As well as planning an Upbeat party tomorrow, we have also had some downtime and provided a relaxing activity

We had the professional Harpist Gwenan Dickenson. You couldn't hear a pin drop whilst she played. It was a truly beautiful experience for the residents. At just 17, Gwenan started learning as a small child and now plays for weddings too.

Halloween Ready.

We have done dementia friendly displays and activities for our Halloween Party tomorrow.

The residents have decorated pumpkins with decoupage, glitter and flowers ( no unsafe carving), made cheesecloth ghosts and pottery pumpkins and witches hats.

It has been important for us to get the balance right as not everyone celebrates Halloween. We are keeping it traditionally more Britiish with traditional classics like adapted apple bobbing, Halloween Bingo and the mummy game with some party food and music.

Last week was Diwali, so we thought we would try a couple of new activities. Rangoli sand art and Henna Tattoos. The residents did their Henna tattooes on paper hand templates, to make the activity safer. All this whilst listening to Bhangra Music and watching some Bollywood. They also enjoyed the proper demonstration on a couple of our staff volunteers.

We embrace the cultural diversity within our staff and residents and it is so nice for our residents to learn more about our staff's different celebrations.

The last 2 weeks have had the residents enjoying many classic activities. Although we try many new things at Crick, the activities team also realise classic acrivities like knitting and card making also help the residents with reminiscing and reliving some precious family memories

A runfown of the activities: Knitting, Pottery, Home Duties, Exercise, Happiness Collages, Singalongs, Music therapy, Hatty Days, Autumn Mindfulness, Storytellers, Games, Bingo, Food Tasting, Birthday Card Making, Diwal Celebrations with Henna and Sand Art .

The residents helping with birthday card making, Halloween decoration making and home duties gives the residents a sense of achievement and purposefulness.

The residents also got outside fie some fresh air and watched Hoggin the Bridge and all the motorbikes driving by. Photos to follow.

The home now smells delicious ( Rosemary and Rose fragrance)

The residents chose from over 30 fragrances and many colours and glitters. Then we made candles and wax melts and we will use these for aromatherapy during pamper and hand massages soon.

Activities like these encourage and stimulate senses like touch, smell and visual.

They also build confidence and self esteem, learning new crafts and can promote a sense of achievement and creativity.

Our residents have had a very fluffy week.

We have had a big fluffy St Bernard and then some small (fluffy) squirrel scouts visit us.

Working with children and pets is an important part of wellbeing.

Pets bring the Cuddle factor and children bring absolute joy and a drop of sunshine to our residents lives. We will be working on many more intergenerational projects, as accredited research shows these projects benefits the children, parents and seniors. It is also hugely beneficial for dementia and other conditions.

Thankyou to all the parents who came to support the Squirrel's and John our lovely pet therapist for briging so much joy this week
