If you are heading off for a summer holiday have a look at our handy checklist for leaving your cat with a pet sitter or cattery.
- If your cat is staying in a cattery make sure their vaccinations and parasite control are up to date.
- Make sure your cat's microchip details are up to date just in case they get lost while you are away.
- A plug in pheromone diffuser at home such as Feliway will help your cat feel calm while you are away and a pet sitter is visiting
- Let your vet know if you won’t be contactable by the pet sitter and that you are happy for visits and treatments in your absence.
- If your cat is on medication make sure to order enough to cover until you are back home.

****Diabetes Awareness Week 9th - 15th June****

Diabetes is a treatable disease in cats and if managed well cats can live very full and happy lives.

Diabetes is more common in middle-aged and older cats and is often seen more in male cats than females. The disease is also much more common in neutered cats and overweight cats.

The most common signs seen in diabetic cats are:

Passing urine more often (polyuria)

Drinking more (polydipsia)

Weight loss

Eating more (polyphagia)

If your cat has any of these symptoms it is best to get them checked by a vet to rule out any diseases such as diabetes mellitis. Treatment options for diabetes include medication by injection or, if suitable, liquid or tablets.

Moving House? Check out our Cat Checklist below:
1) Has your cat had a recent health check? Up to date with vaccines and flea and worming treatment.
2) Ensure your cat is wearing a collar or tag containing contact details during transport.
3)Verify your cat's microchip and pet insurance information is current and up to date.
4)Get your cat used to a cat carrier before the move and have it ready for transport.
5) Designate a quiet, comfortable room in your new home as a "safe space" for your cat, ensuring there is a elevated and/or hiding places in this room for your cat with access to a litter tray, food and water.
6) We recommend using Feliway- a synthetic version of the pheromones cats release when they feel calm and happy, before and after the move to help with the stress.
7)Maintain your cats normal routine, keeping their feeding and play times consistent.
