✨ A beautiful birthday transformation! ✨

One of our lovely patients came to us feeling a little nervous but excited to treat herself to a Smile Transformation for her 60th birthday. 🎉

We started with a two-week course of prescribed teeth whitening to brighten her natural smile. Then, over three visits, we carefully completed upper and lower anterior composite bonding to rebuild worn, sensitive areas and reshape her front teeth.

To protect her new smile, we also made custom upper and lower retainers.

Our patient left feeling confident, fabulous and birthday ready! 🥳

Tooth decay doesn't start with a hole... 🫨

Did you know that tooth decay often starts long before you ever see or feel a thing?

Here's the truth 👇
Decay begins when bacteria in your mouth produces acid. That acid starts to slowly dissolve the minerals in your tooth - this is called demineralisation.

Damage begins below the surface of the enamel, where you cannot see it, but we can detect it early at your regular examination appointments.

The good news? 🙌
With Curodont™ Repair, we can prevent any further damage and reverse early decay - no drilling required! 🎉
At your next examination ask us about Curodont™ Repair.

Day 29 of 30: Loose Teeth or Ill-Fitting Dentures 🎗️

Mouth Cancer Awareness Month is nearing its end, but the importance of recognizing the signs continues. Today’s focus is on loose teeth or dentures that no longer fit properly. These symptoms may seem like minor dental issues but can also be warning signs of underlying problems, including mouth cancer.

Why It Happens:
Cancer can affect the bone and soft tissues that support your teeth, causing them to loosen or changing the shape of your mouth. Ill-fitting dentures, especially when they’ve fit well in the past, should never be ignored.

What You Should Do:
1️⃣ Monitor Changes: If your teeth feel loose or your dentures no longer fit, don’t wait to act.
2️⃣ Visit Your Dentist: Regular check-ups can identify whether these changes are due to dental issues or something more serious.
3️⃣ Stay Proactive: Early detection is key. Let your dentist know about any changes in your bite or denture fit, especially if accompanied by other symptoms like swelling or pain.

At Archway Dental Surgery, we’re here to help you stay informed and proactive about your oral health. Book an appointment for a check-up or screening today—your health is worth it!

Day 28 of 30: A Lump or Sore Inside the Lip or on the Roof of the Mouth 🎗️

As we continue raising awareness during Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s symptom is a lump or sore inside the lip or on the roof of the mouth. While some lumps or sores may be harmless, anything that lasts longer than two weeks or becomes painful needs professional attention.

How Archway Dental Can Help:

At Archway Dental Surgery, we take your oral health seriously. Our comprehensive new patient exams include:
✔️ Oral cancer screenings to detect any abnormalities early.
✔️ Close examination of the soft tissues in your mouth, including the lips and roof of the mouth.
✔️ Education about potential warning signs and when to seek further care.

If we notice anything unusual, our team will guide you through the next steps, including referrals to specialists if necessary. Early detection is key, and we’re here to ensure you get the care and support you need.

💙 Don’t wait for symptoms to worsen—book your appointment today. Together, we can work towards prevention and early diagnosis to keep your oral health in top shape.

Day 27 of 30: Discolouration of the Mouth Tissue 🎗️

As we near the end of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s symptom spotlight is on discolouration of the mouth tissue. Healthy mouth tissue is typically pink, so patches that appear white, red, or even darkened can signal an underlying issue. While some discolouration might be harmless, persistent changes can sometimes indicate precancerous conditions or mouth cancer.

What to Look For:
✔️ White patches (leukoplakia): Often caused by irritation, but persistent or spreading patches need attention.
✔️ Red patches (erythroplakia): These may indicate abnormal tissue changes and require prompt evaluation.
✔️ Dark or blackened areas: These could be signs of melanosis or other conditions that need further investigation.

What Should You Do?
1️⃣ Inspect your mouth regularly: Use good lighting and a mirror to check the insides of your cheeks, gums, tongue, and roof of the mouth.
2️⃣ Note any persistent changes: If discolouration lasts more than two weeks or worsens, book an appointment with a healthcare provider.
3️⃣ Keep up with dental check-ups: Your dentist can identify and monitor unusual changes early, increasing the chances of effective treatment if needed.

Spotting the signs of discolouration early can make a significant difference. Be proactive and encourage others to do the same by sharing this post. Together, we can raise awareness and save lives. 💙

Day 26 of 30: Ear Pain (Without Hearing Loss) 🎗️

As we continue through Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s focus is on ear pain without hearing loss. While earaches are often linked to infections or sinus issues, persistent ear pain—especially without hearing changes—can sometimes be a warning sign of mouth or throat cancer.

This type of pain can occur when tumors or abnormal growths affect the nerves that connect the mouth, throat, and ear. It might feel like a dull ache or sharp discomfort that doesn’t improve over time.

What to Do If You Experience Ear Pain:
✔️ Monitor it: If the pain lasts more than two weeks or doesn’t respond to typical remedies, it’s worth investigating.
✔️ Look for accompanying symptoms: Check for issues like difficulty swallowing, a sore throat, or lumps in the neck.
✔️ See a professional: Persistent, unexplained ear pain should be evaluated by a dentist or doctor, who can assess if further investigation is needed.

