Time to listen to my own words and reclaim my yoga practice! Knowing anxiety hates a moving target, I need to find my way to move daily again. Even if it is a few stretches, even if theyโ€™re in bed! .Sometimes writing or journalling your thought helps build intention ๐Ÿ™

I was very blessed having this beautiful setting in Scotland for a sunrise stretch, just perfect!

This posture stretches the hamstrings, spine, shoulders, lower back, and the sides of the abdomen. It provides a spinal twist that massages and stimulates your digestive organs, which helps to improve digestion. This pose also calms the mind, relieving anxiety, fatigue, and mild depression. It is also known to be therapeutic for headaches and insomnia.

Thank you Karen Lloyd for this beautiful gift and memory ๐Ÿฆ™๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ

Thank you to one of my clients for another incredibly thoughtful gift! ๐Ÿ™ It arrived today and I immediately shared - The Little Book of Alpaca Philosophy - โ€œWise, kind, observant and gentle, alpacas are the Dalai Llama of the animal kingdom. Their days consist of quiet contemplation, empathy and sweet-natured interactions with their herd - we have so much to learn from them.โ€

Donโ€™t use all your energy on fear and worry. Use your energy to believe, trust, create and to challenge yourself. This is where you will grow, heal and find positivity๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜˜

Hugs & cwtches! I know many of us are missing hugs with special people we are missing. But do you know that self-hugging can have some pretty big benefits, so itโ€™s a great way to show yourself some love.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธSelf-hugging can help relieve pain

If you have your arms crossed, your brain gets mixed up over the location of the pain signal. While your brain works this out, it has a reduced capacity to process other information, including the intensity of pain.

Pain relief associated with hugging may have another explanation, the hormone oxytocin, released with soothing touch, may play a role in relieving pain by decreasing feelings of anxiety and fear.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ Self-hugging can help you feel safe and secure

You play the most important role in your own wellness, and hugging yourself can help remind yourself of your power. Instead of waiting for someone else to offer support and make you feel better, you can take steps to comfort yourself.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธSelf-hugging improves your mood

Touch, even your own touch, helps promote relaxation. It lowers levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body which can help relieve some of your tension and stress.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ Self-hugging increases self-compassion

Like touch, self-compassion can lower cortisol levels and improve overall well-being. Practicing self-kindness helps make it easier to accept yourself, as you are, and it increases mindful acceptance and self-esteem and improves your general outlook on life.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธHow to do it

* Cross your arms around your body, bringing opposite hands on upper arms in a way that feels natural and comfortable.

*Squeeze yourself with just enough pressure to create the hug sensation youโ€™re looking for.

*Hold the hug for as long as you like.

*Try stroking your upper arms in a soothing, gentle way.

*Connect with your breath, deep breaths in and out through your nose, feeling your chest expand and contract.

*Perhaps think of the loved one youโ€™d like to be hugging, thinking how that would make you feel. Harness the gratitude of having them in your life, with the knowledge that the days weโ€™ll all be back hugging again are ahead.

This poem by Laura Ding-Edwards is brilliant. When I speak to clientsโ€™ with health challenges I often find that when theyโ€™ve taken time to rest theyโ€™ve spent that time with their inner voice saying theyโ€™re failing or defeated. If rest time is spent with the mind busy in self-criticism then you arenโ€™t fully reaping the rewards of the rest. So, as said in the poem, reframe this time as a quiet kind retreat, then you will really be resting!

Thanks to Keith for sharing his practice with me today and for being open and curious to find a good twist! Twisting poses in yoga are beneficial in creating space in the hips, spine and shoulders, improving muscular balance and coordination. Twists help calm the nervous system, infuse the body with energy and aide in decompressing the spinal column while relaxing the muscles around the spine.
