Ever told yourself, “I’ll look after myself once everything else is done”?

If you’re a parent, that moment rarely comes.🤱🏻

Today is Parent Mental Health Day, a gentle reminder that your wellbeing matters just as much as the people you care for.

Parenting is rewarding, yes, but it can also be exhausting, overwhelming, and emotionally demanding.

Feeling stretched, touched-out, or unsure doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human.

Looking after your mental health isn’t selfish. It’s protective.

When parents feel supported and regulated...

It ripples out into calmer homes, stronger relationships, and more resilient children.💙

If you fancy a supportive start to the day, I explore wellbeing, everyday psychology, and real-life coping strategies...

On the Friday Morning Show on Cambridge Radio, every week from 9:30-12:00pm.

It’s a space to pause, reflect, relax, and feel a little less alone.

Today, give yourself permission to matter too!

Tune in this Friday or share this with a parent who might need it.

Cyberbullying fuels anxiety in children and teens, often in ways we don’t see. 👦🏻👧🏻

New research from Florida Atlantic University suggests cyberbullying should be classed as an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE).

It’s not just cruel posts. Being left out of group chats, whispered rumours, or repeated comments…

Can leave kids feeling constantly on edge.

Nearly 90% of teens report some form of cyberbullying.

The more it happens, the higher the anxiety and trauma symptoms.

That quiet, persistent worry: trouble sleeping, scanning for threats, loss of focus, can easily be missed.

When parents understand how cyberbullying links to anxiety...

We can respond with empathy, not minimisation and help children feel safe again.

That’s exactly what my Calm Horizons Corporate Workshop supports.

Helping parents and organisations recognise child anxiety early and respond calmly effectively, and with care.

If you support children or young people, let’s start that conversation.

Did you know adolescence doesn’t actually end in your teens?

New research shows it can stretch into your 30s and honestly, that explains a lot.

A University of Cambridge study highlights 5 key stages of brain development:

🧠 Childhood (0-9)
rapid learning and emotional foundations form

🧠 Adolescence (9-32)
big emotional swings as the brain rewires

🧠 Adulthood (32-66)
personality and intelligence settle; changes are gradual

🧠 Early Ageing (66-83)
processing slows; dementia risks rise

🧠 Late Ageing (83+)
cognitive changes vary, integration reduces

This helps explain why so many people in their 20s and early 30s feel “in between”...

Emotionally intense, or unsure of themselves. It’s not failure, it’s biology.

Understanding this reduces shame, builds self‑compassion, and reminds us growth isn’t linear. Change doesn’t stop.

You can check out my blog post for a deeper look at this.

Your Thoughts Aren’t Facts.

Honestly, our brains can be so dramatic. One bad moment and suddenly the mind is like...

“Everything is terrible,” “I’m failing,” “They probably hate me.”

But here’s the truth:

- A thought is just a thought. Not evidence.
- Not a prediction. Not a reflection of your worth.

The moment you pause and say: “Hang on… this is just a thought...”

Your whole system softens. You get a little breathing space.

You get to choose how to respond, instead of being dragged along by whatever your mind throws at you.

Give it a try the next time your brain gets loud, you might be surprised by how grounding it feels.🍃

And if you want more quick, gentle tools like this, come join my free community.

We’re all about practical ways to feel calmer and more in control, one tiny step at a time.

Ever said “yes” at work when every part of you wanted to say “no”?

You’re not alone and it’s more common than most teams realise.

Many of us are so conditioned to keep the peace, be agreeable, or avoid conflict.

So we say yes automatically… even when it clashes with our workload, wellbeing, or values.

In fast-paced workplaces, here’s what often happens:

➡️ We comply without noticing.
We’re trained to be helpful, so we override our own boundaries.

➡️ We freeze in the moment.
Without the right tools or language, silence feels safer than speaking up.

➡️ We prioritise harmony over honesty.
Obedience becomes the default, while respectful defiance feels rare.

The gap between what we intend to do and what we actually do fuels burnout, resentment, and team conflict.

So how do you say no and mean it?

By recognising your boundaries, preparing respectful language, and responding with calm authority without over‑explaining or apologising.

Practising this consistently makes your “no” clear, confident, and respected.

Exactly what my Strategic Psychological Coaching helps teams achieve.

It’s mid-January… feeling that New Year pressure creeping in?

That little voice saying you should’ve transformed your whole life by now?

It happens every year. We’re expected to change our habits, mindset, body, and personality almost overnight.

So no wonder stress and self-doubt start building.

Myth: “Success means perfection.”

Absolutely not. Perfection is a fast track to burnout.

It keeps you chasing something unattainable and feeling “not enough” when you inevitably fall short.

Here’s the real truth:

👉 Progress beats perfection always.
Tiny, imperfect steps count.

👉 Imperfections make you human, not behind.
They’re where growth, resilience, and real change begin.

If you’re craving calmer, kinder ways to navigate the year...

My Safe Place Visualisation, can help you ground yourself when pressure peaks.

Trying to plan a wellbeing workshop and wondering...

“Okay… but how soon can we actually lock in a date?”

It’s one of the most common questions I get!

Here’s how it works for my Calm Horizons Corporate Workshop:

📆 If we’re coming to your venue: We can usually secure a date within 6-8 weeks of your booking, depending on how flexible your team can be.

📍 If you prefer to hold it at the Cambridge Therapy Centre: There might be a slightly longer wait, simply because our conference space is in high demand.

And of course, if you like planning well ahead, you’re welcome to book future dates too, many organisations do!

On days you barely drink water, does stress seem to hit harder? 💧

It might not just be your workload, it could be dehydration.

According to new LJMU research, not drinking enough water can amplify your body’s stress response.

In the study, under-hydrated participants had over 50% higher cortisol levels during stressful situations...

Even though they didn’t necessarily feel thirstier.

Here’s what they found:

✅ Low hydration = higher cortisol, your stress hormone.

✅ Greater vulnerability to stress-related conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and depression.

✅ Drinking below recommended intake increases physiological strain, even if you feel “fine”.

So if you know a busy or emotionally demanding day is coming...

A deadline, a presentation, a tough conversation, keeping a water bottle close isn’t just practical.

It’s a protective habit for your long-term mental and physical health.

Do you notice your stress levels rise on days you forget to hydrate?

Drop your thoughts below, I’d love to hear them!

Told to 'just forgive and forget' but still struggling with a whirlwind of emotions?

You’re not alone and that reaction is completely valid.

Many people come to therapy feeling pressured to forgive before they’re ready.

They’ve been told it’s the only path to healing...

But forced forgiveness often creates more shame than peace.

So here’s how I see it:

- Forgiveness doesn’t mean approval
it simply means you no longer want this pain to take up space in your life.

- It’s not about them at all
it’s about your wellbeing, your pace, and your peace.

In therapy, I rarely push the word “forgive.”

Instead, we focus on letting go gently and on your terms.

If you’re curious where to start, try this:

Write down one thing you’re still carrying that feels heavy. 📝

Ask yourself, “Is holding onto this helping me or hurting me?”

Awareness alone can be a powerful first step!

You can check out my blog post for a deeper look at this.
