Meet our new dentist, Alex, who has joined Crown Cottage Dental as a general dentist! 🦷
Since qualifying from Cardiff University in 2023, Alex has worked in a busy mixed NHS and private practice, gaining hands-on experience across all areas of general dentistry. Time spent at Morriston Hospital further developed Alex’s skills in oral surgery and managing complex cases involving facial and dental trauma — an experience that significantly expanded clinical abilities.
Alex particularly enjoys the variety that general dentistry offers — from restoring smiles to helping nervous patients feel at ease. Alex is passionate about delivering kind, high-quality, and patient-focused care.
Outside of dentistry, Alex leads a full and active life. Competing in half Ironman triathlons, cycling whenever possible, and playing water polo are just a few ways Alex stays challenged and engaged. When not training or working, you’ll often find Alex in the kitchen — cooking and baking are favourite ways to unwind.
Alex is really looking forward to getting to know patients at Crown Cottage Dental and becoming part of the local community. If you’re visiting the practice soon, be sure to say hello! 👋

New Smile incoming….
- Minimal composite bonding to enhance the patients natural smile ✨
Sculpted to perfection by Dr Andrew Martin 🦷⭐️
I qualified from the University of Birmingham in 1999, and since then, I’ve worked across NHS and private practices in Birmingham, London, and even spent time volunteering in Tanzania as a dentist and supporting an orphanage.
In 2008, I returned to South Wales, and since 2010 I’ve been working exclusively as an NHS dentist. My approach is holistic—I believe in treating the whole person, not just the teeth—and I always take time to get to know my patients.
I have a particular interest in preventative care and minimally invasive techniques, and I’m currently training to become a certified Bioclear practitioner. I’m also passionate about children’s oral health and advocating for women’s health, especially where it links to dentistry.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me off the beaten track—whether hiking mountains, backpacking to remote places, or enjoying a well-earned rooftop cocktail! I’m a big foodie and always on the hunt for new flavours to try (and recreate at home).
Looking forward to meeting many of you soon 🦷

LAST DAY to have your say.
Not many people are aware of the proposed changes the Welsh government plan to do with nhs dental care in wales. If you regularly attend checkups at your registered dental practice that will be a thing of the past.
❌Next year 2026 they plan to change routine 6 monthly check ups to every 2 years and you will be extremely lucky if you get to see the same dentist never mind go to the same practice. Dental practices do not have a shared data base you will be a new patient each time.
Having worked in the dental industry for years, I know the detrimental effects this will have on the industry.
❌Many practices will be forced to go completely private as the proposed plans are not viable. Preventative issues will be missed, no continuity, dental practices take great care in developing a rapport and understanding with each patient. Making notes regarding dental health and medical health. These cannot be shared between each practice.
❌The nhs places will significantly decrease. Again in 2026 you will not be registered with a dental practice and you will be made to travel to different practices if they are continuing to provide nhs care.
If you don’t like the sound of this then please fill out the respond form and show that you don’t agree. Link below 👇🏻 ⬇️
We are seeking your views on proposals to reform the NHS dental services (GDS) contract in Wales.
