Battling On

Battling On Supporting the Armed Forces Community since 2012.

The courage and devotion of our forces are recognised, without a doubt, however, it has also been recognised that some service personnel find it difficult to settle back into civilian life after leaving the forces. Battling On was established to support members of the British Armed Forces who have retired from the services and are struggling to readjust to civilian life.

A note from Sarah:

This week, as I hope all of you are informed and up-to-date, is my final Thursday at Landrake! Of course there will be tears from myself, but there may also be some cheers from you fantastic individuals to see me off and ensure that I do leave!

All joking aside, from my start at Battling On in August 2018, I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside and supporting some fantastic individuals and their families.

To all the veteran individuals, serving individuals and their families that I have met over the years and have been fortunate enough to provide 1:1 mentoring and advocacy support, I wanted to say from the bottom of my heart, a huge thank you for embracing a non-veteran. I hope that I have provided some support in some tough times and that this support has proved beneficial.
I of course, will miss you all, we have had some good giggles over the past few years. It is always good to have some light with the shade. Thanks for the individual messages/emails that I have already received, it means a lot.

To all the professional organisations, as highlighted previously, I will be sending out a generic email with my personal details. So, if you know of any employment roles that you feel may suit, then please if you're able to, email me via my personal email.

As always, this Thursday's session (12th March) is at:
Sir Geffery Memorial Hall, Fore Street, Landrake, PL12 5DZ, 1pm - 4pm.
If you have any mobility/health conditions, then please do park directly outside the hall. Alternatively, there is parking available on Fore Street itself.
As always, this session is very much veteran-led so please do turn up if you're able to, engage and support each other where you can.
Both Hilary and I will be present, and Hilary will continue to be present moving forward in a supporting capacity.

Please note that from next week, the weekly email will be from Battling On's fabulous staff member Emily, so please look out for her email regarding Landrake sessions and any other updates.

This Thursday, 5th of March, Sarah and Hilary will be at Landrake. This will once again be a generic session, but as always, it is veteran-led, so please do turn up, engage and help out and support each other where you can.

Hilary and Sarah will very much hope to see many of you there this week, so that we can all have a good ol' natter along with a hot cuppa, and possibly a sweet-treat.

The details are: Geffery Memorial Hall, Fore Street, Landrake, PL12 5DZ, 1pm - 4pm.

As always, please park directly outside the hall if you have any mobility/other health barriers. Alternatively, then there is parking on Fore Street itself.

Looking forward to catching up with you then.

On a personal note, Sarah would like to say thank you for all the messages/emails that she has already received regarding that Sarah is leaving the organisation. However, of course, in the words of the legendary band, Queen...'the show must go on' as they say!

This week there are two sessions which are the following:

Thursday 19th February:

Torpoint Library and Community Hub, Fore Street, PL11 2AG: This morning session 10am - Midday, will be facilitated by Hilary. Hilary will be at Torpoint to provide a drop-in space, so please feel free to pop in and say 'hello.' There are refreshments available within the library.

Geffery Memorial Hall, Fore Street, Landrake, PL12 5DZ: This afternoon session, 1pm - 4pm will be facilitated by Sarah this week, so no Hilary.

The Landrake session is very much veteran-led, so please engage, support each other and get involved.

We're incredibly sad to hear of the passing of one our veterans, Bill Brown. We all share many happy memories of his visits to Battling On, including his blunt comebacks, his contagious laugh and his many antics.

We will remember his whittling skills while making the scallop-shell poppies. We will remember him crossing the finishing line on the Dartmoor 30-miler. We will remember his telling us to watch our health and get a haircut. We will remember his book-signing session.

We will all remember him. Thank you for all the laughs, Bill.
