East Barnwell Health Centre Garden Information

Earth & Mind and East Barnwell Health Centre are partnering to bring you a new gardening for wellbeing project!

It is very important to us that our new project is based on the wants and needs of the patients and staff at East Barnwell Health Centre. These sessions will allow us to co-create the garden, and gather your feedback to shape the upcoming garden project. Thank you for joining us!

Date: Thursday 2nd or 16th of April @ 10am-12pm.

Meeting place: Outside the entrance on the grass at East Barnwell Health Centre (the session will take place in the garden).

These sessions are for patients who are registered at East Barnwell Health Centre and staff.

If you have any questions please contact Emily: contact@earthandmind.co.uk

Here is a link to the sign-up form for the co-creation sessions: https://forms.gle/JV8YzLceZj6viD9r5

Measles is a very infectious viral illness that is spread by coughs and sneezes. If you are not protected and have even passing contact with someone who has measles, the chances are that you will be infected too. If you catch measles you will probably feel very
poorly and be off school or work for around 10 days. There is no treatment or cure for measles.

Symptoms of measles include
fever, sore red eyes, and rash. It can be a very serious infection for
some people. Complications are more likely to occur in certain groups including people with weakened immune systems, babies under one year old and pregnant women.

Complications can include chest and ear infections, fits, diarrhoea,
encephalitis (infection of the brain) and brain damage. Those who
develop complications may need to be admitted to hospital for treatment.

Did you know that East Barnwell health Centre is a `Safe Surgery`?

`Safe Surgeries` recognise the barriers to healthcare access that exist, particularly for migrants in vulnerable circumstances, and believe that small changes in practice can make a difference. They are willing to lead by example and work to ensure that nobody in their community is excluded.

A Safe Surgery commits to taking steps to tackle the barriers faced by many migrants in accessing healthcare. At a minimum, this means declaring the practice a ‘Safe Surgery’ for everyone and ensuring that lack of ID or proof of address, immigration status or language are not barriers to patient registration and healthcare.

Measles
Vigilance is key as Measles usually starts with cold-like symptoms, then a rash develops on the face and behind the ears. Occasionally small spots also develop in the mouth.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/

The BEST way to protect you and your family is to get vaccinated. Measles is spreading because parents are making the decision not to vaccinate their children.
Once you are 16 you can make your own decisions about vaccines so please contact us if you are overdue any vaccines

Find out about measles, a highly infectious viral illness that can be very unpleasant and sometimes lead to serious complications.

East Barnwell Health Centre achieves Gold in the Pride in Practice Awards.

The Pride in Practice LGBT Foundation’s award-winning programme works with primary care services to ensure LGBTQ+ people receive inclusive, high-quality healthcare. Endorsed by the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, it helps practices create welcoming environments and tackle health inequalities. LGBTQ+ people often face barriers to healthcare, leading to poorer outcomes. Pride in Practice helps break down these barriers, ensuring everyone feels respected and understood when accessing care. Part of the programme includes embedding posters and action plans, staff training, and patient engagement.

• Practices accredited by Pride in Practice have undergone training to understand LGBTQ+ health needs and provide affirming care.
• A Safe Environment. Look for inclusive signage and policies that show the practice is committed to equality.
• Better Communication from staff trained to use inclusive language and avoid assumptions about gender, sexuality, or relationships.
• An overall better experience. Patients at Pride in Practice-accredited surgeries are more likely to feel their needs are met and less likely to experience discrimination

East Barnwell Health Centre undertook a period of staff study, provided specific information on the website and social media, held a STI drop in clinic during HIV awareness week and provided enhanced inclusive screening and there are plans for a LGBTQ+ drop in session in March.

Each practice is assessed on the requirement of the programme and following the assessment is then awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Insulin pens
* Always dispose of the needle immediately after each injection using a sharps bin.
* Never store your pen with the needle attached. Keep your sharps bin in a safe place so it’s not a risk to other people and is out of the sight and reach of children.
* Sharps bins must not be disposed of in household waste.
* Discuss with your healthcare professional the procedure for disposing of sharps bins in your area.

For those that use the Novo Nordisk pens, you can request a box via this link:

Order a PenCycle return box. This site is intended for people in the UK who are prescribed pre-filled Novo Nordisk pens for diabetes, weight management, or Growth Hormone treatment.

Pride in Practice

East Barnwell Health Centre is supported by LGBT Foundation’s Pride in Practice service to improve the experiences of LGBTQ+ people accessing primary care services.

We are open to all and are dedicated to protecting diversity and equality.

We are here to listen to suggestions and feedback from our LGBTQ+ patients on their experiences with us.
If you have something you want to share or feel would help us in this process, please let us know.

It is important to us if you feel you feel able to share your sexual orientation, gender identity and trans status with us so that we may be able to offer the most appropriate support to you within our practice and refer you on to any relevant services if you may need them.

Please be assured that you can speak to any member of the team about this in complete confidence.
