THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITIES

Bird themed week.

Bird Food Making, Bird Quizzes, Bird Bingo and a Bird Art Cract . Some weeks we will have a theme to help the residents mark the changing seasons. September is a good time to re- group and to think about what birds and nature may need. In the coming months birds will need abit of extra food and what better time to make this than the beginning of Autumn.

Next weeks Back to School week.

The monthly list will follow shortly, just tieing up a few contacts amd loose ends who are hopefully also coming in.

Just fooling around having fun!, or where we?

Today we had a juggling/circus filled day, to carry on the theme of the last Bank Holiday before back to school and work.

Today's session of Juggling, plate spinning, circus singalong and watching the circus on the big screen were all good fun. The activities were all brought together by the team to be really colourful and to also encourage balance, mobility, concentration, strengthening the hands by squishing bean bags and Juggling balls. The singalong encouraged memory recall of old favourites like Nelly the Elephant. The ribbons and scarves added a vibrant sensory element and encouraged movement.

Let's hope none of our residents now have ideas about joining the circus.

The last Summer Bank holiday called for some Summer shennanigans.

Today's theme was Bank Holiday Fun, lots of family type activities.

The residents tried their hands at balloon modelling today with abit of help from the activity department. We had giraffes, sausage dogs, swords, poodles and flying mice. Then with our balloon swords we had a few rounds of Balloon Fencing. With the residents having to fight the staff to score points.

We then had pass the chocolates, like pass the parcel. The residents had a choice of chocolates when the music stopped. To score a bonus chocolate, a chocolate trivia question needed answering first!.

Finally while the sun blazed, we had scorching hot zumba music and cocktail making. The residents enjoyed choosing from 20 flavours and choosing the umbrellas, pineapples and sparkles for their drinks. Some even became abit James Bond with the whole shaken not stirred, cocktail mixers.

The cocktails also ensured the residents topped up their fluids which is vital on days like today. The carers also enjoyed the cold ice 🧊❄️ cube game ( I think!!)

Next week.

We have cocktail making, zumba and fun games Monday.

Tuesday is cooking, movie and a talk about Monmouthshire with pictures and TV.

And the rest of the week we have cup cake decorating, Juggling fun ( yes the residents will be plate spinning, watch this space)

Home duties, it' s wash day. Folding laundry whilst reminiscing about the good old days and domestic tasks with a mini quiz about 1950s household brands and yesteryears mod cons.

Then we will try a new game, a version of Deal or No Deal ( this is a new game, we've made up from the programme) no cash prizes though I'm afraid!

Another good old sing along to finish the week and our nature club will make some wildflower seed bombs for Crick Garden.

Full schedule attached. Families always welcome to join in with all the fun.

The new Activities Team at Crick Care want residents to not just take part in activities but be fully involved in activities.

We now have mini activity meetings once a month with the residents and together we come up with a schedule to include their hobbies and interests.

We also have a new feedback form and the residents are asked ro give honest feedback about activities on a weekly basis. This is so we can develop activities they like more or make any improvements.

The activity department is here to fully support their hobbies, interests and lifestyle choices and to also encourage their valuable opinions into projects which they have gained through their life experiences.

We also discuss what events they would like to see; they wanted a Harvest Festival, cocktail making and I asked them for their opinion on cream teas and tea dances.

The Good news is that in the next 5 weeks we have now arranged cocktail making, a Harvest Festival and a Tea dance with cream tea and some Ballroom dancers.

However the planning doesn't stop there, the residents today, helped design our Harvest Poster and also decided where they want the food donations to go to.

We are bringing about change because we believe that activities should always be resident centred.
We also don't want to do activities 'FOR' our residents we want to enable and empower and do activities 'WITH' our residents, so they are fully involved from start to finish.

I think they did an excellent job of the Harvest Poster, TEAM WORK.

As promised, here are our photos for last week from 4th to 10th August.

Last week saw us playing Generation Game, with me pushing a trolley around as the conveyor belt, then re loading. Many impressions of Bruce Forsythe and Larry Grayson were done (badly) but that's also part of the fun. Of course there was a cuddly toy on the trolley and toaster. "Good game, good game!"

The aim of the game was to recall as many items as possible. This type of activity helps our residents with memory recall, socialisation, reminiscing classic TV shows and having fun.

We also had music therapy, sensory bingo, ball games, tangram puzzles, modelled cats out of clay and sensory activities. Finally to top last week off on Friday afternoon, we had the Caldicot & District Ukulele Group visit us (18 of them in total). We all had a fantastic time and sang along to some wonderful songs. A massive thankyou to all the musicians, it was a great afternoon.

The residents have had a very creative and busy Summer so far. Here are a few photos from July. We will pop a few more photos on here later this week.

During July the activities team and residents did origami butterflies, button flower collages, cup cake decorating, sensory activities, seated games, yoga and workouts, music therapy, lots of singalongs and pet therapy.

Looking at our resident's hobbies and interests, we saw many of them loved nature and gardening. With this in mind, we have also launched a nature club once a fortnight. The residents made insect hotels with leaves, twigs and organic matter to attract the right insects to Crick Garden. The next projects will be making our own bird food for the Winter and seed bombs.

We also had two great singers come in to entertain us in July.

It seems word has got out about the wonderful care we provide at Crick! 🏠

Yesterday our team discovered 3 babies without their Mum in our garden in a bad way. We provided Food, Water and a safe place to rest, while we sought help. 🦔

Today they have been safely delivered to a local vets who is going to ensure they get the care and attention they need! ❤️

Well done Team Crick! ⭐️
