WORLD CANCER DAY

An international day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

Cancer is a common condition. It is estimated that around 1-in-2 of us will develop some form of cancer in our lifetime.

Everyone knows what is 'normal' for them and it is important to be aware of any changes in your body. Early detection means treatment is more likely to be successful and increase your chance of survival.

As well as being aware of the signs and symptoms there are also some steps you can take to reduce your risk of cancer including:

*stop smoking
*keep alcohol consumption within safe limits
*exercise regularly and aim to keep your weight within the recommended BMI range
*avoid over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation. *use sunscreen, seek shade, wear sunglasses and a hat in the sun and particularly when the UV index is 3 or more
*avoid using sunbeds
*check your skin regularly for any changes
*attend screening when invited
