Professor Stefano Pluchino

Join the Cambridge Neurological Society for a fascinating talk by Professor Stefano Pluchino, Clinical Professor of Regenerative Neuroimmunology at the University of Cambridge.

Professor Pluchino is a leading figure in regenerative neuroimmunology, whose research focuses on next-generation molecular therapies for chronic neuroinflammatory conditions, including multiple sclerosis. His work has transformed our understanding of stem cell biology—shifting from simple cell replacement to recognising the critical role of intercellular signalling.

His team pioneers the use of advanced stem cell technologies, including extracellular vesicles and patient-specific 2D/3D models, to investigate disease mechanisms such as inflammation, cellular senescence, and epigenetic regulation. These innovative approaches are directly informing drug discovery and the development of targeted therapeutics.

Professor Pluchino has also led pioneering clinical trials of neural stem cells in progressive multiple sclerosis, contributing significantly to the translation of cutting-edge research into clinical applications.

This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into breakthrough advances in stem cell research and their potential to transform the treatment of neurological disease.

A brain haemorrhage is bleeding in or around the brain either as a result of ruptured aneurysm or following a significant blow to the head. It is also often called a haemorrhagic stroke or brain bleed.

The long-term effects of a brain haemorrhage depend on the type and location, but as with all brain injuries, every person's recovery is individual.

You can read more about the long-term effects of a brain haemorrhage in the effects of brain injury section on our website. https://buff.ly/2UU7JUx

When a family member, or someone close to you has a brain injury, it can put a great strain on relationships and day to day life.
We run a support group on Zoom for carers and family members of brain injury survivors, where they can meet others who are in a similar situation.
It helps to know that there are people out there who understand what you are going through.
You are not alone!
You get the chance to discuss personal experiences, challenges, feelings and emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
Our next group is detailed below. It would be lovely to see some new faces 🥰
