Tips to deal with stress and burnout

1. Split up big tasks
If a task seems overwhelming and difficult to start, try breaking it down into easier chunks, and give yourself credit for completing them.

2. Allow yourself some positivity
Take time to think about the good things in your life. Each day, consider what went well and try to list 3 things you're thankful for.

3. Challenge your thoughts
The way we think affects the way we feel. Watch our video to learn how to challenge unhelpful thoughts.

4. Be more active
Being active can help you to burn off nervous energy. It will not make your stress disappear, but it can make it less intense.

5. Talk to someone
Trusted friends, family and colleagues, or contacting a helpline, can help us when we are struggling. Watch our video for more ideas.

6. Plan ahead
Planning out any upcoming stressful days or events – a to-do list, the journey you need to do, things you need to take – can really help.

Rethink Your Resolutions
Typical New Year’s resolutions set you up for failure. If you want to better yourself in the New Year, follow these tips for success:
Start small. Break your goal into tinier steps over the course of the year. If weight loss is your goal, it doesn’t have to be drastic. Try to eat more veggies during your first month and gradually cut back on sweets throughout the next,
Be kind to yourself. If you didn’t achieve last year’s resolution or stray from the path this time around, let it go. We often contrive these stories (‘I’m never going to quit smoking!’) that only add to our distress, With practice, we can notice this self-critic, let go of that negativity and pick our goals back up without the guilt or shame.

Christmas is usually characterised as a time for celebration – music, bright lights, giving presents, seeing loved ones and enjoying food and drink. Sadly, all of this extravagance is far from the reality.

These are amongst some of the most common pressures we can feel stressed about over Christmas…Just know you are not alone

1. Expectations to socialise (even within our allowed households) and spend more money
2. The emphasis on loneliness at this perceived time of togetherness
