Tamar Valley Osteopathy I am an Osteopath who loves to get people out of pain and moving better. What are Osteopaths? In the UK, Osteopathy is a health profession regulated by UK law.

I have a special interest in women's health & pre and post partum care
Mummy MOT practitioner. Osteopaths are highly trained healthcare professionals, who are experts in the musculoskeletal system (muscles, bones and associated tissues). Osteopaths are recognised as an allied health profession by NHS England. Only those who are registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) are allowed to practise as or call themselves an Osteopath. To become an Osteopath, one must undertake specialist degree-level training, either a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or integrated Masters (MOst), plus complete over 1000 hours of clinical placement (Direct patient contact time). This takes a minimum of 4 years to complete

To maintain registration with GOsC, which is renewed annually, Osteopaths must meet mandatory continuous professional development (CPD): keeping skills and knowledge up-to-date and maintaining high standards of professional development. What do Osteopaths do? Osteopaths believe in the 4 principles, these are:
The body is a unit; a person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit. The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated. Osteopaths will use a wide variety of gentle hands-on techniques that focus on releasing the tension within the soft tissues, improving mobility and optimising function, as well as providing useful health advice and exercise if required. All treatment is based upon an understanding of the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function. They will also work with, or refer you to, other healthcare professionals as needed to ensure you receive optimum care. Osteopaths take the time to understand each patient – your unique combination of symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. This helps to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your issue, (not just addressing the site of discomfort), and formulate a treatment plan with you that will achieve the best outcome.

It’s not about motivation.

It’s about how your brain is wired.
Your brain loves patterns.

Repeat a behaviour often enough and it shifts from conscious effort to automatic routine — that’s neuroplasticity in action.

Each habit follows the same loop:
Cue → Craving → Response → Reward.
Every time you repeat it and feel good, dopamine fires and strengthens the pathway.

This is a reminder that you truly can do hard things!

2 years ago I was 7 months postpartum, and feeling like I was drowning in a sea of postpartum anxiety, depression & rage. I constantly felt overwhelmed, burnt out and exhausted!

I started my fitness journey with just one fitness class a week, I soon realized how much better I felt, in my head, because of it.

2 years on, I'm the happiest, healthiest and fittest. I've found a real passion in running as well as strength training and it's now part of my weekly non negotiable (alongside proper hydration, nutrition, mobility, mindset work, boundary setting & nervous system regulation - because we always work the whole person 😜)

For little walkers up to 4 years + their grown-ups. A playful 45 minutes of giggles, wriggles, and gentle yoga to enjoy together.

🤰 Mon 11.45am – Pregnancy Yoga
A soft and grounded practice to connect with your body, your baby, and your inner strength. Gentle movement, breathwork and space to prepare for birth and beyond.

🌸 Thurs 2pm – Postnatal Yoga
Your body has done something extraordinary – now it’s time to rebuild. We’ll focus on core and pelvic floor strength, release tension, and restore connection to yourself. Babies are always welcome (crying, feeding, cuddling – all of it).

Too often, antenatal education focuses only on the medical side of birth - dilation, pain relief, and what to do if things don't go to plan.

Important, yes. But what's missing can make all the difference.

🛑 We're rarely are taught how hormones, breath, movement, and pelvic biomechanics work together.

🛑 We're rarely given the full menu of non pharmacological tools that ease pain and support physiology.

🛑 And we're rarely encouraged to build the village of support that research shows reduces anxiety, lowers the risk of postpartum depression, and even improves labour outcomes.

But here's the truth;
It doesn't have to be this way. When we widen the conversation, we change birth AND recovery. We create calmer, more confident experiences, and we help mothers feel empowered in their bodies and supported in their journey.

That’s why recovery and preparation aren’t just about one muscle, one exercise, or “pushing through.”

When I work with mums-to-be and new mums, I always consider these 5 key areas:

During pregnancy, your body naturally shifts to make space for baby — and after birth, it adapts again. Looking at alignment and movement helps ease pain and prepare your body for what’s ahead.

Your diaphragm, ribs, and pelvic floor work as a team. Breathwork restores balance, reduces strain, and supports both bump and postpartum core recovery.

You asked for an antenatal group and a mums group.... So here ya go 💁‍♀️

The New Mums Club is a monthly session open to anyone who's pregnant or has a baby under 6 months - it doesn't have to be your first baby, as each pregnancy & birth is a unique journey!

Each session will involve social time to chat and meet other mums at a similar stage to you, along with opportunities to chat to guest experts each month.
