When I was a kid, the narrative seemed to be… boy meets girl, they get married, cue some fluffy wording about the mans special seed 🙄🙄they have a baby and that’s it

WELL, thank goodness we have moved on a bit since then. The journey to parenthood is way more complex than that for so many, whether it’s your sexual orientation, your fertility or your relationship status

The LGBQT+ community is a huge part of this incredible village of parents.

In my classes all I see is parents… whether you are Mummy and Daddy, just Mummy, Mummy and Mama, just Daddy, Daddy and Daddy… the list goes on and of course often extends to Grandparents and wider family too

It is so important to me in classes that you feel safe, there is no judgement, you can talk openly, you can be unapologetically yourself and you are supported and celebrated!

There is still work to be done, I myself am ALWAYS learning, I know it’s not always easy in a world that isn’t always kind. But I will always be here championing all parents and it felt especially important to me to acknowledge and celebrate pride.

As a Mama, my kids are being taught that you can love whoever you want to! And to treat people with kindness (thanks Mr Styles ❤️) I feel inspired regularly by the fierce love and pride I have witnessed in the last 4.5 years

In the end… LOVE WINS

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride month everyone 🌈

Hello June!

I can’t quite believe he’s June (certainly can’t tell with this weather!)

June is one of my fave months, the long light evenings, the promise of summer on the way!

I have an exciting and busy month ahead.

I’m looking forward to seeing lots of friends and family over the upcoming long weekend.

It is my 9th wedding anniversary is on the summer solstice (21st) ♥️

I’m going to see Billie Eilish at The O2 - I will totally be the oldest person there but I don’t care! 🤣

I am also blocking out Glastonbury weekend so I can watch it all on the TV and get extremely jealous about not being there!

And of course another busy and fun term of classes starts in June! Who’s expecting a baby? Any first birthdays? What are you all up to?!

♥️ CLASS SPOTLIGHT ~ ME & MY NEWBORN ♥️

At The Mummas Village we pride ourselves on offering age appropriate baby classes. Newborn babies don’t need baby classes, but their parents do! For that reason this course is designed for you more than your baby and is perfectly suited to the early days of parenthood.

The course will fill you with knowledge, support and confidence together with giving you the opportunity to share experiences with other new mums and their babies.
We know that babies under 3 months often just want to sleep, feed and cuddle. We also know that in those first few overwhelming weeks and months, you need support and reassurance that you are doing an amazing job, together with wanting to meet others at the same stage of parenthood and build that all important village around you.

This class is the perfect place for all of that; giving you a postnatal survival toolkit to help you navigate those early months of motherhood with judgement free information on topics such as colic, reflux, settling techniques, infant sleep, postnatal wellbeing, weaning and so much more.

All delivered in a relaxed, supportive environment with no expectation on your baby to ‘participate’, and a good dose of humour…and cake! It really is the perfect class for new mums whether it’s your first or fifth baby.

We look forward to meeting you and your newborn soon!

We have Newborn classes starting very soon in the following locations:

The next course in Byfleet starts Friday 17th June!

That’s a wrap for this term!

Thank you to all my gorge families that have joined me this term.

I am so grateful to each and every one of you or hanging out with me! We have had a brilliant few weeks in class!

I’ve watched babies that I’ve known since newborn, start to crawl, get stuck in to music and mess, find their voices… those excited squeals are my fave 😍 We also had some royal jubilee themed fun this term

It’s been the first ‘Me and My Newborn’ in a while too… we have laughed, we have cried, I have sworn too much and made Inappropriate jokes - but it has been a joy being in a room of women supporting each other through the s**t bits and simultaneously celebrating with each other in the small wins with newborns and toddlers 💪

I meet incredible wonder women on a weekly basis (and a few awesome Dads, gorgeous Grandparents and beyond too!)

You all rock!

See lots of you in June

We are nearing the end of there has been some amazing content over including some wonderful positive c-section stories, defo check those out.

I haven’t been as vocal as I have in the past on this, I’ve shared both my c-section stories before. However I have weirdly built up some resentment that there still needs to be an ‘awareness day’ for something that to me seems super normal and everyday - I wonder if anyone else feels the same?

That being said… I think that’s because I have dealt with my demons on this. I have had those conversations over and over, I have been in situations where I’ve felt judged or offended before - comments about being ‘too posh to push’ or suggesting ‘oh well at least your va**na is in tact’

It wasn’t always so straight forward in my mind as it is now. I wasn’t always comfortable with being a ‘c-section Mum’.

When I think about the 29 year old me that had a traumatic induction/emergency c-section with my first baby, it felt shocking, unexpected and knocked me for six…I remember why the awareness day is needed.

The post natal period with my first baby was filled with feelings of ‘failure’ and disappointment that manifested themselves in anxiety and some PTSD that left me struggling to sleep because I going over my birth in my head. It took me such a long time to process and come to terms with it all. That in part is most certainly down to this taboo that still surrounds a caesarean - why did I think I’d failed?! You can’t fail at giving birth!

So we must keep talking about abdominal birth, as much as it pi**es me off that this taboo is still a thing! 😂😂

Things that helped me were:

- talking with my husband and Mum about how I felt
- Attending the wonderful birth reflections service at St Peter’s to go over my birth and understand what happened much more clearly
- And ironically… having another c-section! My second baby was born by planned c-section and it was the most wonderful and healing experience (I will re-share my story on that!)

However you give birth… you ARE amazing! I’m so proud of both my births now and that is a great place to be ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Baby Massage is for you and your baby!

We pride ourselves at The Mummas Village on creating a wonderful safe space for you and your baby during the 4th trimester and those first few months of getting to know your baby and getting in the swing of things!

You can start with Me and My Newborn or Baby Massage, both courses are a gentle first step into classes, there is no pressure on you or your baby and it is a great way to get into a rhythm of getting out the door with a baby… which we all know is a mass operation (let’s not even talk about the last minute ‘poonami’s when you’re running late!)

Our Baby Massage course has a bit of everything!

♥️ You will learn a full body routine including colic massage
♥️ We add in some lovely songs and rhymes
♥️ We gently introduce some baby yoga and sensory play towards the end of the course
♥️ The course is specifically designed for your baby’s age and developmental stage
♥️ And most importantly, it’s an opportunity to get to a class and meet likeminded parents at the same stage as you. We celebrate the small wins, the milestones and the good days! And support each other through the s**tty tough days when everything is getting on top of you.
♥️ It is a safe and friendly space that is judgement free and supportive

The next course starts in Hersham next Thursday! You can book your space via the website, or contact Lindsay with any questions! Lindsay@themummasvillage.co.uk
