my own devices, as far as yoga goes, I’d mostly be rolling around on the floor connecting with my inner sensations and tripping out into other universes. The soft, feminine vibe is my thing, so it’s ironic that Lisa is by far my longest-time teacher, 15 years or so on and off. She teaches Iyengar Yoga, a deeply male, hierarchical method, which to be honest, I often struggle with (rules, instructions, hierarchy, correct method and so on) BUT, it takes me to expanded edges where I would not otherwise go. Exploring the softness in strength, the surrender in the hard stuff and developing the focus and rigour I need. Plus, my posture is getting better as I am ageing, and will continue to do so.
The feminine and the male practices create balance, one with the other.
I would far rather have shared a fancy picture of me hanging upside down from the wall like a bat, as I was earlier in the session, but this less-insta-ready version will have to do.
I am so grateful for Lisa’s kindness, patience, expertise, fluidity and knowledge. You’re a bloody legend dol 😍
