Do you like backbends? 🌈

Last week I revealed that I DO NOT practise backbends… often 😬

Backbends look cool on photos, there’s no denying that 🤷‍♀️ but unfortunately for people like myself, backbends like wheel pose aren’t ideal and actually flatten the thoracic spine and destabilise the area 😩 I don’t find it painful to get into these poses I just know they aren’t great for me personally, but that does not mean that they aren’t great for YOU ✨ so here are some benefits of back bends;

✨Backbends can strengthen your whole back, shoulders, chest and hips
✨Lengthens your spine, increase flexibility and improves mobility
✨Backbends can relieve tension, tightness and pain
✨If you’re also feeling fatigued these poses can be quite energising ⚡️

If in doubt seek instruction from a qualified yoga teacher and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY 🧘‍♀️

And to steal a famous Pilates quote remember:

Dydd Sul Hapus ✨ Happy Sunday everyone!

November is flying by and I just wanted to check in with you all and say that even though I am slow with my yoga admin lately I am on it today so check your emails this evening if you are planning on coming to the Galeri on the 26th 🧘‍♀️

All my weekends have been taken up this November with fun plans with friends and family, which is obvs amazing but I am super tired and need to get life admin back on track 😂🙈

What is mindfulness and how can we practise it? 🤔

Simply put mindfulness is being aware of the present moment. Aware of what’s going on inside our bodies and in the outside environment moment by moment 🕰

What are the benefits of being mindful?

🌈 we understand ourselves better, being fully present in the moment makes us appreciate the world we live in a little bit more
🌈 we become aware of thoughts and feelings that we’re experiencing in the moment. When we practice noticing thoughts and feeling we’re able to stand back, observe and realise we are not our thoughts
🌈 we can learn to let go of things that no longer serve us. We stop holding on to negative emotions/memories
🌈we are more able to notice signs of stress and anxiety and deal with them better

So how do you practice mindfulness?

🌲become aware of everyday sensations. On your walk to work, notice the environment around you, how the temperature of the air feels on your face and the sounds you can hear.
🎨 try something new, doing an activity mindfully, fully absorbed in what you’re doing can be a great way to notice any thoughts/feeling popping into your head
🧘‍♀️gentle activities such as walking or yoga can help a very busy mind quieten down and become mindful of what’s going on inside and outside the body ✨

Have you ever been in a yoga class and the teacher asks you at the beginning of the class to set an intention, and all you can think of is wtf is an intention? 🤭

I know it took me a while to truly grasp the concept of setting an intention…

An intention put simply is
How do you want to be as a person, live and feel in your life?🌻

How does it differ from an action/goal or to do list?

We need to think about what our intention is behind these actions we were going to set!

Here are some examples;

👄 stop gossiping (to do)-> I am compassionate (to be)
🌿 I will stop arguing -> I am peaceful
😯 I won’t be scared of xyz anymore -> I am courageous

These are just a couple of examples how to convert your ‘to do list’ which are attached to a goal, to an intention which is aligned with the way we want to be, live and feel ✨

Remember this the next time a negative thought pops into your head

✨Helo Pawb/Hi Everyone✨ I haven't done an intro post in ages and there are quite a few new faces so thought I'd pop in and say hi! I'm Cate, I'm the girl in and behind these posts.⁠

I started my yoga journey over 6 years ago and have worked on my mindfulness and breathing since I was 11! I qualified as a yoga teacher and Ayurvedic massage therapist over a year ago and have been teaching online and in person sessions ever since! In January 2021 I qualified as a breath coach and I am so passionate to bring my knowledge of the power of the breath to everyone I meet!

My favourite thing about teaching yoga is helping others improve their lives, physically but most importantly, mentally. I absolutely LOVE when I am able to help someone who suffers from insomnia get a good nights sleep or help that stressed out individual to feel calm before an interview. I love meeting new people and consider myself to be gregarious in nature, I’m hugely motivated by bringing people together and creating a community vibe

Here are some fun facts about me to help you get to know me a little better:⁠

🌅I live in Caernarfon, Gwynedd with my boyfriend

🧮I'm a full time part qualified accountant on my way to be fully chartered

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿I am bilingual and teach yoga in both Welsh and English with lots of traditional Sanskrit words peppered in

⁠🌊 I absolutely love being outdoors and trying any sports that involve balance. I am a slackliner, yogi (obvs), climber and also love going abroad to surf

🐻My favourite yoga brands are and .bare

🌴I love travelling and my travel bucket list includes; Costa Rica, Sri Lanka and Canada

🧘‍♀️ My favourite ways to switch off are: yoga/meditation & hikes in nature

🍃 I'm a big advocate for using yoga, sport and lifestyle changes to change your life and achieve your goals. 6 years ago, fresh from university it wasn’t quite the same story but we all have to start somewhere.

P.S. Cofiwch nad oes unrhyw ymchwil na thystiolaeth wyddonol sy'n dweud bod pobl efo hamstrings hirach yn hapusach neu'n iachach nag eraill 😉

🇬🇧 32% of non practitioners of yoga stated that the reason they did not practice yoga was because they weren’t flexible enough…

I was then shocked to see that many of you agreed with this when I asked what had stopped you in the past or present from practising 😱

Now, if you think like this STOP 🛑 yoga is a practice that is for everyone regardless of what that voice in your head might say!

If you have ever felt like you don’t fit the yoga mould, please know that it is an inclusive practice 🙏 when I teach a class it is in a non judgemental, non competitive inclusive environment and I know most other yoga teachers do exactly the same 💛

Put a 🙌 in the comments if you’re not going to let anything stop you from practising yoga 🧘‍♂️

🇬🇧Feeling a bit tired today after a gloomy week of non stop rain. I had the best evening last night teaching 14 amazing women (yoginis 🧘‍♀️) yoga at Galeri Caernarfon. This weekend is all about embracing the abundance autumn has to share with us and making the most of the blue sky and nature that’s on my doorstep here in snowdonia.

Meditation 🧘‍♀️ Myfyrdod 🧘‍♂️

The world is a very complicated place, our lives and lifestyle are the most complex that have ever existed. Our minds are busy with everything going on in our lives, it never gets a quiet moment. That’s where meditation comes in 🌎

Meditation is used to give use a bit more perspective on our thoughts. We learn to observe our thoughts through meditation. We do not dwell on the thoughts that we have and we do not judge the thoughts. We simply observe and and hopefully over time get better and understanding the thoughts 🧠

Benefits;

🌙 reduce stress/anxiety
💫 benefits emotional health
⭐️ improved attention span
⚡️ can help you be kinder

To try meditation tonight have a go at sitting or lying down in a comfortable position, close the eyes and focus on your breath.

Do this for a few rounds and sit and observe how you feel after. It takes a lot of practice to sit here like this so keep at it and it will get easier. If it makes you feel calmer set a timer for 3-5 mins while you mediate.

Freedom 🌞 Rhyddid 🌊

It’s a state of mind…

A practice of yoga can bring you freedom, truly it can ✨ if you feel free then you’re free, if you feel bound then you are creating your own prison.

Sometimes we feel trapped in our lives, as though we can’t be free unless we accomplish the next accolade, promotion, milestone, but it’s this thinking that creates our own prison, if only we realise we’re already free, we’d feel so much better about where were at in life, happy in the moment, grateful for what we already have 🙏

That’s what a consistent practise of yoga can help you realise and feel 🧘‍♀️