Don’t overlook persistent ear pain as just another ache—it could be an important early clue. Awareness and early action are crucial for catching mouth and throat cancers in their early stages.

Help us spread the word by sharing this post. Together, we can encourage others to recognize the signs and seek help when it matters most. 💙

Day 25 of 30: Know the Signs of Cancer 💙

As Mouth Cancer Awareness Month continues, today we’re focusing on the importance of recognising the signs of cancer in general. Cancer often starts quietly, with symptoms that may seem minor or unrelated. That’s why it’s crucial to stay informed and proactive about your health.

Common Signs of Cancer to Watch For:
✔️ Unexplained lumps or swelling.
✔️ Persistent pain or discomfort.
✔️ Sores that don’t heal.
✔️ Changes in your voice or difficulty swallowing.
✔️ Unexplained weight loss or fatigue.

Cancer can happen to anyone, and recognising these signs early can make all the difference. Regular self-checks and professional health exams are key to catching potential issues early when treatment is most effective.

What You Can Do:
1️⃣ Check your body regularly: Pay attention to any changes.
2️⃣ Keep up with screenings: Routine exams, including oral cancer screenings, can catch issues before they progress.
3️⃣ Don’t hesitate to seek advice: If you notice something unusual, consult a healthcare professional—it’s better to be safe.

Awareness saves lives. Let’s work together to spread the message this Mouth Cancer Awareness Month and beyond. Share this post to help others learn the importance of recognizing cancer’s warning signs. 💙

Day 24 of 30: Persistent Bad Breath 🦷

For Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s symptom is persistent bad breath (halitosis). While occasional bad breath can result from food, poor oral hygiene, or dehydration, chronic bad breath that doesn’t improve with brushing or mouthwash could signal an underlying issue, including mouth cancer.

Why It Happens:
Bad breath in cases of mouth cancer may result from:
✔️ Tissue changes in the mouth or throat.
✔️ Persistent sores or ulcers that harbor bacteria.
✔️ Difficulty swallowing, which can lead to food particles lingering in the mouth.

What Should You Do?
1️⃣ Maintain good oral hygiene: Brush twice a day, floss, and clean your tongue regularly.
2️⃣ Check for accompanying symptoms: Look for sores, swelling, lumps, or pain.
3️⃣ Visit a dental professional: If bad breath persists despite good hygiene, it’s time to get it checked.

Persistent bad breath can be embarrassing, but it’s also an opportunity to catch serious issues early. Don’t let it go unnoticed—early action could save a life.

Help spread awareness by sharing this post, and let’s work together to support early detection during Mouth Cancer Awareness Month. 💙

Day 23 of 30: Swelling or Sores on the Gums 🦷

As we continue raising awareness for Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s focus is on swelling or sores on the gums. While minor gum irritation can happen due to brushing too hard or eating sharp foods, persistent swelling or sores that don’t heal within two weeks may be an early warning sign of something more serious, like mouth cancer.

What to Look For:
✔️ Swelling that doesn’t go away or feels firm to the touch.
✔️ Sores or ulcers on the gums that bleed easily or don’t heal.
✔️ Tenderness or pain when chewing or brushing near the affected area.

What You Should Do:
1️⃣ Check your gums regularly for changes during your oral hygiene routine.
2️⃣ Don’t ignore symptoms that persist—seek advice from a dental or healthcare professional.
3️⃣ Stay proactive by booking regular dental check-ups, where early signs can often be detected.

Awareness saves lives. By knowing what to watch for and acting early, you can protect your oral health and overall wellbeing.

Day 21 of 30: Fatigue 🦷

Today’s Mouth Cancer Awareness Month focus is persistent fatigue. While feeling tired occasionally is normal, ongoing fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest can sometimes be a sign that your body is fighting something more serious, including mouth cancer.

How can you check for early signs of mouth cancer at home? Follow these steps for a quick self-check:

1️⃣ Check your lips and inside your mouth: Look for sores, lumps, or discoloration that hasn’t healed.
2️⃣ Feel around your neck and jaw: Use your fingers to check for any unusual lumps or swelling.
3️⃣ Inspect your tongue and gums: Use a mirror to look for changes in texture, patches (red or white), or pain.
4️⃣ Monitor how you feel: Notice if persistent fatigue is paired with other symptoms like difficulty swallowing, pain, or unusual swelling.

If you spot anything unusual or have symptoms lasting more than two weeks, it’s time to consult a healthcare professional. Regular self-checks combined with professional screenings can help catch signs early.

Take a few minutes to check today—it could make all the difference. Stay proactive and share this post to encourage others to do their self-checks this month. Together, we can raise awareness and save lives. 💙

Day 20 of 30: Unexplained Weight Loss 🦷

As part of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s symptom is unexplained weight loss. If you’ve noticed a sudden drop in weight without changes to your diet or activity levels, it’s important to pay attention, especially if it’s accompanied by other symptoms like mouth pain, difficulty swallowing, or lumps.

