Yoga With Liz

Yoga With Liz I teach Hatha Yoga for health, to start, or progress, a yoga practice. 1:1, 2:1 lessons & workshops for physical & mental health.

I use a teaching method of organisation and activation, priming the body for kind movement and to find stillness for minds.

Thanks to Keith for sharing his practice with me today and for being open and curious to find a good twist! Twisting poses in yoga are beneficial in creating space in the hips, spine and shoulders, improving muscular balance and coordination. Twists help calm the nervous system, infuse the body with energy and aide in decompressing the spinal column while relaxing the muscles around the spine.

Thanks to our lovely Sally for sharing her practice with you. This wonderful asana stretches our hips and helps to relieve back pain - single leg forward bend, or figure 4 pose (Eka Pada Utkatasana).

The standing balancing posture resembles the shape of the number “4” when one leg crosses over the other. It combines strength, flexibility, and focus, engaging the glutes, hips, and core. Often used to stretch the hips and relieve lower back tension.

The Pink Full Moon 🌕 arrives today calling you back to balance, beauty, and emotional clarity. This moon shines a soft but powerful light on your relationships, especially the one you have with yourself. Any emotional fog will lift leading to a heightened sense of inner-knowing. What once felt confusing or uncertain will now begin to feel clear. Areas that felt unsteady will begin to realign. Happy pink moon energy 🙏

You’ve heard of hot yoga, what about extreme cold yoga 😂 Minus 114 in a cryotherapy chamber, pranayama breath control helped me feel comfortable with this extreme challenge so it felt easeful to stand in balance, despite the Arctic fans 🥶 A gentle warming in a red light therapy room was a wonderful finish to this treatment.

Yoga nidra is the practice to allow yourself to rest … on the gentle edge between waking and sleep. The body is completely relaxed, heavy, at ease. And yet, a quiet part of you remains aware… simply witnessing. Not thinking… not doing… just resting in stillness. Let yourself float in this space…find the place between the inhale and the exhale… between sound and silence… between dreaming and waking. There is nothing to do… nowhere to go… simply be here. As this darling meerkat shows it’s a practice to balance on the edge of sleep!

Practicing yoga outdoors, with the wind as your breath and nature as your mat, grounds the body and frees the spirit. Add the joyful leaps of spring lambs reminds us to move with lightness and play.🌿🐑🧘‍♀️✨🙏

Riverside yoga was so beautiful and obviously called for Fish pose! 🐟 Boost the body's energy and fight fatigue with Fish Pose, or Matsyasana in Sanskrit, while building confidence with a loving stretch in the shoulders. It is said that if you perform Matsyasana in water, you will be able to float like a fish, but I stayed on the bank on this occasion! 🐟

Although today I challenged myself to sit in the flow, these moments still reminded me that the concept of "going with the flow" is central to yoga and can be applied to navigating life's challenges, including stormy waters or difficult situations. Wishing you love, light and calm waters 🙏

Sitting with nature’s confetti falling around me was a highlight today, I hope that you too can connect with some Spring nature beauty this weekend. Our connection with nature – how deeply we observe, appreciate, and align with it – is essential for mental well-being. In yoga, Prakriti represents the natural world, and our harmony with it brings balance to body, mind, and spirit. Practices like mindfulness and Ahimsa (non-harm) guide us to live in respect with all living beings, while Svadhyaya (self-reflection) deepens our understanding of our place within the universe. Through this alignment with nature, we cultivate peace, clarity, and mental resilience.

Thread The Needle (Urdhva Mukha Pasasana) has many variations, from a gentle stretch, to a challenging balance. Each variation can provide a great release of tension in the body and, if practiced regularly, can help to ease shoulder, neck, or upper back discomfort. Thank you to Keith for kindly sharing this more advanced Thread The Needle Pose Variation Holding Leg Up, requiring strength and balance. We don’t progress to more challenging variations for our ego, but to deepen self-awareness and mindfulness. Stimulating the Third Eye Chakra and setting a path towards practicing Pratyahara (withdrawing of senses to stay balanced), Dharana (concentration), and Dhyana (meditation).
