In 1 Samuel 24:1-2, we read about King Saul’s relentless pursuit of David, whom he perceived as a threat to his throne. The passage states, “Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to look for David and his men in front of the Rocks of the Wild Goats” (1 Samuel 24:2). What’s striking about this story is that Saul’s expensive pursuit of David was not driven by a desire to protect the nation, but rather to satisfy his own personal vendetta, using the nation’s resources (army).
