Farewell, Printer – Hello, Planet! 🌍🖨️
After over a decade of loyal service (and jammed paper trays), we’ve finally parted ways with our beloved printer from Premier Copier Solutions Ltd. Huge thanks to Andrew Massey for being our print whisperer all these years!
Why the breakup? Blame the government (lovingly) – they’re pushing for greener, leaner operations, and we’re embracing it. Village Services is now piloting a digital platform to keep families—whether in Canada, Brussels, LA, Mexico, or just very far from Caerleon—in the loop with real-time updates.
Mostly, it’s going swimmingly... except when the internet decided to take a nap yesterday afternoon. That was fun. Big love to our clients, families, and heroic team for surviving the blip with patience, humour, and only mild panic.
Onward to a paperless future—with fewer tantrums from the printer and more smiles from the planet! 🌱💻

🦢 Ode to Our Honk-tastic Hero: Rachel! 🎂
A Village Services Birthday Poem
When the skies turned grey and the winds blew rough,
And our gaggle was flapping, feeling quite gruff,
In swooped Rachel, calm and wise,
With tea in her hand and stars in her eyes.
She didn’t squawk, she didn’t shout,
She simply knew what she was about.
With a social care touch, so gentle and neat,
She turned chaos to calm—now that’s no small feat!
From Pontypool lanes to Cwmbrân’s green,
She’s the kindest manager we’ve ever seen.
She brewed her tea with mystical leaves,
And birds came down from nearby eaves.
They perched on her hand, they pecked at her cake,
Even pigeons queued up for goodness’ sake!
Her knowledge? Vast. Her hugs? Sublime.
Her spreadsheets? Done ahead of time.
She flew with the gaggle, not above nor below,
Just side by side, in perfect flow.
Now she leads with grace and flair,
With biscuits stocked and a comfy chair.
So honk your horns and flap your wings,
Let’s celebrate the joy she brings!
From all of us in this feathered crew,
We’re so lucky to have a boss like you.
🎉 Happy Birthday, Rachel! 🎉
May your tea be strong, your cake be sweet,
And your inbox forever stay in retreat!

Birthday Wishes to Sue and Sally
Frontline stars of Village Services Caerleon’s heart
In Caerleon’s lanes where kindness flows,
Two birthday stars the village knows.
Sue and Sally, hearts so wide,
With care and grace they stand with pride.
Sue, with plans both sharp and neat,
Knows every wardrobe, every treat.
Meal times sparkle with her flair,
Each plate prepared with love and care.
Her method shines, her calm prevails,
She steers the ship through storm and gales.
Sally beams—a dazzling light,
Her smile alone makes wrongs feel right.
She lifts the room with gentle cheer,
And brings assurance far and near.
Her laughter heals, her presence warms,
She’s sunshine wrapped in human form.
Together they’re a perfect pair,
With patience rare beyond compare.
Even Asclepius might concede,
They’ve got more grace than gods indeed!
To clients, colleagues, friends alike,
They bring a joy no words can strike.
Rejuvenation, soul and skin,
They help the healing deep within.
So raise a toast, let voices sing,
For Sue and Sally—joy they bring!
Two birthday queens, our pride, our gold,
With hearts so big and spirits bold.

Staying hydrated

Tips to help you stay hydrated with healthier drinks in this hot weather.

Do
Drink regularly throughout the day

Swap sugary drinks for diet, sugar-free or no-added-sugar drinks

Adults can choose lower-fat milk, such as semi-skimmed, 1% fat or skimmed milk and unsweetened plant-based drinks

Limit fruit juice and smoothies to a maximum of one small glass (150ml) a day and drink with a meal, as they're high in sugar

Check nutrition labels on drinks – look for drinks with green or amber colour-coded labels

drink extra fluids if you've been sweating from physical activity, or if you're unwell – water is the best way to replace lost fluids

dilute squash drinks or cordials well to reduce the sugar content

Drink caffeine in moderation – some people are more sensitive to caffeine than others, depending on how much they drink and how often. Check the label for drinks that are high in caffeine.

If you don't like the taste of water, try sparkling water, no added sugar squash, or add a slice of lemon or lime

Don’t
Do not have drinks that are high in sugar too often – they're higher in calories, and the sugar can damage your teeth

Do not have more than 200mg of caffeine a day if you're pregnant – this could increase the risk of miscarriage or low birth weight

Good afternoon,
We’re delighted to share the news that Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s brand-new Vaccination Centre in Cwmbran town centre opened Thursday, 24th April 2025. This location has been chosen due to its strong transport and access links, free car parking and central location.
This new facility is an important addition to our regional healthcare services, designed to make access to life-saving vaccinations more equitable for the people of Gwent. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, the new centre will be staffed by a team of experienced immunisation nurses and practitioners who are on hand to provide advice.
Residents wishing to check the availability of a specific vaccine are advised to call our Booking Centre in advance on 0300 303 1373. In addition to walk-in services, appointment-based clinics will also be available.
The new Vaccination Centre complements our existing GP and pharmacy-led services, and residents should honour any pre-booked appointments they may already have. However, eligible individuals can also attend the centre on a walk-in basis, offering increased flexibility and convenience for our communities.
We would greatly appreciate your support in raising awareness of this new service with your networks.
Centre Address: Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Vaccination Centre, 19 - 25 The Parade, Cwmbran NP44 1PB.

🌟 Volunteers wanted! 🌟

We are seeking compassionate, mature, friendly volunteers who can provide just a small amount of their time to make a huge difference in the lives of our vulnerable neighbours in Caerleon community.

Many older adults are living alone and would benefit immensely from some regular company. Just a cup of tea and a chat can have a positive impact on their well-being, or more stimulating activities such as jigsaw and puzzles can improve their cognition.

Being a volunteer is incredibly fulfilling – you get to meet some wonderful people with fascinating backgrounds, and knowing you are making a difference in their lives is highly rewarding.
