✨Staff Spotlight: Ruth Fox – Good Life Facilitator at CPSL Mind

"Unfortunately, my mental health journey began when I was just 14. As someone who had always thrived both academically and athletically, experiencing mental illness came as a huge shock. It opened my eyes to the struggles so many face behind closed doors.

After years under mental health services and multiple hospital admissions, I eventually decided to open up and share my story. I play football – a sport that historically can feel like a macho environment where emotions are often hidden – so I was passionate about being a voice for female footballers and mental health.

I wrote my experiences into a book, 'Within the White Lines', which tells the story of how football ultimately saved my life. Since then, I’ve spoken in schools, on the news, and in sports clubs – always with the hope that sharing my story might help just one person feel less alone.

Now, I’m proud to be a Good Life Facilitator at CPSL Mind – a role I enjoy immensely. Most of my time is spent doing 1-to-1 visits, offering both practical and emotional support. We also run groups and workshops in the community - including our popular Good Mood Cafes, which offer a relaxed and welcoming space to connect over a coffee.

Working for CPSL Mind has been the biggest privilege. Being invited into people’s lives is something I will never take for granted. I aim to be the person I needed during my darkest times – and I’m so thankful that this incredible charity enables me to fulfil that purpose." 💙

📢 It's Local Mind Week on 4th-10th August! A week dedicated to recognising the work of the 100 local Mind charities across England and Wales 💙

Even though local Mind charities are all one big family and work alongside national Mind, CPSL Mind raises funds independently to help support the mental health of people in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire.

In recognition of Local Mind Week, the charity is encouraging everyone to find out more about and engage with posts on social media. CPSL Mind has published a new video interview to share about CPSL Mind’s history, work, and values. It will also be sharing impact stories from people who have benefited from its services and more information about how to access support.

The CPSL Mind team will be connecting with nature and local people at two wellbeing walks 🌳🐶🚶‍♀️ Everyone is invited to join us!

Charity football match in memory of Amraj Singh Hothi 💙

This Saturday, over 40 players will come together at Netherton F.C. - one of the first clubs Amraj ever played for - to take part in a charity football tournament organised by his close friend, Satinder Dhesi.

Santinder (pictured, left) is raising money in memory of Amraj (pictured, right, and in main photo), who sadly passed away in June this year. The two were teammates for over a decade and remained close friends. Amraj had a huge love for football, so this tournament felt like the perfect way to honour his memory.

In just under two weeks, friends, family, and the wider community have already raised more than £2,000 in support of CPSL Mind - an astonishing achievement, and one we’re incredibly grateful for. 🙏

Satinder says: “We chose CPSL Mind because we wanted to support men’s mental health in the local area – it felt like the perfect fit.”

There will be a huge mix of communities coming together to have fun, remember Amraj, and raise money for a really important cause. The hope is for this to become an annual event, continuing to bring people together and raise vital funds for mental health support. 💙

📍Netherton FC, Saturday 2nd August, Kick off 4:30pm

⚠️Warning this post mentions su***de

Suicidal thoughts are more common than you might think – one in five people in the UK will experience suicidal thoughts in their lifetime.

We know that statistically the su***de rate in the Fenland area is higher than anywhere else in Cambridgeshire. Between 2021/2023, there were 13.3 su***des per 100,000 in the Fenland area (ref: ONS) This is compared to an average of 10.4 su***des per 100,000 in the Cambridgeshire area overall (ref: ONS) Each statistic is a person in our communities - a brother, a sister, a son, a mother, a friend, an employee.

Support someone at risk to stay safe. 💙

Our expert training team at CPSL Mind run su***de prevention training across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire and have created dedicated training to support people in the Fenland area.
Due to funding, these online open courses are free to attend for individuals who work or volunteer for VCSE organisations with high risk groups, carers/ family/ supporters of individuals who are at increased risk of su***de and members of the public who wish to learn su***de prevention skills who live in Cambridgeshire or Peterborough.

This 3-hour workshop will equip you with the knowledge to spot warning signs, ask directly about su***de, support someone to stay safe and look after your own wellbeing.

📞If you need support now, there are people who can support you. Visit the 'Get Help Now' page on the CPSL Mind website to access a list of helplines and support organisations: https://lnkd.in/eZZmivHN

Safety warning - Please consider your own emotional wellbeing before signing up for this course. If you have been bereaved by su***de, or affected by attempted su***de or suicidal thoughts, you may find the content difficult.

We are proud to have the opportunity to offer individuals thoughtful ‘comfort’ or ‘pamper’ kits as part of some of the support services we offer.

Each kit is filled with carefully chosen items – things like journals, sensory tools, mindfulness activities, soothing drinks, and self-care prompts – all designed to support emotional wellbeing and bring a little comfort during challenging times.

We know that even the smallest gesture can make a big difference. Whether it’s helping someone feel calmer, more grounded, or simply reminding them that someone cares – our kits are just one of the ways we aim to be there when it matters most.

What items help your wellbeing? What would you put in your own ‘comfort’ or ‘pamper’ kit?

If you’re a local business and would like to donate items for our kits we’d love to hear from you!
