✨TheraPaws are delighted to have setup a referral pathway with the amazing Steve of Calon Counselling. At TheraPaws we are passionate about supporting emotional wellness through connection, compassion and therapeutic activities, along with our nature-based wellbeing and animal assisted interventions.

It is important to us to reiterate that TheraPaws is not intended to replace counselling, psychotherapy, crisis services or other clinical mental health support. We are a preventative non-clinical service designed to complement existing pathways and help reduce isolation, improve confidence, emotional wellbeing and community connection.

Our team have trauma-informed experience alongside experience working within adult mental health settings and we strongly recognise the importance of safe boundaries, collaborative practice and ensuring individuals access the right level of support for their needs.

Working alongside qualified counselling professionals like Steve allows us to provide a more holistic and person-centred pathway of support within our communities.

Together we hope to help create compassionate, accessible spaces where people feel heard, supported and connected. 💚🐾

Today’s office 🌿🐾

Six happy dogs, fresh air, birds singing in the background… and a reminder of how powerful nature and animals can be for our wellbeing.

Research shows that spending time outdoors can reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), lower blood pressure, and improve mood. Being around dogs has also been linked to increased oxytocin and serotonin levels — chemicals associated with happiness, calmness, and connection.

Even the sound of birdsong has been shown in studies to reduce anxiety and support mental wellbeing. One study published in Scientific Reports found that seeing or hearing birds was associated with lasting improvements in mental wellbeing.

Sometimes the best therapy is simple:
Walking.
Fresh air.
Nature.
Dogs.
Birdsong.

No phones. No pressure. Just being present in the moment 🐶💚

How it started:
2005 began my academic journey studying BSc (Hons) Forensic Science, graduating with a 2:1 honours in 2009 (first photo) Then came the PhD era 2009-2012, followed by PGCE secondary School Science 2013. Clearly, that wasn’t me done so in 2022 I started my BSc (Hons)in Medical Science, graduating with 1st class honours in 2025 (second photo). Now, you’d think that was me finally done but nope, currently half way thorough my MSc Psych. Question is WILL this be the last?? Who knows, but what a journey and absolute pleasure it has all been.
Remember to be kind to yourself. Celebrate the wins, be proud of all your achievements and be your biggest fan. 💚🐾

✨ Self love day - so after a super busy few weeks, spending 8-10 hours in the office daily working on grant acceptances, applications, networking etc today I blocked all work out and am concentrating on me.
Breakfast with my little lady and dropped to school, walk for the dogs, followed by a lovey pamper session and fresh nails 💅🏼. It’s important to take time for yourself, as hard as it can sometimes be with work, life, children etc, don’t forget that you need looking after too!
I’ve got an afternoon of more pampering sessions and then pick up my little lady and go out for tea. It doesn’t happen often, but these kind of days are super important for my own wellbeing.

💚 I find myself saying this a lot. Grief is not a linear process of different stages that you work through. It’s not the same for each person or even for each persons different loses. Grief manifests in so many ways - the loss of a loved one, the loss of your own identity, the loss of security, the loss of beliefs. Grief is a long journey about healing, finding yourself and learning how to adapt. It’s not about forgetting, or moving on, it’s about the new journey you are beginning. Be kind to yourself and grieve YOUR own way, for yourself 💚🐾

✨ Happy Wednesday my lovelies. Half way through the working week and it’s another beautiful day.
Sometimes life can become overwhelming and we can sometimes forget the simple things in life. Find joy in something each day, no matter how small. When things seem too much, focus on something that makes you smile 😊. Take time for yourself and remember, YOU GOT THIS 💚🐾

So proud of this one. Our beautiful Lily, who just 1 month ago gave us the fright of our lives, collapsing with a suspected heart attack, and it was touch and go for a moment, but I am so happy to report she has made a full recovery and is doing exceptionally well. Thank you all for your love and support in those scary few days; it really means a lot to us both. 💚🐾
