New research has confirmed that the HPV vaccination prevents cervical cancer.

Two new Cochrane reviews show strong and consistent evidence that HPV vaccines are effective in preventing cervical cancer and pre-cancerous changes, especially when given to young people before they are exposed to the virus.

Girls vaccinated before the age of 16 were found to be 80% less likely to develop cervical cancer. The reviews also confirm that HPV vaccines are only likely to cause minor, transient side effects such as a sore arm. The reviews were supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

In the NHS app, you can see messages from your health care providers to make sure you get a notification when you have received a new message in your inbox.

Your notification settings need to be turned on in your phone.

To do this, go to your account and select Settings.

Then select Manage Notifications.

Select go to Device Settings.

Select Allow notifications.

Once you've enabled notifications on your device, you need to reopen the NHS app.

Doing this confirms that you have registered to receive notifications.
