After 4 1/2 years, I've made the tough decision to sail off into the (employed) sunset from Friday 12th July 2024. I opened when I was a newly qualified Soft Tissue Therapist and worked in clinic through my MSc to become a BASRAT Registered Sports Rehabilitator - I've come a long old way!

Thank you so much to everyone who's made an appointment, trusted me with their treatment, recommended me and shared or liked a post on my social media.

I've learned so much and met so many amazing, interesting people during the time I've been self employed and I am so grateful for all of you.

For now I'm off to an employed role but please keep in touch if you'd like to, either here or over on my personal Insta.

I'll still be working for Cardiff City Women, so hopefully I'll see you at one of our games.

Start next season at 100%

Don't start next season with injuries or niggles you're carrying from this one.

Pre-season training will be harder, chances of team selection will be lower, chances of re-injury or even sustaining a more severe injury will be statistically higher and at best you'll be in a worse state by Christmas than you are now, let alone at the end of next season.

Start next season in a better place than you are now. In a better place than you started last season.

Won the League, won the League Trophy, won the Welsh Cup - we've only bloody won the treble!!!

An absolute banger of a season. Started pre-season early, off to Champions League Qualifiers in Lithuania, back and straight into the League.

Lots of injuries. Lots of other challenges this year but look what those incredible women did! So, so proud of every one of them, every single day, but never more than now.

I'm so fortunate to work with such an amazing team of coaching and backroom staff and club management of course. It's been an extremely challenging season, but we got there. Best job in the world kids! Bring on 2024/25 - reckon I've got one more season left in me! (Been saying that at the end of every season since I started doing this, so who knows).

But now, it's time for a holiday.

New year, new you? Maybe you're starting the gym, have signed up to bootcamp or are an experienced exerciser with events to train for this year.

Massage can help you recover so that you're raring to go for your next session.

It can help with the dreaded muscle soreness for those of you who are starting something new.

Massage can be a great bit of self-care during your training plan, to help keep you motivated and in great shape.

AND

Regular appointments are a great way to keep on top of any niggles or concerns you might have during your training, before they become injuries.

BUT

I'm also qualified to assess, diagnose, treat and help you rehabilitate any injuries you might pick up along the way.

Applying ice to an injury has been removed from the latest injury management advice, which has changed over time from RICE to Peace & Love.

Basically, we now have some evidence that applying ice to an injury may lead to incomplete healing and even additional damage and re-injury in the long term (much like taking anti-inflammatories, which is why they're out too) and we always want to give a new injury its best chance to heal well.

That doesn't mean ice doesn't have a part to play in rehab. We can use it to alleviate pain in the longer term. Applying heat or cold to your body can stop your brain feeling discomfort because the signal for pain is slower than the signal for temperature (Pain Gate Theory), but it should not be used at the point of injury, or within 72 hours of an injury taking place.

If in doubt, get in touch - injury management and rehab is what I do best! I can help. And I've got some new stuff up my sleeve for 2024 that can help even more!

I don't just work with footballers and gym goers - Mr B is a tippity top windsurfer so I always pack for holidays and trips.

Here he's wearing some gorgeous thumb tape for his afternoon ride. Helps with grip and prevents soreness from holding on through all those fancy tricks in salt water. I shall, of course, be poised and ready, should he need anything on his return (I'm in the windsurf club bar with a beer and a book, but I'm ready).

I am a Level 5 Clinical Soft Tissue Therapist, based at Team Rees Gym in Caerphilly.

I specialise in Sports Massage and injury assessment and rehabilitation and am trained in taping, strapping, dry needling, first aid, cupping and sports trauma management.

I work with athletes of all disciplines and at all levels and provide pitchside support to RTB Rugby in Ebbw Vale.

I treat people, so if youโ€™re in pain or having problems moving well, I want to help you get back to strong, confident, pain-free movement.
