Our Story
Pilates: The kind of Pilates I teach can be very different from standard Pilates, which was originally designed for dancers. It was created by the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) as a form of rehabilitation following injury by two Physiotherapists in Australia. I’m trained in both Matwork and Pre/Post-Natal Pilates. The aim is to re-balance the body, building from the inside out, with special attention to any aches/niggles or outright pain that you may have, allowing you to exercise and improve your body in a safe environment. We start with very small movements, building body awareness (how do you know you're doing it right if you don't know what your body's doing?) and core strength. We slowly add other muscles in into more complex functional (to recreate the everyday demands on the body) movements. The best bit is - everything can be adapted to either make an exercise easier or harder or to bias for particular muscle groups to focus your practice on your needs. I run classes in small groups (6-14 people) so that everyone gets the feedback and attention they need to practice safely and effectively. Classes are run in Chertsey, Guildford and Woking (Knaphill). 1-1 / 1-2 or 1-3 individual sessions or mini blocks can be arranged at a either your home or work. Sports Massage / Physiotherapy: As well as a post graduate qualification in Sports Massage, I have experience working with both rugby and football teams and continue to work with a local rugby team.
My normal week has a mixture of musculoskeletal (eg. back/neck/ankle etc. pain) and Women’s Health (Pre/Post-natal, pelvic pain, continence, post-operative rehabilitation) Physiotherapy. I’ve completed post-graduate training via POGP (Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy) and Ruth Jones in continence, obstetrics and pelvic pain. I can provide sports massage / Physiotherapy at either your own home or at New Life Baptist Church in Guildford (GU2 9LX). I can provide post-natal checks (normally at 8 weeks post-natal or later) to help guide you on return to exercise and support you as your baby grows.
