Looking to reduce your recovery time? Post-event sports massage helps relieve Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) by increasing circulation to flush out the buildup of toxins in your muscles after exercise, reducing swelling and easing tense muscles. It helps your body cool down properly and gives you time to recover and mentally relax again.

Standing Pilates exercise help you to build ‘functional’ strength … this means that your core control, balance and coordination gains are carried over into everyday activities like bending, lifting and reaching.

Standing movements are also more complex to coordinate, demanding more efficient full-body movement patterns without the support from the mat.

They’re also a great way to add some much needed strength and conditioning to your training programme if you’re an athlete.

When your spine moves well everything just feels easier!

Exercises to elongate, mobilise, align and decompress the spine are the cornerstone of a Clinical Pilates class.

Five reasons why you should be doing a spine twist every day

If your job involves sitting for long periods of time – using a computer or driving for example – then you are at risk of reduced mobility in your mid back, neck, and shoulders. Over time, this can cause stiffness, and this exercise is a really simple way to:

🟣 maintain flexibility in the mid back

🟣 reset your posture

🟣 encourage circulation through your tissues

🟣 decompress your spinal discs

🟣 reduce muscle strain in your neck and shoulders.

This is a great exercise for everyone and something that you can do while sitting at your desk! Please take care not to push right to the end of your range of movement if you have osteoporosis.

Why is Side-To-Side such a great exercise on the mat?

There are lots of benefits to this exercise – trunk strength, spinal and rib mobility, shoulder and hip mobility … it’s a really well-rounded movement that will help improve posture. Here are a few tips for getting it right:

* Sink your shoulder blades into the mat underneath you and keep them there
* Keep your knees and ankles together
* Try not to press the back of your head into the mat, instead lengthen through the back of the neck and keep it relaxed
* Imagine your pelvis is like the curved piece of wood a the bottom of a rocking chair – rock your pelvis from side to side on that imaginary arc and allow your legs to follow the movement.

You can make this exercise slightly easier by bringing your knees closer to your chest, or slightly harder by straightening your legs. It’s just a fantastic all-round exercise and a real crowd pleaser so we love to teach it in our classes!
