Good Life Fund Plus in action 💙

Thanks to support from our Good Life Fund Plus, Melanie Ferreira is running trauma-informed communication skills workshops that help people build confidence, resilience, and stronger connections.

The programme consists of five workshops (two hours each), with each session focusing on practical communication strategies for both workplace and social settings. It also explores communication in the UK through an intercultural lens, creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for forced migrants. These workshops are skills-based and educational, with clear boundaries to ensure participant safety and wellbeing.

Melanie shares why this work — and mental health — matters so much to her:
“Everyone, at some point in their lives, struggles with the daily pressures of life. To be strong and resilient in times of hardship, we often need the support of others. My trauma-informed communication skills programme supports people who have faced enormous challenges and are working towards new life goals. Thanks to CPSL Mind’s funding, I can help make a real difference — just as others have supported me through tough times.”

By helping people navigate communication in an additional language, often in unfamiliar situations, these workshops can have a positive impact on daily life, confidence, and social connections in multilingual and multicultural settings.

Alongside delivering her own programme, Melanie is fully qualified and recently attended CPSL Mind training.
CPSL Mind’s experienced trainers work with individuals, organisations, and businesses to build mental health knowledge and practical skills. This training is designed and delivered to professional standards and complements community-led programmes such as Melanie’s.
For a full list of CPSL Mind training courses, visit: cpslmind.org.uk/training/

What participants are saying: “Thank you for being such a wonderful and supportive teacher! I’ve learned many helpful techniques and feel much more confident speaking English now. Your guidance really made a difference.”

Interested in taking part? Melanie plans to run two online programmes in the near future. To register your interest, email: wordwiseteach@gmail.com

Eligibility:
• Live in Cambridgeshire
• Seekers of sanctuary / displaced
• Minimum B1 / Entry Level 3 / IELTS 5
• Adults (18+)
• Motivated to improve employability and communication skills
• Able to attend all five workshops

Thank you, Melanie, for the incredible work you’re doing — and for showing how community support can change lives!

Team CPSL Mind connecting yesterday for 💙

We marked the day with a special screening of the very first episode of Side By Side, our new podcast created in partnership with the Citizen Hub. It was great to come together across our offices, watch the episode as a team, and create space for open, honest conversations about mental health.

Time To Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation — a reminder of the power of simply taking time to talk, listen, and check in with one another. Side By Side offers the opportunity to have these conversations at a local level, helping to challenge stigma and discrimination, and encouraging people to speak openly about their mental health and wellbeing.

🙂☕💙

Our Good Mood Cafes provide an opportunity to meet new people to share interests, skills and wellbeing tips in an informal space to help boost your mood. There is no need to book and you don't have to stay for the whole session.

It’s OK not to be OK, so you don’t have to be in a good mood to come along to a Good Mood Cafe – but we hope everyone will leave feeling better than when they arrived.

Danny’s Journey:

“When I first came to a Good Mood Cafe in St Ives four years ago, I was really struggling with depression and anxiety. I felt completely isolated.

Now, I attend the Yaxley group every Thursday – and even on days when I feel down, it gives me a reason to get up. It’s a place where I can talk and feel part of something.

I often show up in fun outfits, tell jokes, and try to spread some joy – and in return, I feel lighter too. It’s a two-way street where everyone benefits.

If you’re unsure, just pop in – it might be the best thing you do for yourself.”

Attending for the first time? Drop our friendly team an email and they can let you know what to expect. Email: goodlife@cpslmind.org.uk

Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. It’s a day for all of us to come together to talk, listen and change lives.

Thank you to Cambridge based artist Roxana De Rond for creating this wonderful illustration for us 💙

Ask someone how they are today, and ask again. Asking twice can make all the difference.

Here are some ideas to get started:

- Text a friend to ask how they’re doing
- Go for a walk and talk with a neighbour
- Visit a CPSL Mind Good Mood Cafe with a friend (get in touch for more info)
- Invite a colleague for a cup of tea and a chat
- Deliver a school assembly on mental health
- Host a lunch and learn session in your workplace
- Comment, link, and share our campaign clip on social media
- Sign up ro CPSL Mind's STOP Su***de training workshops, they are free. You could help to save a life. https://www.cpslmind.org.uk/courses/stop-suicide-workshop/

Reach out to our team via cpslmind.org.uk to find out more about our services. We're your local mind charity and we're here for you today and everyday 💙

05/02/2026

Today is day and CPSL Mind is launching a new podcast called ‘Side By Side’ in partnership with the Citizen Hub.

‘Not another podcast?’ I hear you say. Well, this one is about having conversations locally in our communities about mental health. We want you to be part of it.

It’s also important because it helps break the stigma and discrimination faced by so many people experiencing mental health challenges.

The first podcast episode released today covers the topic of Men’s Mental Health. This conversation is not only timely, but it's an unscripted and honest discussion about mental health. In this clip, Gary shares his own personal story and how he's helping others to find the strength to speak up and ask for help. The power of peer support. We think that's pretty magical.

We are encouraging people to start a conversation in your community.

From sharing this post on social media using to organising an activity in your workplace or simply checking in with a friend or family member. There are lots of ways to get involved this Time to Talk Day on the Mind website.

You can watch the first podcast episode via CPSL Mind’s YouTube Channel here: https://ow.ly/2qqJ50Y92sQ
