Sometimes finding the right menstrual cup can take a bit of trial and error… but when you find one that works, it can completely change how your period feels. 💜

The Merula Menstrual Cup is one we often recommend to people looking for something a little different. It has a really unique shape, with a soft body and firmer rim, which helps it sit securely and work with your body rather than against it.

One of the things people love most is the higher capacity, making it a great option if you have a heavier flow or find yourself needing to empty other cups more often. Some sizes can hold up to around 50ml, so you can go longer between changes.

It’s made from 100% medical-grade silicone, reusable for years, and designed to be worn comfortably for up to around 8 hours at a time.

The ladder-style stem can also be trimmed to suit your body, which makes a big difference when you’re trying to get the right fit.

If you’ve struggled with cups in the past or need something with a bit more capacity, this can be a really good one to explore. And as always, if you’re not sure what might suit you best, we’re here to help 💛

“Do you know what’s normal for your period… and what isn’t?”

Post:
Some period changes are completely normal, but certain symptoms shouldn’t be ignored. Bloating, unusual fatigue, irregular bleeding, or persistent lower abdominal pain can sometimes signal something more serious.

We worked with The Robin Cancer Trust to create a clear guide to help you recognise early warning signs of ovarian cancer. Tracking your cycle and knowing your body can make a huge difference.

💛 If anything feels unusual for you, don’t wait to ask your GP.

Sometimes the products that become bestsellers do so for a reason… 💗

The Saalt Menstrual Disc is our most popular reusable period product at The Period Lady, and once people try it, we often hear the same thing: “Why didn’t I try this sooner?”

It’s soft, flexible, and sits comfortably higher in the body, holding up to 30–50 ml (around 3–6 tampons’ worth) depending on the size, so you can go longer between changes.

✨ Up to 12 hours of protection
✨ Made from 100% medical-grade silicone
✨ Reusable for up to 10 years
✨ No suction, so it’s often a great option if cups haven’t worked for you

For many people it’s a real period upgrade: fewer changes, less waste, and a product that works with your body rather than against it.

If you’ve been curious about menstrual discs, this one is a lovely place to start. And if you’re unsure whether a disc is right for you, we’re always here to help with friendly advice 💛

Behind every confident woman is usually another woman who helped along the way. 💜

A friend who shared what period product worked for her.
A sister who answered a late-night question.
A mentor who offered reassurance when trying something new felt overwhelming.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is “Give to Gain.” When women share knowledge, support each other, and lift each other up, everyone benefits.

At The Period Lady, we see this every day. Through our advice, guidance, and friendly support, we help women navigate period products, from reusable cups and discs to period underwear. One question answered, one tip shared, one bit of reassurance can make trying something new feel possible.

Reusable period products reflect the same idea. We give a little time learning something new, and in return we gain comfort, confidence, less waste, and a community that’s always ready to help.

Today we celebrate the women who make life a little lighter, the friends sharing their experiences, the mentors guiding others, and all the women supporting each other every single day.

Tag a woman who’s helped you on your period journey and let her know how much it meant 💛

Pads. Tampons. Applicators.

Now imagine them washed up on your local beach.

That’s exactly what the programme Dirty Business exposes, showing the reality of where so many disposable menstrual products end up.

It’s estimated that billions of period products are used in the UK every year, and most contain plastic. When flushed or mismanaged as waste, they can make their way into rivers and out to sea. Beach cleans regularly find tampon applicators and pieces of pads among the debris.

It’s not something we’re taught when we’re handed our first pack. We’re just told to wrap it up and put it in the bin.

Watching Dirty Business is uncomfortable at times, but it’s also eye-opening. It connects the dots between everyday bathroom habits and the bigger environmental picture.

This isn’t about blame. Disposable products have been the norm for generations.

But it is a reminder that there are other options now.

Reusable period products such as cups, discs, washable pads, and period underwear can last for years. One cup can replace thousands of tampons. One set of period underwear can replace years of disposables.

Small swaps make a huge long-term difference.

If you’ve seen the programme, we’d love to know your thoughts. And if you haven’t, it’s definitely one to add to your list.

✨ Brand Highlight: Eco Femme ✨

Eco Femme were the very first washable cloth pads I ever tried and honestly, they set the bar high!

Their premium range of reusable cloth pads and pantyliners are sold worldwide, and I’ve always loved the soft organic flannel cotton top layer. It feels so comfy against the skin, and the organic cotton flannel core is surprisingly absorbent. Plus, the tab fastening actually fits properly on most styles of underwear not too tight, not too loose.

One of the things that makes Eco Femme extra special is the impact behind the product. Their pads are stitched by members of women’s self-help groups, and each maker is paid per piece to support their livelihood. All products are stitched to export quality, meaning consistent quality and durability you can rely on. 🙌

If you're looking for reusable period care that’s gentle on your body and mindful of people and planet, Eco Femme is a brilliant choice. 🌍💛

🩸 Know Your Normal 🩸

Your menstrual cycle is more than “just a period.”
It’s a monthly report on your overall health.

Knowing your normal means paying attention to things like:
✨ Cycle length
✨ Flow (light, medium, heavy)
✨ Pain levels
✨ Mood and energy changes

What’s normal for someone else may not be normal for you.
When you know your baseline, you can spot changes early and advocate for your body with confidence.

Your cycle deserves attention, not silence.
Know your normal. Trust your body. 💖