What should you do if you’re experiencing this or any other unusual symptoms?
✔️ Don’t ignore it – If symptoms persist for more than two weeks, consult a healthcare professional.
✔️ Book a dental check-up – Regular dental visits can help spot abnormalities early.
✔️ Keep track of changes – Monitor your symptoms and note anything unusual to discuss with your doctor or dentist.
✔️ Act early – The sooner you address unusual changes, the better your chances for successful treatment.

Day 19 of 30: Facial Swelling or Distortion 🦷

As we continue to raise awareness for Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s symptom is facial swelling or distortion. This can present as a visible or subtle swelling on one side of the face, uneven contours, or a sensation of fullness in the cheeks or jaw. While occasional swelling can result from dental issues or infections, persistent or unexplained swelling should be taken seriously.

Facial swelling caused by mouth cancer may not be painful in its early stages, but it can indicate underlying tissue changes that need attention.

Did you know?

Mouth cancer can develop anywhere in the mouth, but when it spreads, it often affects surrounding tissues like the jaw or cheeks, causing noticeable changes.
Over 25% of mouth cancer cases occur in people who do not smoke or drink, showing that anyone can be at risk.
Regular dental check-ups can detect early signs of abnormalities, often before they become more serious.
If you’ve noticed unusual swelling or facial changes that don’t resolve after a couple of weeks, reach out to a healthcare professional. Awareness and action are powerful tools in early detection.

Share this post and help us spread awareness. Together, we can save lives by recognizing the signs early! 💙

18/11/2024

Day 18 of 30: Altered Taste Sensation 🦷

Today’s Mouth Cancer Awareness Month symptom is altered taste sensation. A sudden or persistent change in the way food and drinks taste—whether it’s a metallic flavor, reduced sensitivity, or a complete loss of taste—can sometimes signal underlying health issues, including mouth cancer.

While changes in taste can also be caused by medications, infections, or lifestyle factors like smoking, long-lasting or unexplained alterations are worth paying attention to, especially if combined with other symptoms like pain, sores, or swelling.

Did you know?

Mouth cancer is more common than you might think, with over 8,000 new cases each year in the UK alone.
Poor diet, especially one low in fruits and vegetables, is linked to an increased risk of developing mouth cancer.
Only 50% of people survive mouth cancer for 5 years or more, but early detection can drastically improve these odds.
If you’ve noticed a persistent change in your taste that isn’t improving, consider speaking with a healthcare professional. Early detection saves lives—don’t hesitate to act!

Share this post to help others recognize the signs and stay informed. Together, we can make a difference this Mouth Cancer Awareness Month. 💙

17/11/2024

Day 17 of 30: Swollen Lymph Nodes in the Neck 🦷

For Mouth Cancer Awareness Month, today’s symptom is swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Your lymph nodes act as part of your immune system, helping to fight infections. While it’s normal for them to swell temporarily due to common illnesses like colds, persistent or unexplained swelling can sometimes be an early sign of mouth cancer.

Swollen lymph nodes caused by mouth cancer may feel firm, tender, or even painless, and they may not shrink back to normal over time. If you notice unusual changes like this, don’t ignore them—it’s always better to get checked.

Did you know?

Nearly half of all mouth cancer cases are linked to late detection, making awareness of symptoms like swollen lymph nodes vital.

HPV (human papillomavirus) is now a leading cause of mouth and throat cancers, especially in younger individuals, making regular self-checks and screenings important for all ages.

Over 300,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed globally each year, highlighting the importance of recognizing early signs.
Help spread awareness this month by sharing this post. Together, we can help others catch symptoms early and make a difference. 💙

Day 16 of 30: Pain When Swallowing 🦷

Today’s Mouth Cancer Awareness Month focus is pain when swallowing, a symptom that’s often dismissed but could signal a serious issue if it persists. This pain might feel like a sharp or burning sensation in your throat, or even as if food is “stuck” when you swallow. If it doesn’t improve after a few weeks, it’s worth investigating further.

Did you know?

Mouth cancer has seen a 34% increase in cases over the past decade in the UK, making awareness more important than ever.
Over 2,700 deaths from mouth cancer occur in the UK annually, but early detection can drastically reduce this number.
Only 1 in 4 people can name any early signs of mouth cancer—sharing knowledge is key to saving lives.
Pain when swallowing might seem like a minor issue, but combined with other symptoms, it can be an important warning sign. Stay proactive about your health, and help spread awareness by sharing this post. Together, we can make a difference! 💙

Today’s Mouth Cancer Awareness Month symptom is a lump or sore inside the lip or on the roof of the mouth. While small sores from biting or irritation are common and typically heal quickly, a persistent lump or sore that doesn’t heal after 2-3 weeks could be an early sign of mouth cancer.

Pay close attention to any areas that feel rough, raised, or tender, especially if the sore is paired with unexplained pain, bleeding, or discoloration. These subtle signs are often overlooked but are important to address as soon as possible.

Be proactive: Regularly check the inside of your mouth, lips, and roof of your mouth for unusual changes. If you notice something that doesn’t feel right, don’t wait—early detection can save lives.

Spread awareness this Mouth Cancer Awareness Month by sharing this post. Together, we can help more people recognize the signs early! 💙
