A mindful hike: my client Nigel suffers from cerebral palsy in one leg and has frequent falls. After a year of training we approached 90 minutes of walking up the Lickey Hills.

To make it safe we focused on a few concepts:

• Optimum gait: walking heel-to-toe to walk safely and to prevent a forward fall.

• Optimum posture: keeping an aligned posture for greater stability on his feet.

• Mindfulness: walking slowly, being aware of each step and pausing to reset any loss of control and balance.

• Breathing: breathing from the belly to improve oxygen exchange, increase mental stability and reduce stress.

I spent 5 months working on a PICU ward. An intensive mental health unit. Many of the patients had violent backgrounds. The practices of zen helped me to maintain calmness when being threatened and to offer it to the patients. The practices of counting the breath, mindful movement and zen belly breathing really helped them to be less reactive and more peaceful. Two of the patients credited the practices with helping them leave the facility. I saw less incidents and more patients move onto a better life.

On this course we’ll be looking at a number of Zen meditation techniques and practices designed to explore what it means to develop a sense of physical and energetic grounding, and to have an understanding of yourself and the nature of reality.

Starting Mon 12th Feb, 19:30-21:00 (UK time)

Suitable for complete beginners to those wanting to broaden their meditation experience.

The techniques we’ll cover include:
🧘 Mindfulness of the breath
🧘 Fusho - your unborn mind
🧘 Meditating with a koan (a paradoxical statement or question used to point at the true nature of reality)
🧘 Healing with soft ointment
🧘 Cultivating and energising your hara (belly) and legs
🧘 Energy transformation
