Alex Wood House Alex Wood is an exceptional care home in Cambridge with a superb reputation, offering person-centred residential/dementia care, and short-stay respite breaks.

The team pride themselves on the home's family feel and look forward to welcoming you soon! Alex Wood House is a residential care home for older people situated in Arbury on the north-eastern side of Cambridge, three miles from the City centre. It is a well designed, purpose-built home with attractive landscaped gardens. There are 36 single rooms, all with en-suite facilities to accommodate residents who are frail, elderly and may have a diagnosis of dementia. The facilities include a ground floor
dementia unit consisting of twelve rooms, with a specialist team of staff dedicated to caring for and supporting these residents. The dementia unit is fully equipped for those who have higher
support needs and benefits from a sensory room and a reminiscence room. The remaining 24 rooms are for older people who require care in a residential setting. In order to ensure peace of mind, all rooms are linked to a call system when staff assistance is
required. The home is fully wheelchair accessible. Bedrooms are close to shared living and dining rooms. In addition, all bathrooms are
equipped with adapted fittings for an improved quality of life. There is also a day centre for over 65’s where people from the local community can meet and share interests.

What a beautiful day we had yesterday celebrating all the wonderful mums. 💐

The afternoon was filled with music, laughter, and special moments shared over afternoon tea with family and friends. Our freshly arranged flowers looked stunning on the tables and really brightened the whole room. 🌸

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special. We hope all the mums felt truly celebrated and appreciated. 💖

⚽ A Fantastic Day Out at the Stadium! ⚽

Yesterday our residents had a wonderful day out at the Abbey Stadium watching Cambridge United Football Club in action. The atmosphere was amazing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed being part of the matchday experience.

A huge thank you to Cambridge United Football Club for kindly donating 10 tickets to our residents. Your generosity gave them the opportunity to enjoy a special day out and create some fantastic memories.

🌸 Mother’s Day Preparations at Alex Wood House🌸

Our residents have been getting into the spirit of Mother’s Day with a lovely afternoon of arts and crafts. Together, they created some beautiful handmade cards, each one filled with care and creativity.

Activities like these are a wonderful way to keep minds active, encourage conversation, and spark happy memories. While crafting, many of our residents shared their fondest memories of their mums—stories filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments from years gone by. 💐

It was a truly heartwarming time spent together, celebrating the special bonds between mothers and their families ❤️

This Sunday (8th March), one of our amazing admin team members, Jasiu, will be taking on the Cambridge Half Marathon! 🏃‍♀️💪

Jasiu is running to raise money for CAMSight, a charity that is very close to all of us at Alexwood House. CAMSight supports people who are blind or partially sighted across Cambridgeshire, helping them live more independently and stay connected with their communities. 💙

Training for a half marathon is no small task, and we are incredibly proud of Jasiu for taking on this challenge for such an important cause. 👏

If you’re able to support him, any donation—big or small—would mean so much and will go directly towards helping CAMSight continue their fantastic work.

Always a firm favourite weekly activity… 🎉

Eyes down for Bingo! 👀🔢

There’s nothing quite like the excitement around the table as the numbers are called, the concentration on every face, and of course the cheers of “BINGO!”

A wonderful way to bring everyone together, encourage social interaction, and keep those minds active – all while having lots of fun!

Two of our lovely residents enjoyed a wonderful day out shopping in Cambridge City Centre today 🛍️✨

There was plenty of browsing, a little retail therapy, and lots of smiles as they explored the shops and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. It’s always so special to get out and about, soaking up the sights and sounds of the city.

For one of our gentlemen, the highlight of the trip was returning to a much-loved daily routine — a visit to John Lewis Café for his favourite cappuccino ☕ It brought back happy memories and was lovely to see him enjoying a familiar comfort again.

We all finished the day together with lunch, sharing good food and even better company.

Days like these are so important — supporting independence, reminiscing about treasured routines, and creating new memories together 💛

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful Chinese New Year celebration today with a delicious traditional meal shared together around the table 🧧🥢

The dining room was beautifully decorated, creating a warm and festive atmosphere as everyone tucked into tasty dishes and sampled some new flavours. There was lots of conversation about past celebrations, traditions, and favourite foods, making the occasion even more special.

Sharing cultural celebrations together is such a lovely way to bring people together, spark memories, and try something different. A big thank you to everyone who helped prepare and serve the meal — it was a fantastic way to welcome the Lunar New Year! 🐉✨

🧧 Chinese New Year preparations are well underway here at the home! 🐉

Our residents have been busy getting creative, making colourful Chinese dragons to decorate our communal areas and bring lots of good luck and happiness for the year ahead. The room has been filled with laughter, bright reds and golds, and plenty of glitter along the way!

We’ve also been carefully filling traditional red envelopes with chocolate coins – a sweet treat symbolising good fortune and prosperity. 🍫✨

Activities like these are a wonderful way for our residents to learn about different cultures, spark conversations, encourage creativity, and enjoy meaningful time together. We can’t wait to celebrate in style! 🏮🎊

What a truly lovely afternoon we’ve had celebrating Valentine’s Day here at the home 💕

Our Valentine’s Afternoon Tea was filled with delicious treats, warm company and plenty of smiles. A huge thank you to the wonderful Molly, who came along to sing for us and gave our residents such a fantastic afternoon of music and joy. The room was full of toe-tapping, singing along and happy memories being made 🎶✨

We would also like to thank everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special. Your support and presence mean so much to our residents and team.
